Woke up around 8AM and got ready for Eagle’s Nest. It's pretty cold here. The coldest it's been our entire trip. I've been wearing a light jacket most of the time, but I had to break out my North Face jacket. Our hotel room was okay - dated (everything is here) - we have great views of the mountain, Eagle’s Nest sits on and the small, but busy town. A small river runs right through the middle of it. We got free breakfast again - Breads, cheese, meats and scrambled eggs. Headed out to the train station to catch the bus for Eagle’s Nest. The ride up was really pretty. You are on ledge the entire way up. Once we got there we headed to the “brass” elevator. It took us to the “tea room”, which ... read more

We headed down to the pub last night to watch football and grab some dinner around 7PM. We started talking to another couple who were from Toronto and were also traveling through Europe. It was really nice to relax and talk with other people. We left around midnight. It was pouring rain with a lot of lightening when we walked out of the pub. Headed back to room took ½ an Ambien. Chris killed 4 decent size spiders before we climbed into bed. Hmm… maybe if we complain we can get a little of the extra $70 back we had to dish out?? Yeah, no such luck. We got up around 8AM the next morning and went down to the free breakfast. It was good - breads, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, etc. We headed out (still ... read more

We got a good night sleep last night (except for the alarm clock that went off at 4:50 AM that was set on the IPAD lol). We grabbed a croissant at the COOP (small market and much cheaper than bakeries) and headed to the train station. The train ride from Interlaken to Lucerne is suppose to be one of the prettiest train rides in Europe - it did not disappoint. We sat in the “Golden Pass Panoramic Car” - a must if you do this train ride! We both thought this was probably one of the most beautiful areas we have ever been to. The greens are amazing with the blue/green water. Random cows (with their bells on ) and sheep roaming about and huge waterfalls in the distance. Absolutely stunning!! There is no way the ... read more

We arrived into Interlaken around noon. This train ride was so beautiful! Our hotel was about a 10 minute walk away, not bad. We checked-in and headed out to explore. Interlaken is neat town, but seemed very touristy - and VERY pricey. We at in small café, had 2 cokes and split fish and chips and our bill was over $40. We expected it to be pricey! There was only one chocolate shop that was open and it too was pricey. Hoping Lucerne has more of a variety in chocolate shops! Chris found a castle in a town right before Interlaken called Speitz, so we decided to get back onto the train and head back there. It was only 10-15 minute train ride and since we bought a 5 Day Euro Pass, we can get on ... read more

We got up around 8:30AM. Chris headed out to the train station to exchange our tickets for an earlier train to Switzerland. We now leave on Saturday 6:30AM instead of 8:30AM Sunday. We got the Louvre around 10:30AM. Such an amazing place. We saw Mona Lisa (the only piece you couldn’t walk right up to, it was roped off with tons of people around it), Venus de Milo, Michelangelo (Captive Slave), a huge Sphinx, to name a few. The Prehistorical Greek antiques was closed off, which was a bummer, because that was one section we really wanted to visit. We called the girls around 4PM from the Louvre and then headed out, we were exhausted! We decided to head down to the Isle of St. Louis (a tiny island in the middle of the city), which ... read more

We ate dinner last night at place called Indiana Café. We had nachos and tacos!! They were pretty good too! I ordered a coca-cola light (didn’t make the same mistake by asking for Diet Coke). I repeated it twice, “Coca-Cola LIGHT”. She brought it out and Chris asked her, is that a Coca-Cola Light? She then throws her hands up and says, “I don’t know, I don’t understand”. WHAT?!?! I then say “I ordered a Coca-Cola Light”. She then takes my drink over to the bartender, who then throws a lemon and straw in it, brings it back over, slams it on the table and says “Here’s your Coca-Cola Light” and then makes a B****Y face and sound at me and walks away lol. I know, I know, so it’s not “light”. Who cares, right? But ... read more

September 8th 2010

We arrived last night around 9PM in Paris. The rail service was great, the food, not so much. Tried to use the restrooms at the train station, but I didn't have $.70 euros (about a buck?) on me since Chris had all the $$. We headed out to the taxis and on the way came across three soldiers with machine guns, yikes. A little unnerving. Taxi line was an hour wait, ugh! We had two 50-60ish Kiwis (New Zealanders) behind us that were alot of fun to talk with. One looked right out of the Rolling Stones and walked up and down the street playing his Pan flute. I was pretty nervous with all the shady people hanging around outside the train station. They ask you for cigarettes, money, anything. When we were in line for ... read more

Had a late dinner with Bob and Rich last night at a restaurant just down the street from our hotel called The Warwick. Originally we were suppose to eat at a restaurant called Polpo’s (Alpo Dog Food as Bob would call it lol), an Italian restaurant our concierge recommended (he is from Italy and said it was his favorite in the city). The place was packed and the waiter kept telling us “just waiting for a table to clear”, which seemed like forever. We ended up leaving heading over to the Warwick instead (knuckles, Bob  - we really didn’t want to eat there anyways lol). It rained pretty good that night. When we got back to the hotel Chris took ½ an ambien and I took a whole one, he was woozy within 10 minutes, ... read more
