Micki Hedinger - Micki Hedinger

Micki Hedinger Ciao tutti!!

Siena and Florence

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence
This weekend was an experience! SMC traveled to Siena on two charter buses. We left from the hotel at 6:00AM. After hearing horror stories from last semester returnees about girls getting left behind and some having to chase the bus, I made sure I was down in the lobby promptly at 5:45AM...The caffè aren't even open to get a cappaccino!! ;) The bus ride was about 3 hours (a good little nap). When we got to Siena, we split up into three tour groups. First, we visited the Basilica of San Domenico. It is an old gothic style (art history!! yay) [View Full Entry]

Friday after lunch, the girls and I set out for a walk around Rome. We found the famous Key Hole and the Orange Garden (two must-see views of Rome). We also visited La Bocca della Verità and Circus Maximus. We ended our day by watching the sunset over Piazza del Popolo…a beautiful sight! Later Friday evening, Jess, Sam, Bridget, Molly, and I watched to the Lizzie McGuire movie. This inspired us to make travel arrangements for Tivoli. Tivoli (Villa D'Este) is where Lizzie and Paolo run through the fountains holding hands and skipping. Haha...I'm lame. But do watch it. My frie [View Full Entry]

Earlier this week, Molly’s parents, sister, and grandparents arrived to Rome. Saturday, we decided to join Molly and her family on a tour of Napoli and Pompeii. Bridget, Jess, Sam, Molly and her family, and I were down in the lobby at 6:00AM, waiting for the bus to come pick us up. We rode on a charter bus for three hours to Napoli. It was great getting out of the city of Rome to see the countryside of Italy. We reached Napoli and literally just drove through it. I wasn’t too impressed. Personally, I thought the city was dirty. We did [View Full Entry]

Sunrise, Sunrise

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Sam, Bridget, Jess, and I (along with about 10 others) woke up around 5:40AM today! We walked about 2 miles up a hill near the Vatican to watch the sunrise over Rome. (It was a good test for the good'ol femur of mine.) The sun was "scheduled" to rise at 7:15AM....and boy was it almost exactly on time! How do you predict that? It's beyond me, that's for sure! The dark, cold crawl out out of bed was worth it. It was beautiful! I could see basically all of Rome. Here are some pictures: [View Full Entry]

2nd Weekend of Tours

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Our second weekend in the eternal city consisted of more tours. We met Snuffy and Nicolas Cage to begin our adventure at 9:00AM on Friday. We explored Capitoline Hill and the Museum. My favorite part of the museum was taking a picture next to the big foot! Haha…No, but really… the museum can be traced back to the 1470s when Pope Sixtus IV donated a collection of important ancient bronzes to the people of Rome. Ever since then the collection has been growing. We saw many statues, paintings, jewels, pottery, etc. After the visit at Capitoline Hill Museum, we walked down [View Full Entry]

"It is the Saint Mary's Rome Program Policy to ALWAYS be on time...not 5 minutes late...Punctuality, Ladies, punctuality!!! ;) PP & MH On Friday, we toured the Roman Forum, Campo Marzio, and the Pantheon. The Roman Forum is ancient Rome's birthplace. It was the common ground between Rome's seven famous hills. Anything with any historical importance took place in this valley. La Prima Giorno di Clase!

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Today was the first day of classes. Talk about jumping right in... Recovering from jet-lag was not on the agenda for today. I was one of the lucky few to have class at 8:00AM...just my luck! ;) I started off my day with un cornetto chiocolato e un cappuccino (a chocolate croissant and a cappuccino) at a small bar called Pascucci's. Pascucci's is located right between L'Albergo Tiziano and our classroom building. Very convenient!! We typically get two meals a day at Pascucci's. We get weekly money tickets (the tickets remind me of Monopoly money) to be used at Pascucci's. The [View Full Entry]

ARRIVO A ROMA!!!

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Oh what a day! After 26 hours of travel, I have finally arrived to Rome. Mom, Dad, and I woke at the crack of dawn (aka: 5:45AM) to head towards Indianapolis airport. It was still dark outside and there was about 1/2 inch of snow on the ground. Good thing I decided to bring my big, WARM coat after a long debate with Mom (haha). My flight from Indianapolis to Chicago left at 10:40AM. My sister, Andrea, met us at the airport to say her good-byes. After two Northwest Airline delays and an emotional good-bye from my mother, I set [View Full Entry]
