The second full day spent in Scotland we traveled to Edinburgh to walk around the town and take in the beautiful sights. The accents heard here are quite different than the accents in London. Much thicker and harder to understand, but I'm sure if I spent time as long as I did here as I have in London so far I would be able to become accustomed to it. It's so different being in a city here versus being in London. The buildings aren't as clean looking and still have soot on them. Although, it is comforting to know that the countryside isn't as far away as it is in London. While driving there and into Scotland in general there is beautiful scenery all the way there. Instead of seeing cows everywhere there are tons of ... read more

There were two places in Scotland that we visited and the main city that we stayed in was Glasgow. The bus ride down there was a little long to say the least. We took a ton of breaks, visited a city on the way for lunch and we finally made a 6 hr trip into 11 hours with the traffic and breaks. Thank goodness I can sleep almost anywhere! When we arrived at the Premier Inn hotel we had some down time to get situated before having our arrival dinner. This hotel was like a breath of fresh air and a good break from the tiny dorms and showers that we're used to. For dinner I had my first Fish & Chips while in the UK! It was pretty good and something I will definitely have ... read more

On Monday there was a play that we had to go to for our theatre class called Playboy of the Western World . It was in The Old Vic theatre and that is one of the nicest I've been to so far. As usual we couldn't take picture on the inside but it was elaborate with red velvet seats and there were two balcony areas with seating and the main floor. I was seated on the second balcony which was very high up but not so high where I couldn't see the stage and would have needed binoculars. The play was an Irish play and it was about a young man who thought he had killed his father and then ran away into some womans home. They fall in love and low and behold his father ... read more

A place of death, torture, captivity, jewels, and beasts is what you will find at the Tower of London. This is where people who were elite or royalty were beheaded or held prisoner. There are actually 21 different towers on the site called the Tower of London. It's mostly known for the beheading's that take place there. William Hastings, Anne Boleyn, Jane Boleyn, and Lady Jane Grey are some of the more famous beheading's that took place there. When someone was being beheaded it didn't always go according to plan. Sometimes it would take several swings to completely take the head off and in between hacks the executed would still be alive. This is why Queen Anne Boleyn wanted to be beheaded with a sword and it was said that all it took was once and ... read more

For theatre class all we do is take tours and see plays! Yesterday we took a tour of the Globe Theatre and later that night we saw a play called "The Globe Mysteries." The theatre that I visited isn't the original globe that Shakespeare wrote his plays in. It's actual a remake of what they think the globe used to look like. The stage is absolutely breathtaking. To the right and left of the stage are boxes that the elite sit in and there are murals that are painted in the background which is something I've never seen before. Right behind the stage is also a seating area. When Shakespeare had plays the richest people that were going to the theatre would sit in those areas. Although it isn't the best view of the play, they ... read more

Thursday the 15th I took another trip back to the British Museum! This is by far my favorite museum because there are so many interesting exhibits and collections of things that interest me. Me and a few friends traveled in more depth the Egyptian exhibit and the Roman collection. There were so many mummies and hieroglyphics it was so interesting. I've never been to a place where there were so many sarcophagus' in one area! An exhibit was dedicated to money and it was so interesting the differences of coins and paper money. Many countries have so many colors in their paper money compared to American dollar bills. It's actually quite pretty to see. Then they had other funny money like bank of hell or bank of love written on the bills. On Friday we had ... read more

I had no idea what to expect when I entered this Cathedral. Well I've never really been in one before so I don't have anything to compare it to. But it was gorgeous with all of the light streaming in and hitting all of the the gold trimmings and murals that are painted everywhere. I went there with my history class and I seem to have chosen the best classes over here to be in. My theatre class just goes to plays all the time and writes reviews. My history class we take field trips to places like St. Paul's Cathedral and upcoming we have the London Tower. Then my anthropology or popular British music class is just listening to music and learning about it the entire class time. Anyways more about St. Paul's. It was ... read more

Sunday was a very eventful day with a audio tour through Buckingham Palace and then the Thames River Festival right afterwards. The palace was everything I expected and more. We were allowed to go through the State Rooms and some other rooms as well. We listened to an audio recording as we were guided through at our own pace. They did the audio recordings because they were in 7 different languages! There are very grand and elaborate entrances, receiving rooms, staircases, and even the hallways are extravagant. The grand staircase is something you would only expect to see in the movies and I was lucky enough to actually get to walk through it. They were describing that when they built the palace they had a budget and they exceeded that budget by three times because of ... read more

Need to keep this updated more! So many things have happened since this last Tuesday... Wednesday was my first full day of classes and they are interesting to say the least. My anthropology class is all about music and how it's changed over time in London from jazz to punk to popular music and all that falls in between so perfect class for me. Thanks goodness though he gave us tons of venues to go to that are cheap to just sit and listen to music. Jazz is at the root of a lot of music around here so there are plenty of jazz clubs to go to and listen to music. Which will definitely be on my list of things to do. Then my history class on the other hand is a bit tedious it ... read more

Monday was the first day of class! Well I only have class in the afternoon so it isn't bad at all. The theatre class is going to be great fun. It seems as if all we do is watch plays and write reviews and maybe read a review here or there. We don't have an actual class for another 3 weeks because we are going on tours and just watching plays for the weeks in between. This is such a wonderful relaxed place. The actual place that we have our classes in is actually quite nice. There's a nice garden that you walk through in order to get to the classroom which is surprising once again especially because you go from a street which is building after building and then just go through this building a ... read more
