Hola amigos y amigas, Que tal? Hope you are enjoying an excellent extended summer back home ! We also took a summer break.... regarding updating the travelblog. Great for us, not for our (still) worried relatives & friends, especially now with upcoming hurricane Felix (no pasa nada so far...). But now we are back on track ! After a long stay (5 weeks) in fascinating Venezuela we left South America behind us mid- August and continued our way into Central America, with Mexico City as our final destination mid October (snif snif, time is flying ! ). We already spent 2 [View Full Entry]

Hola amigos and amigas, We promise this will be a short update ! No time to waste on the Caribbean coast..... Our encounter with Venezuela started in Santa Elena, a quiet town in the South of the country. From there we visited the Gran Sabana, a vast grassy highland, famous for its tepuis (table mountains). We had a very nice day, exploring waterfalls, waterslopes and hilly landscapes. Although slightly hindered by the 1.000.000 mosquitos..... proofs on our arms and legs still visible ! With a very cold nightbus (upon disembarkment our glasses 'steamed', caused by the difference in temperature...) we then [View Full Entry]

Hola a todos y todas ! Yuppy, we are back in a Spanish speaking country, cause we're in Venezuela now. Ok, ok, let's admit it, we've become a bit lazy when it comes to regularly updating this travelblog. ´Your rigourous rhythm is becoming slightly less rigourous´we were told.. It´s just that we are so busy with our exciting adventures, that is a valid excuse, isn´t it ? From now on we´ll do better (hopefully..). Hereafter a concise, ahum... summary of all the stuff we have been doing for the last 3 weeks ! We wrote our last update in Praia da [View Full Entry]

"Oi"! Ok, so far our Portuguese.... From a sunny (but today tropical rainy) Pipa, greetings from Mar&Mar ! Finally we made it to the REAL Brazil with samba, beach, capoeira, petit bikinis and of course caipirinha´s at sunset. Quite a different taste compared to the European touch of Argentina and Uruguay ... in terms of weather, food, landscape & the way of travelling (need to be more aware of personal safety). After the amazing Iguazu Falls, we had one day to spare and decided to visit Itaipu, the world´s largest hydro-electrical power plant (Andreas, even we, non-technical folks, enjoyed it. Thanks [View Full Entry]

After a fulfilling day spent in the National Park in Iguazu we are going to update you on our latest adventures. As we indicated in the last blog, our next destination was Mendoza, which was a very good choice. We hired a car and went towards Alta Montaña to discover Aconcagua, the highest summit in the Western hemisphere (6,962m!!). Well, not necessarily to hike it ourselves (only because it was not the right season for it - just kidding ... would need at least 15 full days and QUITE some exercise beforehand... :-) but to have great panoramic views from the [View Full Entry]

Buenas tardes, On this lazy sunday afternoon in Mendoza, Argentina, we´d like to share with you the highlights of our latest adventures. We spent a complete week in Uruguay, staying several days in Colonia de Sacramento, which is a lovely, cobblestone city, surrounded by water. From there we ¨day-tripped¨to Nueva Suiza, a quiet village founded by European immigrants. Another day was reserved for Carmelo. We decided to rent bikes, discover the surroundings and visit a bodega (vineyard). However, we were ¨slightly¨ hindered in this plan by a...... DOG ! After 15 min on our bikes a loudly barking, scary German shepherd [View Full Entry]

Hola a todos ! Currently we are in Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. But let´s update you first on our last great days in Buenos Aires, where we are still going to return twice in the coming weeks ! So Buenos Aires, definitely a city to check out ! We walked for hours and hours through several interesting neighbourhoods. Palermo Viejo is an artistic, charming part of the city with lots of trendy galeries, bars and restaurants. It´s also called Palermo Soho and for sure it has a feel of NYC ! Of course a tango-show was part of our program [View Full Entry]

This will be my - Martina's - first entry in the travel blog, which Marieke already started well a couple of weeks ago. The arrival in Buenos Aires was all fine - after 24h+ of travel (started in Austria, departed from Germany, visited UK, took a break in Brazil....) I finally arrived in this very nice, elegant and European-style city. Marieke gave me some updates on her first weeks in Latin America while we were enjoying a nice cafe au lait surrounded by busy business people on their break from work :-) Then - in the afternoon - we took a [View Full Entry]

I am in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina ! Don´t know exactly how and why, but I am totally excited ! Is it the city or is it because my dear friend Martina is arriving tomorrow ? I think both. I flew in from La Paz, Bolivia today. We had a stop-over in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (in Bolivia), which came as a surprise to me, once I was on the flight. As usual I just go with the flow, not so organised and had no idea it wasn´t a direct flight, the travel agency hadn´t told me either.. So [View Full Entry]

After a nice cappucino & sandwich in the morning sun @ a terrace in Cusco, I now feel tired but satisfied after having hiked the famous Inca-trail for the last couple of days (from Saturday to Tuesday). The Inca-trail is a 42-km, 4-day hike, with 3 high mountain passes to be crossed, leading up to the Lost City of the Inca´s, Machu Picchu, discovered in 1911. Too tired to elaborate here on the history, culture & development of the Inca empire... :-) so if you wanna know more, Google it ! The trail is often steep, challenging at times (you need [View Full Entry]
