Thanks Hi Kathy:
Thanks so much for sharing such a wonderfully composed blog, with great photos and your comments! If I'm lucky, I'll be able to do bits and pieces of travel to all the areas that you've covered. Many thanks.

back when we first met.... I remember some of these tales from when we first met in 1989 at 4 am while birdwatching from a dugout canoe in La Selva in Ecuador. Where have the years gone?? I'm back where I started from!!! much love, dear friends!!!
wonderful photos Hi you guys!! Thanks for sharing your Latvia impressions...I really got a sense of the city and will definitely include it in my much dreamt-of future (who knows when) eastern European travels....for now, though, it´s S. America (with a month in China this summer to lead a teacher training seminar!!)

Kia Ora from NZ Love reading your travel documentaries. We are recovering from a quiet Christmas Day in sunny weather. Went to the beach this morning about an hour away, for Rebecca to have a (short) swim. It was very windy and our picnic plates kept blowing off the table much to our amusement!
Wishing you all a happy holiday break,
The Mobberleys
Merry Christmas Good to hear from you....Been thinking of a Europe trip. I have a week off in mid-march or the last two weeks in June. Any openings for a few days? Laurel may be going to Japan in July, so she won't be taking vacation with us!
Hello there, gypsies! I'm sooo jealous! I love Germany -- even though my toes turn blue at the very thought of a German Christmas Market! Ahh!--but the Gluswein makes up for that, doesn't it?
Great that you visited Macki and Henk and saw Cockey! I miss them, too.
Bernie's cousin??????? This is an exchange student AND Bernie's cousin? I must have forgotten that Bernie was part Polish....one of my best friends, here in Truckee, Hania, is Polish and just ret'd from visiting her family with her 2-yr-old daughter. I bet she has heard of this young artist.
vitarose@yahoo.com Hi there,
Really enjoyed your blog. thanks for including me in your list of recipients.
I'm going to Ecuador on the 14th of December for mostly birding in ecolodges but do have time in Quito. The one problem with birding is that there is such limited contact with people in the country. Do you think that I might meet any of your friends, if only for breakfast, just to have a more human Ecuadorian experience? (Plenty of avian contacts.) I am fluent in Spanish, lived in Mexico for 2 years, so non English speaking is no obstacle.
Happy trails to both of you,
vita rose
Thanks Rick, you are right - waaaay too extensive notes, but it was our first extended trip outside the USA. I don't think even my closest family members will read it all, so am impressed you read it(!) but I think if one is a traveler, one is more interested in others travels. Happy Trails and Merry Christmas, Kathy
GREAT TRIP! Wow, you take very extensive notes...that I actually feel I am still there!!! I had the fortune to be present in Guatemala during holy week, and in ANTIGUA, of all places. What a spectacle, trully!!! We had a great time there, hotels and restaurants were great! we did have some problems with driving and shuttles, but a couple from Texas adviced us on Shuttle Guatemala, www.shuttleguatemala.com, and it worked perfectly. I would highly recommend it to anyone! anyways, glad to have a quick blast from the past!
ah, Guatemala memories! I was in Guatemala Xmas ´87!! So many memories come flooding back. I actually saw the street carpeted with flowers Easter 1990 in Cuzco! Kathy, you are so amazing how you use your current leisure time to relive and share past adventures. I have all of my old journals down here with me and am looking for a space of a month or two to dedicate to going back thru them. Love to you and SOOOOO sad I didn´t get to see you in Quito (boo hoo!)
So fun! Loved looking at the Summer '09 entry. We LOVED having Letty, Aixa and Melissa (and you two, of course). It was such a special visit. And it was a treat for me to see your photo of Vermont and the Berninghausens. Great to see pictures of the Tyrrells too. love,a
Are you sure? Are you sure that Carlos was an exchange student in (1990-91) jajaja so, he was 10 years old when he was in AK... Ok that 's correct!! jajajajajajajajaja It is always very cool to see your travelblog!!! Miss you... los quiero mucho!!! Carlos
Lovely Reminder of the Leiden times Can't believe that it is eight years ago already. Thanks for a great reminder (and happy new year of the Ox), cheers, Kate. .
February 2020. We are still in Tucson, Arizona, well, often anyway. We continue our wanderings and enjoying our adventures. We haven't lived outside the US in awhile, but have lived in: Guatemala, Ecuador, the Netherlands (twice), Germany (twice) and South Africa. We have now traveled to well over 100 countries, but that doesn't mean we plan on stopping any time soon. ... full info
