The combination of Bangladesh and Beautiful- it’s tough to believe, right? Bangladesh and traffic jam or Bangladesh and load shedding or Bangladesh and crowd sound like more appropriate combinations. Bangladesh used to be a lush green land crisscrossed with wide rivers; but over the years, to accommodate more and more people and in our mindless desire to increase the size of the concrete jungle, the natural greenery has been destroyed, the deep, wide rivers have now become narrow and shallow. There is hardly any park or water body in Dhaka city; there is hardly any free highway in Bangladesh for long drives- small stalls are scattered beside the highways. There is crowd and filth everywhere! But still, Bangladesh is beautiful- if you have the eyes for it. There are places in Bangladesh where nature awes you. ... read more

Everyone knows that Bangladesh is an overcrowded country and is losing greenery at an alarming rate to accommodate all these people in the cities. But still, as the overpopulation problem is more in cities, there still are some places where there are lush green fields and rivers and lakes -where we can run off to soothe our eyes from the fatigue of seeing traffic congestions and ears from hearing annoying noises that are parts and parcels of city life. I personally hate living in Dhaka city and love to take escapes close to nature. Sylhet is one such place- with rolling tea gardens and lakes and quiet roads that pass through the tea estates. Myself, my hubby and three of our friends had taken a weekend trip to Sreemongol (a part of greater Sylhet) to spend ... read more

It was a short but a much needed break from the monotonous routine of office and home. My husband Siam and I wanted to get out of the regular surrounding of friends and family and spend some lazy time together. I wanted to attend to no phone calls and no socializing for 5 days and wanted to spend the entire time with my husband alone- lazing, eating and shopping with a bit of sightseeing to refresh our minds. Malaysia was an ideal choice this time as the short travel time was an added benefit. We arrived in Kuala Lampur on 27th April morning. Though was already in an euphoric mode since 26th April evening after office hours, I was very tired by the time we got into the bus that would take us to Cameron Highlands. ... read more

Bhutan- is a place of scenic beauty indeed. This was my first thought the moment our small plane was preparing to land in the tiny Paro Airport runway. The view from the plane was amazing. Paro Airport is a very small airport in a valley. The runway of Paro Airport is critical- the planes have to twist and turn between hills to land safely. Only small Dragon Air planes are allowed to land in that airport. The airport itself is a small Bhutanese style building and is not at all crowded. The moment we got out of the plane, and stepped into the cloudy, slightly cold country, I had a feeling that I would love this place. We were greeted by our chauffer for next 7 days- Prem Jee- who took us to Thimpu first as ... read more

DAY 2: I woke up early and opened the balcony door. The snowcapped mountain was reflecting golden rays of sun; the weather was soothing with a slightly chilly breeze; the surrounding of the hotel was a nice blend of brick houses and rolling greenery; lone cars went pass the road at regular intervals but otherwise there was not much activity seen on road. Population density of that area was a minimum- which I appreciated most. After shower and dress up, we went down for the complementary buffet breakfast. Food was simple but fresh and nicely presented. There was orange juice, milk, tea, coffee, boiled eggs, a choice of cereal, and sausages. And of course – fresh bread, butter, jams and cheese as usual. We took leaflets and brochures from the hotel counter and decided our next ... read more

DAY 1: We spent first 3 days of our honeymoon in Rome and Venice- and I loved both cities a lot. But my subconscious (or rather should I say conscious?) mind was eagerly waiting for the day we’ll reach Switzerland- my dreamland for many years. This morning we started our journey from Mestre to Interlaken in Euro Star. The journey was very comfortable-but the credit does not go solely to Euro Star service. Siam (my hubby) and I were sitting opposite each other and stretched our legs up to rest them on the other person’s lap. I was giving him a foot massage and he was giving me one. After 3 days of walking, this felt like a romantic bliss… We had to change trains in Milan-it was a couple of hours halt there. We got ... read more

Since I read Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, I had been fascinated by Rome. It felt like mystery and secrets were hidden in every nook and corner of this ancient city. I was particularly drawn to the Vatican. Siam (my lovely hubby) knew this and was sweet enough to select Rome as the first stop over point for our honeymoon. We reached Rome in the morning flight. After sorting out the necessities of lodging and mobile sim card purchasing, we were all set to start exploring the city. I was so excited that I forgot to change the stilettos I was wearing – the agony will be a part of the story in next few lines. Right at the first bend of the road, was Italy’s first Gelato shop. The variety of ... read more

It was the 3rd day of our honeymoon. It was a hot day when we reached Mestre from Rome. Only 11 am and with the whole day in hand, Siam & I spent no time at all to catch the coach to Venice. Only 5 minutes went by, and I could just feel the change in air that was coming through the open windows. I opened my eyes and looked out-the barely crowded road we were on passed through the middle of the sea. Boats were anchored, some were being driven by Venetian men wearing typical hats, white sea gulls were flying above water, small waves were mirroring a spackling reflection of the very bright and clear sky above… it looked just like a panoramic picture out of the calendar. It was no more than a ... read more
