It's a Small World After all. It's a world of laughter, a world or tears; It’s a world of hopes, it’s a world of fear. There’s so much that we share; that its time we're aware, it’s a small world after all Since I was a small child and visited Disneyland for the first time, the Matterhorn has always fascinated me. For some reason, my first real glimpse of the Matterhorn had me singing “It’s a small world” to myself. It’s amazing how things will zip you right back to your childhood. In fact, I now have that song stuck [View Full Entry]

Greetings to all, We have received multiple e-mails and messages that the photo from the Bavarian Alps post did not post correctly. Thanks to each of you for pointing this out to us. The server hosting travelblog is presently experiencing photo difficulties, but they assure us that they are working on the issue. Once they correct the server problem, the photo will post as previously posted. Although I am catching up on the blog updates, photos have been the most time consuming part of the updates. Until the host corrects the photo challenges, I will update without photos and let yo [View Full Entry]

Garmish-Partenkirchen We experience yet another jewel as we spend some time in the Bavarian Alps. A special Thanks to Dan and Marianne for giving us some valuable travel advice for this leg of our trip. Upon your recommendation and assistance, we stay at the Forsthaus Hotel in Oberau in lieu of going into the Garmish area. The Forsthaus Hotel is located directly across the street from the train station in Oberau and proves to be a remarkable place to stay. The place is run by Bruce and Lisa. These are two remarkable hosts. Each morning, they come down and visit with [View Full Entry]

Munich Munchen is the German name for Munich. I searched high and low for the Munchen Carpet store, but couldn’t find it—I knew right away that this town was nothing like Brussels. If you didn’t get it, that’s ok, move on. On Thursday, 7 August, Dan dropped us at the train station and we parted ways with the promise to reconnect in the future and not wait so long to visit each other. After a short train ride, we arrive in Munich. Our stop at this destination would be a short two days before moving on into the heart of Bavaria. [View Full Entry]

On Friday, 1 August, we board the train to Kaiserslautern to link up with some old friends. The train ride from Interlaken requires four transfers to get us to our final destination. We meet Dan at the train station and proceed to his house. Let me begin this post with a little background. I first met Dan and Marianne in Denver, Colorado in late 1987. These two special folks became great friends from the start. They are two of only a handful of people who knew me during one of the dark periods of my life and are still dear [View Full Entry]

The Land between the Lakes—Interlaken, Switzerland. Interlaken is located right between the lakes of Thun and Brienz in the Swiss Alps. WOW, what a spectacular place. Prior to deciding on going to Interlaken, we had read countless journals, stories and guidebooks about this fantastic destination. Many people complained about how expensive it is and that if you weren’t into extreme sports you would not be happy. Guess what folks—Interlaken is our second favorite stop on the tour so far. We spent 7 days in the Interlaken area and every day was action packed for the bo [View Full Entry]

Those folks who know Lynne and I very well, know that we became addicted to hot springs and thermal baths during the 3 years we lived in Japan. We carried this addiction with us to Utah where we sought out every thermal spring we could find. We had a more difficult time when living in Kuwait, but we able to do our weekly spa sessions at the Hilton Resort. At the beginning of our journey, we had the luxury of soaking in the many geothermal heated pool and springs while we were in Iceland. After over a month of no soaking, [View Full Entry]

While traveling around the world we choose our destinations to give us great memories of this epic journey. Most times we will pick winning locations, other times we pick some less than desirable locations. Brussels falls into the latter category for us. We board the train in Paris and head towards Brussels. The train ride is quite nice and we take full advantage of our Eurail Pass and sit in the first class section. After a relatively short train ride, we arrive in Brussels. Our arrival date is the 18th of July. Stepping off the train, we give ourselves a few [View Full Entry]
