After Las Vegas we spend a night staying in Salt Lake City with Matt our host. We paid the $10 each and bought into a poker game around at one of Matt's friends homes but of course with our really bad luck in gambling we got kicked out in the first round, still had fun though. We spent a few hours in downtown Salt Lake City which is 50% morman, nothing compared to the 95% in the rest of Utah! We went to Temple Square which was OK but didn't spend much time outside as it was snowing and really cold. We went to the Family History Library where you can research your ancestors in books, files and use the computers for the 3+ Billion people that they have on record from around the world. Matt didn't have much luck but Kerry was able to get back to Great Great Great Grandparents who where born in the 1830's cool eh!
The bus journey to San Francisco was not one of the best! We arrived at the station at 9.30pm for an 11pm bus, we then didn't leave until 3.30pm due to another bus running late! After 15 hours of travelling
we eventually arrived not relaxed at all!
Our host Jeremy in San Francisco was so kind, he enjoyed cooking and cooked great food for us while we were here. He also took us to some great photo spots and told us about some really great walking tours and places to visit. Thank You. We got lucky with weather here as many people visiting don't get to see the Golden Gate Bridge due to fog and mist. Well we had clear skys during our visit so got to see the bridge standing loud and as proud as ever. We visited the Bay and went to pier 39 to see the collection of Sea Lions that are there, while nobody can explain why. The California Academy of Sciences was good. On Thursday Nights the Academy have an over 21's night where tickets are half price. It was great that we got in for half the price, not so great as this night has loud music throughout the museums, rain forest and aquarium, sell expensive drinks and it looked pretty much like a singles event to meet people. Us, well we wanted to see the museum stuff. Suppose it was a little
funny as most people were in heels and smart jackets and we were in trainers and hoodies.
The walking tours around San Francisco are great if your on a budget as they're totally free and you get to learn about different parts of the city so they were interesting. We took the Nob Hill tour, which is where all the people with money in the late 1800's lived until the fire came in 1906 and burnt them all down! we also took the tour around Alamo Square and learned about the different styles of houses built, from Victorian to Edwardian. This tour started really different in someones house that had been restored back to 1870's when it had been built, it was like a museum in there. We also got to see the 7 painted ladies, the most photographed houses in San Francisco. The walking tours good, all the hills bad.....
One of the most interesting places that we've seen in the whole of America has to be Alkatraz. Admission included an audio tour around the cells and the whole prison which was brilliant. We got to see where Al Capone spent 4 years of his life and
how 3 people tried to escape. Although Alkatraz still remains the only prison in which nobody escaped as there were no evidence that the three that tried actually survived!
Sending Love,
Matt and Kerry
Funny thing, you know when your in a lift, you always look at either the ceiling or the floor...
