We are now in Hong Kong. We are staying in Kowloon which is across the harbor from Hong Kong Island. We arrived here on Thursday night. On Friday week looked around the area we are staying and also went down to the water front. On Saturday we took a ferry across to Hong Kong Island. We walked up to Victoria Peak. We waited there until after dark so look down at the city lit up at night. We took the tram down to the bottom. On Sunday we went to Ocean Park. Ocean Park has animals, rides, a cable-car, dolphin show etc. There are also excellent views from Ocean Park. Yesterday we took a boat trip around the harbor. Today we went to Lantau Island and saw the largest Budda in the world. - Matt... read more

From Ayuthaya we took two buses to Kanchanaburi. We saw the 'death railway' and the bridge on the river Kwai. Also museums about the railway and the POW cemetary for the prisoners who died building the railway. From there we took 2 trains to Chumphon, where we stayed overnight. From there we took a boat to the island of Ko Tao (about a 2 hour boat trip from the mainland). We stayed there for four days. One day Matt went Scuba diving. The next day we moved to a quiet place where we rested and went swimming and snorkeling. It was very pretty but it was not close to anything so we left after a few days. From Ko Tao we took another boat to the island of Ko Samui. This was also a 2 hour ... read more

We are now in Lopburi. We are staying in the old part of the city (a few miles from the new city). There are a lot of ruins here (temples and a palace). There are also a lot of monkeys, around the ruins and also in the town. I have a lot of pictures that I will add later. - Matt... read more

We took a bus from Chiang Mai to Sukhotai. It was about 6 hours and not very comfortable - we will try to use the train in future. In Sukhotai we went to the Sukhotai Historical Park. This is the remains of the 'old city' which is about 700 years old. It is very large, we rented a bike to get around the park. It was very impressive (but very hot). We left Sukhotai this morning (1 hour by bus) to get to Phitsanuluk - we are resting here today and taking a train tomorrow to Lopburi. -Matt... read more

We took the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We didn't see much from the train because it was night time but we are going to make our way back south more slowly. We stayed in Chiang Mai for a few days. It is an interesting place with lots to see and is much less chaotic than Bangkok. We went on a trip out of the city where we rode on an Elephant through part of a park and saw an elephant show. We also went on a bamboo raft along a river. We also went to a class in Chiang Mai where we learnt about Thai cooking. - Matt ... read more

We arrived in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday evening. Bangkok is very busy (like Singapore) but is much more chaotic. The traffic is much worse since the skytrain and subway are not extensive - I think they are new and they plan to expand them. There are a lot of motorcycles and tuk-tuk (three-wheeled motor vehicle taxis) as well as cars and buses. On Wednesday we walked around the part of the city we were staying and also found a bus that was going to the train station so we could buy tickets to our next destination. It was interesting to walk around in a new place. On Thusday we went to the 'Grand Palace'. This is a huge complex of buildings (the King no longer lives there). It was very impressive. Attached is a Wat (temple) ... read more

We flew from Perth to Singapore. Originally this was just to change planes on-route to Thailand, but we decided to stay for a few days. Singapore is a very busy place, lot of people everywhere. But it is very well organized and also very clean. It was very easy to get around on public transport. The MRT (subway) was very good. We spent one day walking around, we walked down to the river and looked around some shopping areas - Singapore has lots of huge, modern shopping centers. We also went to China town and looked around a market area and walked down to the river. Another day we went to the 'Night Safari'. This is like a zoo, but it is only open at night. You ride around in a tram and there are also ... read more
