Sanga Chatwam (May We Be One) Asia » India » Tamil Nadu » Chennai
Tonight at post-port I decided to tell some of my story from India. Post-port obviously takes place following a port and it is a time during which the shipboard community can go to share some of their stories and experiences from each port. Now I should have warned the audience that I am a terrible storyteller ahead of time so they could be prepared. I decided to get up and talk about my meditation retreat experience because it was so different from everyone else’s. While they saw a crazy India (don’t worry I saw that too), I found peace and relaxation [View Full Entry]

TIA (This is Africa) Africa » South Africa
South Africa is a place where you can go and do anything that you want to do. Are you thinking, okay, but I can do anything I want anywhere I am? Maybe, maybe not. What I mean is that in South Africa you can jump out of a plane, sightsee as a tourist, swim with sharks, shop in high-end designer stores, build a house in a township, cycle in the wine lands, go to a soccer game, listen to the obscure, but awesome click language, buy an Aston Martin (3rd largest market for AM), go to the opera, study an ancient [View Full Entry]

Akwaaba to Ghana Africa » Ghana » Greater Accra » Accra
Oh…my…gosh, get your shots, grab your malaria medication and get your butt to Ghana. After one day I have been put under a Ghanaian spell and I do not really want to come out of it (it saddens me to know there are only three days left). Forget every single thing you thought about Africa and prepare to be amazed, if not by the cities, towns, or wilderness, by the people. I love Spain, and I loved Morocco, but Ghana, man, I wish there were words. It is a fantastically energetic country with culture, great food, and more than friendly people. [View Full Entry]

Morocco Africa » Morocco » Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz » Marrakech
So my mom has been forwarding me my daily readings and I thought that you all might enjoy this one, or at least I feel like it is a good one for this blog since I am on a journey (not to say I am not always on a journey, but a specific journey). This is by Melody Beattie from Journey to the Heart, Part 2.
 “
Map your own journey.
Go on your own journey. Don't let others hold you back; don't hold them back. Don't judge their journey, and don't let them judge yours.

Bienvenidos a España Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Tarifa
I am in the midst of the preparatory stages for Morocco while also sitting in the reflection stages of Spain and I only have one day to complete both. It is taking everything I have to not pick up my travel book on Morocco and start getting ready, but I made a rule that I cannot move on to the next country until my last is complete. That means that the blog is finished, I have reviewed all the restaurants I ate at, recorded all my expenses and completed my notes. To be honest, I cannot believe that port number one [View Full Entry]

My Life on a Boat Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Cádiz
The ship is certainly rocking back and forth, back and forth, and you guessed it, back and forth. It is interesting though that after three or four days I don’t even notice it. I have not experienced seasickness in the slightest, just extreme drowsiness in my cabin and in classes (hence I take a lot of naps and nearly fall asleep in the boring classes). I also notice the rocking when I am trying to run on the treadmill; it has become a game really, I fight to stay on the treadmill because I keep getting thrown into the wall or [View Full Entry]

We were informed tonight that we are on a “ship,” not a boat and a “voyage,” not a cruise. So all of you will refer to my educational voyage as such from here on out, even though I fully expect it to have many similarities to a party boat/cruise. I am actually here, sitting on my bed, in my room, gently rocking back and forth in the waves (luckily no sea sickness yet) and listening to the sweet rumble of the engines (they are just below my room). Mimi, I am pretty sure you would request a room change! I am [View Full Entry]

Here We Go Again North America » Canada » Nova Scotia » Halifax
So here we are, the night before I leave on my four month journey around the world. Wow, I can't believe it is finally here. Packing went fairly smoothly (not too much fighting with Mom), although some of my small extras had to go to Jeremy's house to be packed by him. More than anything I am interested to see if my bags are under the 50 pound weight limit, normally one of my two when I travel is over by a few pounds. Also, don't forget how much I am going to have to pay to check my luggage; when [View Full Entry]

La Revuelta North America » Mexico » Puebla
So, first I have to thank my cousin Kevin for setting up wireless at Mimi’s house so that I can bring you this blog. I know this is late, but I promise it has been written, I just did not have Internet to update. I have asked my mom to write a guest blog about Cholula, Puebla, and Mexico City since I have already written on them. I thought it might be nice to get a second opinion on these places in Mexico. Before I add her section in I just want to say that we spent two weeks in Mexico, [View Full Entry]

Okay, so I am back in Mexico and I will shortly be updating all of you with what has been going on on this trip, but first I would like to post a blog I wrote a while ago about some of mi recuerdos de Cholula (my memories of Cholula). I am sitting on the plane on making my way back to the States and I just realized that this is the end of my Mexican adventures for some time. When we took off the sun was just rising over Malinche and it was beautifully clear; I had never noticed that [View Full Entry]
