Hello followers! How's it all going in the sunburnt country these days? Sorry that it has taken a while for me to bring you all up to date. Very hard to catch up a week when everything is still busy. Really want to thank you for reading my blogs too :)! It is great to see the stats and know that I won't have to repeat myself a 100 times when I get home LOL! But seriously, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that you are on this journey with me - from kids, to relatives, friends, teamies, workmates & I guess the occasional boss too! So let's get down to the business of telling you all about the Puno region. Ummm... Puno the city itself is nothing really amazing. It has a slightly ... read more

Well folks, this blog is about a day trip I did on Thursday May 1st as it was a public holiday in Peru for labour day. They seem to celebrate lots of different 'days' here with fireworks and parties which last all week. Even though this was only 6 days ago, I am finding it very difficult to remember......must be that Alzheimer's setting in lol! I made my way to the Plaza de Armas by 8.30 to meet Edgar my tours manager. Edgar is a great guy who works really hard at providing trips to those staying at Patricia's. Edgar is not always easy to understand as he talks English really quickly and while you think you are getting a lot of detail, it's not until you are on the tours that you realise that there ... read more

No! Not the movie sillies. The real thing! But first things, first....sorry for not having updated for so long. On the weekend I was in Arequipa from Friday night until Monday morning at 6.00am. I returned to Cusco only to find that the wifi at Patricia's house had been updated....which in fact meant broken. It has taken until last Thursday for it to be fixed (we are on Peruvian time of course) and since then this is the first opportunity that I have had to sit down and try to remember what has been going on in the last 10 or so days. When I started writing this blog I had just finished skyping with Jane and felt a bit homesick to boot :( however........ Back to the condors! Had the most amazing weekend which started ... read more

I am slowly starting to see the connections between the verbs, masculine, feminine and nouns in the Spanish language, but this old dog is having a lot of trouble learning these new tricks. My teacher Luchow fortunately has a sense of humour and constantly tells me I'm improving. While I am desperate to believe him, the reality is more like it was for poor Vanessa in Melbourne - I am just driving him insane. Never mind, I will preservere and tomorrow we will attempt real conversations when we meet in the Plaza de Armas to see if I can really confuse some people. My lessons are arranged for every day this week starting at 3.30pm till 5.30pm, but Luchow was unable to be here yesterday so it was a great opportunity to go with Lauren, Ros ... read more

It is starting to become a challenge to remember the sequence of events for each day. While I thought this blog would be an efficient way to record things rather than write them in a journal, it is very easy to leave it for a couple of days on the pretext that I don't want to bore everyone to death! Of course, then when I go to write to you all I can't remember how many things have happened and when - oh the pain of being on holidays LOL! Having said that, I have had some great experiences over the last 3 days that I can share with you. On Good Friday our Brazilian friend Gabby was having her last day before heading home. She was keen to see some of the Churches before leaving ... read more

Yep, just when I thought I had escaped the dreaded altitude sickness it hit me! Icky headache on day 3, which I thought was to do with not wearing my new hat while playing with the kids at the 3-4 yr olds project. Turns out that, combined with an a very unsettled stomach, lack of appetite and tiredness, I needed to slow down and rest. So that's what I did all yesterday and today felt much better. Walked into the main shopping area near our home and noticed how easily I lost my breath due to the altitude. Everyone says it will be fine in a few days so looking forward to that. The 4 British girls and I went into the Plaza de Armas on Monday night to be part of the huge festival that ... read more

I'm here in Peru .... I made it!! Sooo busy at the airport. It felt like every flight arrived at the same time and apparently they do! My driver Mario was there to greet me and provide a very calming influence. Thank goodness as it would have been very easy to have been swept away in the sea of people. I was wisked away to the lovely Maritza's appartment after a 30 min drive. Have posted a view from her lounge room. The flight over was pretty good and the pilot landed very well (see, I'm feeling like I can comment now that I have landed a few times lol) but it felt like10 hrs instead of 5. Most probably because I am still trying to recover from the jet lag and haven't really stopped. But, ... read more

So who says flying isn't fun? ME! that's who!!! After dealing with all the emotions of leaving home, the big farewell from Jane, then finding the card she left me in my bag (naughty girl Jane :) ), sitting next to someone in the lounge who was blubbering just like me (lovely to meet you Genna and I hope your wonderful new life in LA is just the start of good things to come), enjoying the plane food (yes I like it!) and watching 3 movies I have had on my hit list, I was really getting into having things under control. Until I got to LAX. Now it wasn't the fact that I don't really like this airport, or that it took 2 hours to get my bags and go through customs. Really, that didn't ... read more

Well it is the night before my big adventure starts. Today was supposed to be a bit of fun with repacking, checking a few details and sending a copy of all my docs off to Kal, Ry and Jane. I even had planned to have a massage! Ummmmm.....really should stop planning as I keep getting disappointed when it all goes skewif! I didn't have a massage...(guess that was pretty obvious), spent nearly all day on the computer trying to get my phone restored after getting it replace by Apple on Saturday. Conversations with the travel agent about accommodation weren't doing anything for my stress levels and as I type this, I still haven't got them confirmed in Lima. My printer didn't want to print; I can't get the shuttle to my hotel in Miami as I ... read more
