Kate and Gen!

hello

my name is Kate and I am backpacking with my friend Gen for a year. We are 18 year old girls who have deferred our university arts degrees for a year to explore the world and have a good time 😊

I left Australia in November 2011 and Gen left February 2012 to do separate work in Asia (volunteering at an orphanage and teacjing English) before meeting up for the Trans-Mongolian Railway from Beijing all the way to St Petersburg (21 day trip). We travelled through Mongolia, Siberia, China and Russia on this train, stopping along the way for little adventures (like wild horse riding in the Mongolian dessert and sleeping in Gher tents😊 We spent a month in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark afterwards and then flew over to Britain (Liverpool) to find us some jobs! For the past 4 months we have been working 5 jobs between us - Barmaids, Waitresses and Fundraisers. We found ourselves a house share with some great people and saved our earnings. "But now its time for me to go...the autumn moon lights my way...gotta ramble on" (courtesy of Led Zeppelin there). So now we dive into our next travelling adventure which is a Eurail ticket that lasts us 2 months from October to December. NOTE: were couch surfing our way there SO ADD US (Katie Rowbottom)! 😊

We love exploring new cities, meeting other travellers but especially learning about foreign cultures through the people who actually LIVE there.

So here we are guys! Our final week in Liverpool after spending a whole 4 months in one place. Fair effort from our point of view, as we seem to be getting into a wee bit of a habit lately of moving around every 4 or so days - difficult when you try and keep up with doing your washing. We have worked our butts off for a long time now and I can honestly say, yes, it is time for us to pull ourselves out of our comfort zones again and get back to our favourite way of life (NOTE: where the entirity of it is on your back). So this is us guys in blog form. It is through this that I can keep you updated on where we explore during the next 2 ... read more
