Borneo Sabah Well on arrival at Kota Kinabalu the weather was glorious the plane lands with south china sea to your left hand side and a few islands in the distance. There seems to be a lot of work going on in Kota Kinabalu (KK) and in my opinion it will a totally different place in the next ten years. We chilled out in our hotel and waited to meet members of our group who we would be travelling with. If anyone is reading this and is climbing the mountain I brought all my stuff over with me from the UK but there are a couple of so called mountaineering shops in KK where you can buy ruck sacs torches knives ~Leki walking sticks etc.... Anyone thinking of visiting the Lake District in the UK? If you enjoy the outdoors and good walks then I'd advise to go. On Sunday we walked a classic Lakeland walk known as the Fairfield Horse shoe, we are getting some training in because we go to Borneo in 6 weeks to tackle Mount Kinabalu. This walk starts in Ambleside and finishes in Ryedale, it was really tough and the scenery is as good as any I've seen. The walk itself was about 14 miles and took us about 6 hours I’ve got to re iterate it was quite tough but then again I’m not an experienced walker. Just got back from travelling and amazed at how my home city has changed although theres lots of building still going on its going to look fantastic when finished, Huge hotels popping up everywhere and a real cosmopolitian feel to it. Liverpool is definately the fastest growing city and the tourism has shot through the roof... read more

I bit the bullet and got a Ford transit from appollo at 65 dollars a day excellent I roughed it in Australia in a shit van for three months and was fortunate to sell it Lots of people here seem to be getting stuck with Vans 65 may seem a lot to people on a budget but I'm travelling with my girl so its half the beds excellent totoally self sufficient got a shower toilet etc...... False ecconomy buying a van and doing the kiwi experience 65 dollars for a mobile home well worth it you only need four weeks in NZ and thats quite long too Excellwent place but 4 weeks is ample... read more
