After New Year we headed to the Blue Mountains to stay with Lynne and Steve and their two beautiful dogs, Rosco and Archie. The Blue Mountain are about 2 hours inland by train from Sydney and are really very beautiful. We were really looked after by Lynne and Steve and didn't want to leave when our three days were up. We got to see the mountains in mist and fog, go to the cinema and also took a wonderful walk down through the canyon and back out again with Steve, where Matt and Steve were able to stand under a waterfall. Thank You so much again for having us. Melbourne was next and by far (in kerry's opinion) the best place in Australia. We stayed with another of Matt's friends, Zack and his girlfriend Sarah who ... read more

We made the trip from Cairns to Brisbane (32 hours on the train!) to meet back up with Line and Catharina. All four of us went out for something nice to eat and we had loads of fun celebrating their Christmas on the 24th, watching them open small gifts from each other and their families. We had an epic game of 'Ring of Fire' and got a little merry with our goon (cheap boxed wine). Christmas Day started off very different, we woke up in a dorm with another 6 people, it was red hot outside and all we had a to open was a christmas card from Teresa :-). The hostel we were staying at had a free BBQ for the masses of travellers away from home, so we enjoyed a few hours with Line ... read more

After the incident with the beaver like looking kid on the train we arrived in red hot Townsville, It reminded us of America and some of the deserted streets that we had walked through while there. We walked into to town, shared an expensive sandwich and were picked up by our host Andy. Andy lived with his wife Nanny and their daughter Asha who had just turned 6. They were having a BBQ that night and at about 5pm Andy offered us our first bottle of beer, the bottles then didn't stop coming all night. The BBQ was beautiful and Andy and Nanny had a couple of friends over who were also really nice and friendly people, calling us pommys (Australian name for the English) whenever they could. While we ate and listened to Andy play ... read more

After quite an enjoyable flight over the national date line into the future we arrived in Sydney, now 9 hours ahead of back home instead of 8 hours behind! Our hopes were high, we were doing really well with our budget making the saving we needed to finish the trip, we had massive smiles on our faces....then we checked out the prices in OZ.......... No dollar menu in McDonalds here I'm afraid, Starbucks didn't take off in Australia, sorry, it's $3.50 for a small bottle of water!!!!!!! S@#T !!!!! So we had to rethink the budget a little and put the smiles back on our faces. We spent the first night in a Hostel in Sydney and wow, what a great hostel it was... that was sarcasm by the way. The one good thing about the ... read more

We stayed in San Diego just 12 miles from the mexican border for a few nights before heading to LA (plus we got an extra over nighter on the bus). Our host Jimmy and his girlfriend Kelly are great people to hang out with ! We visited our first English pub and thought it was funny when we walked in and there were two girls promoting Brown Ale, how ironic! We spent a full day walking along the golden sands of Califonia, went for mexican food, an all you can eat Indian Buffet (not in the same day) and had an awesome games night with a couple of Jimmy's friends Mi Linda and Craig. Craig also got us on a tour for free around San Diego which explained a little about the history. We stayed with ... read more

After Las Vegas we spend a night staying in Salt Lake City with Matt our host. We paid the $10 each and bought into a poker game around at one of Matt's friends homes but of course with our really bad luck in gambling we got kicked out in the first round, still had fun though. We spent a few hours in downtown Salt Lake City which is 50% morman, nothing compared to the 95% in the rest of Utah! We went to Temple Square which was OK but didn't spend much time outside as it was snowing and really cold. We went to the Family History Library where you can research your ancestors in books, files and use the computers for the 3+ Billion people that they have on record from around the world. They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas or what happens in Vegas stays with you for the rest of your life and in our case that is true. On our last day in Vegas we decided to visit a chapel and get married as weighing up the $120 cost of doing it there and then to the cost of doing it back home it seemed like a really good thing to do. So congratulations are needed for newly Mr and Mrs Stephenson who were married at 3.30pm on Thursday 10th November 2011 in Cupid's Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas, Navada. We both wore jeans and our waitnesses were a couple from Utah who had just won over $20,000 in a casino on one of the machines and decided to get married. Right, now that the ... read more

We hired a car when we arrived in Flagstaff, Arizona, a nice comfy silver nissen automatic, so so easy to drive. It was about a 2 hour drive to the Grand Canyon where we were spending 3 nights with Daniel, our host in Grand Canyon Villege. I don't think we were at all prepared for what we were about to experience. What an amazing place, the Canyon stretched as far as you could see and it was just WOW every time you looked at it, it left us both speachless. We would turn away from the Canyon for a second and then look back and have the surprise as if we were seeing it for the first time all over again. We got up at 6am to see the sunrise before taking a hike into the ... read more
