This travel blog began as a way to thank everyone who helped make my training in Europe a reality. It now, obviously, has an extended purpose: to, sort of, chronicle all of my travels.

Wow. it took me a while to get this entry up, because the husband came to visit and then I had a bout with a stomach bug. Yuck. *Update* Park has had the swine flu all week. He made it back to Atlanta, and we think he caught it on the plane. He was feeling REALLY bad for a few days, and is finally doing better. Any who. . . Last week we began class with Eden and continued our training. We worked on both deeply emotional and highly comedic slices of life. We worked more on using the time we have in the waiting room to imagine the specifics of the life of this person than worrying about the words. It's very helpful. We met with Phil Brock, a manager/agent who answered lots of our ... read more

It'll be quite the journey we are taking. . . Wow. So. . . I'm in Los Angeles. I am settled (mostly) into my delightful room at my spectacular and generous friends'- Queenie and Ace- home. I am sharing the space with Lola the cat, and occasionally Wolfy the dog. Both are good roomies. Lola is prone to leaping upon my arm whenever it offends her during the night, but we are beginning to come to an understanding that this is not, under any circumstance, acceptable. Also, next door, and out the window, is a man who sits at his computer all day and night in his boxers. Sort of like the ugly naked guy, but with a few more clothes. Let us hope it stays that way. Queenie and I ate on Sunday night at ... read more

Our wedding was FANTASTIC. FABULOUS. PERFECT. It was everything we'd hoped for and more- and we are so thankful for all the help and support from our wonderful families and friends. Here are a few photos from the day. . . these are travel related because. . . we're honeymooning in France! A week in Paris and a week in Nice (with a stop in Avignon on the way). So, I'll put up some photos soon of the places we are staying and things we want to see, and we can compare later with the photos that we take! Cheers! WOW! What a great trip out West. I got to spend time with Toni and Queenie, two of my best friends from Stephens. It was thrilling to see a part of my country that looks SO different than the rolling, tree covered hills of GA. And going to La definitely made me understand why everyone thinks it's so great. Because it is. It is a BEAUTIFUL city. I flew out to Phoenix and Toni was there to pick me up. I couldn't believe I hadn't seen her since Graduation in 2004. It really did my soul good. We spent some good quality time seeing Phoenix, including a tour of all the theatres Toni had worked at! It was shocking, however, when she told me about the state of the theatre community there. There is ONE paid ... read more

April 23rd 2007

I had a great time in NY! I stayed on the upper east side with Andrea. Her apartment is just great. Lisette and Rachel seem to be doing really well, too. They live in a quasi-train car place at 90th and 1st. We spent a good deal of time doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, which was just what I needed. We walked around to a bunch of the acting studios to distribute post cards for the acting studio for which Andrea works. She was sick for one of the days I was there, so we sat on our butts watching her Tivo and then went to Aces and Eights at 86th and hung out with Beth, Erin, Amber and Toni while Lisette was bartending. Isabelle, Toni's new dog, is really cute. The exhibit we saw at the ... read more

But the art is so delightful . . . Oh, the last day in beautiful Bielefeld, Germany. The weather is incredibly gloomy and oogey, which do not mean the same thing, neccesarily. I had my last work session with Yoshi Oida, after which we had a short lunch and presented our Japanese Mythology Story Tellings. Well, I should say that we presented a story that is based on Japanese Mythology. Because we were not instructed on how to tell these stories in any sort of Japanese tradition, as we had imagined. Some were good, very clear. Some were . . . strange, yet weird. Last night was our work demonstration. It was very successful, I think. The theatre was much more full than I had imagined. Unfortunately, Park's train was delayed by more than 30 minutes, ... read more

I apologize for my belated entries, while I do have internet here in my hostel, at the end of the day I can do almost nothing but fall asleep. Things in Bielefeld are fine. The weather has improved slightly. I was not freezing to death as I walked to Theater at 8:20 this morning. We met early to warm up so that we could have extra time with Ismael. Our fist day with Ismael Ivo was totally invigorating. A very god warm up followed by very precise isolation work. We moved in one direction, then changed direction- either by making a decision very quickly or very slowly. The work was very precise, but got us all out of "dancer" mode and just has us moving like normal people, which is more difficult than it sounds. We ... read more

I have been bad about writing, because I was trying to wait until I had a lot of pictures. But now, so much time has passed, and I have photos, and I have so much to write I don't know where to begin! So probably I will ramble a good deal in this entry, but I promise lots of photos. We finished our session with Tage Larsen, of the Odin Teatret, yesterday evening around 5. With Tage we worked on a specific way of developing a performance which involves creating a set of actions, and knowing them in your sleep. Also, preparing a text which you could say in your sleep. The two should be unrelated. I mean that you should not think of your text when creating the actions nor should you choose a text ... read more

It's not even on the city listings here. Hannover is the closest city that is listed. However, it does remind me a bit of Columbia, MO, where I went to Stephens. So, that's nice. Tonight we met with all of the participants for the coming two weeks. There are MANY of us. Today was spent working on our own, those of us who had already come form Poland, and it was really very nice. We worked for about five hours, and took some time to do shopping and rest a bit. The days will be very full from here on out, but not terribly long. Our schedule for the next few days will be: 9-10 Warm-up 10- 4 Work session with a lunch break from 1-2 We'll also have some extra work time with Sigmar Schroeder, ... read more

So, it’s been some time since I have posted anything. And that is because I’ve been in the middle of the woods in Poland for 7 days. Brzezinka was built in the mid 70’s I believe for the Theatre Laboratory’s use in it’s work. It is one building (and a broken water mill) that houses enough space (and more) for the 35 people who are here now, two large work spaces, a kitchen, two dining halls several storage spaces and of course, a three stall, two shower bathroom and washing machine. Oh, and mosquitos the size of my hand. Our schedule has been (loosely) as follows: 8:30 Warm-up session This typically consists of a run through the woods, lots of stretching and yoga like excercises. Also, weight sharing with partners and acrobatic partner work. Lots of ... read more
