Spring rain Sorry you have had so much rain. Not as bad as Spain last year,I hope. Perhaps Copenhagen was fine. You will be looking forward to your greenery back here in your backyard. I am looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday and hearing more stories. Mo
So today I prepped the garden as I'm sure its warm enough to sit in! Finally! Tomorrow is potatoe day. I look forward to hearing your adventures very soon.
Length of tour I hear you about a 28 day tour! That's longer than I like to be away from home. I also like to have some time that isn't scheduled, albeit G Adventures tours do build that in to a certain extent. Nevertheless, if all tours were as action-packed as the Morocco tour, that simply isn't for me. I did my last facilitation yesterday. Today I feel drained & exhausted. It's a decision waiting to be made & it has been. I want to figure out how to celebrate my 7 year stint as a consultant (2013-2019) and recognize some clients. At this point in my life, I'd like to spend more of my time on things like our Syrian refugee family and gatherings with friends. Jane & I want to do a Morocco party before the end of June. Have fun in Copenhagen - I do look forward to hearing about it if you have time! Warmest hugs from Joy
Balkans I'm not a Game of Thrones-watcher, so don't understand the references. Do they film the show in Dubrovnik? Also wondering about your reflections on the "Serbs"--you mean the Serbian army? Or the people in general? I think I should do some reading about that war. I know the genocide was horrible, but wonder which politicians were to blame. Enjoy your last few days; hopefully the weather co-operates in Denmark. On the home front, we had a teeny bit of rain last night! It smelled SO NICE this morning.
Hey Hey, Pam, sounds good, except for too much rain! We are still praying, hoping, and dancing for rain, any rain. Last night was the final temperature below zero (I hope), and the sun is shining, temps are warming, and plants are growing! Leaves are popping out on the trees like they can't wait anymore. Lilies and peonies are finally brave enough to pop their little faces out of the ground. Everybody is ready for some warm weather here.
Eastern Europe Countries It has been interesting to read your comments of these countries as I have friends who originate from some of those countries . Comments all sound similar as they recover from the communist years and the war of the early 90's and much dislike for the Serbians. Many people feel they still have close ties and values to the Russians. Perhaps because of the Orthodox religion and aggressive tendencies to get what they want at any costs. History is very interesting, the old buildings are fascinating and the wars reflect the many conflicts .Enjoy walking the steps of history and the good beer!!!!
hi Pam Thanks Pam, so very interesting! We had a wonderful anniversary party, a week ago already. Lots of good visits, food and singing. Our spring is very slow still below freezing every night and I haven't done any yard work yet. Soon I hope!
Could be anything those 3 Springs! Not a broken bed,I hope. Your trip sounds highly informative and pleasurable. I hope it continues that way. I have Pasqua flowers of both colours and lots of buds. Cathy M was here at the end of April and she was great. Keep enjoying and we shall see you mid month.
Spring You'll be damn lucky to come back to spring here! It's still freezing at night & although sunny some days, there's a bitterly cold wind. Interested in hearing more about your comment about Serbs - when you get back.
Serbia Such an interesting part of the world. My colleague immigrated to Canada from Serbia in 1996 to escape the war. How awful humans can be sometimes. She recalls the centuries-old stone buildings and walkways, and remembers them being polished "like glass" from the weather and use. Her family had a summer home in Dubrovnik, which she remembers fondly. She says you're in for a treat when you get to the Adriatic locales. Enjoy! Still chilly and dry in Saskatoon; only a few millimeters of rain in all of April. Still the hardy perennials are starting to peek up, but we need rain (I'm a farmer's daughter!).
Actually Jo, not Larry So glad you are having lots of adventures and meeting nice people. We were at the cabin in the snow storm, reminded us of 2010, same time, same place, but it was 10 times worse that time. This time was bad, but not horrible. We need the moisture, but not the dreariness. Found some felled trees which were already corded, so hauled 3 trailer loads. Will be nice to finally see green, and flowers.
I'm sure your yard will be full of new buds, etc. Cheers!
Attention to detail I love the posts Pam. Especially your attention to detail of the food, the people and the weather. I think I need to travel to all these destinations
Rain for you Hi. Being born in a cold damp country doesn't help with rain either. Hope you don't have too much more of that. Glad you had an interesting seat companion on the bus. Too bad Belgrade was grey. The first time I went to Barcelona it tipped it down. There was a transit strike too. The next visit was in full sunshine ,transit was up and running and it seemed like a totally different city. Knowing you,you will see the best in everything.
Serbia Wow, you are really getting around! Reminds me of that old movie "If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium"! Does it seem like you're always on the road, or is there enough time to relax in-between? I'm sure the civil war was hard on the buildings and people in Serbia and area. Glad to hear some of the ancient structures survived. All is well here, trees are beginning to bud, so that tease of colour is encouraging us that spring will eventually become summer. Still very very dry in Saskatoon and area. Lots of snow down south apparently. Glad you're finding fun and food and brewskis! Take care.
Agreed Pam, I’m so glad you enjoyed Budapest! The food and the ruins bar sound amazing. The mineral baths are always a good choice.
Take care and I look forward to hearing about the next portion of your trip.
What you're missing So it's snowing quite hard at the moment. It's a wet snow, though, and will likely not last past tomorrow. We have moisture to counteract the drought of March and the grass fires of April.
Flooding in eastern Canada. Parts of Montreal and Gatineau. But you know all this.
It sounds like you're having a wonderful time. Black beer! You mean Guiness?
And looking forward to your own space. They won't charge you more for that, right?
Carol has asked me to forward your missives, and so I shall.
Cheers!
Hi Hey Pam, interesting blog. Some of these cities are the right size with good choices for visitors. Great to hear. Today I planted lily bulbs, a gift from my "boss". Hope springs, dry and cool in Saskatoon. Southern Alberta and SK were walloped with some snow.
Cathedral In 1997, when my friend Marilyn & I were in Budapest, we went to St Stephen's Cathedral for a Sunday service. The symphony orchestra was fabulous. She was raised Catholic so she was able to explain some of what we were seeing. Originally she had refused to go, but I insisted, & she later admitted it was a good decision:).
Vienna We spent a few days there had wonderful Sacra-torte and enjoyed the city and museums. Did you see the Lepizans? We were supposed to go to a concert but I was sick with a terrible cold, my eyes were practically sealed shut. This is where our river cruise ended we spent s few days before going to Prague.
Enjoy Budapest it is on my bucket list.
I am off on another travel venture. This retirement thing is quite wonderful ,I recommend it to you all. Keep me posted on your activities.... full info
