We'd been waiting for our friends the Eury's to secure transportation so we could do some traveling together. Down to their last couple of weeks in town they decided to rent a car and we were off to the Caribbean coast on Wednesday, June 28th. Ahhhhh..... What a treat to return to Arenal this week. It wasn't exactly the trip that was originally planned but it was an awesome adventure. We had planned to visit Arenal with the Eury family. Their car wasn't out of the shop yet so the timing wasn't right for them. We'd already packed and cooked for the trip so we went anyway. We're all glad we did! The Butterfly Conservatory near Arenal Volcano was an unexpected treat early in the morning during our visit to the volcano. We woke early and went for a drive around the lake ending up in a little area called El Castillo. We’d parked in front of the butterfly conservatory to let Bear get out for a walk when the gentleman working inside came out and offered to let us in for a tour. Just what is a typical day? A friend recently asked about our typical days. I had to think long and hard about this one. I talked to Bill and Callista, the consensus is we do not have typical days. We wake up when our bodies tell us to, eat a good healthy breakfast (ok, sometimes more good than healthy) and start our day. That’s where typical ends. There are days we ‘have to’ do things. Friday we drove into Pavas for a plan making visit with The Eury family and to watch Maritza sing at the university. We live near the UCR western campus in San Ramon so we were excited to get to check out the big campus. The musical school was having exhibitions thru out the day to showcase their work. We got Maritza there on time and enjoyed the orchestra prior to her performance. Bill was fascinated by the fagot or bassoon players that followed the adult choir. I liked their instruments. No one likes to go to the dentist, least of all me. In my twenties I lacked dental insurance so dental care was non-existent. I was young and invincible. No need for dentists, I’m sure I went but for the life of me can’t remember who I saw in which state. The twenties were fluid years for me. I improved my dental care in my thirties but apparently not enough. I’m now paying for it in my forties. A little advice to those younger than I…FLOSS! It will save you much pain later. The Eury’s visit began on May 31st and will last for six weeks. They, Wayne, Cristina, Sofia, Alex and Isabella are friends of ours from Arizona who are staying with Cristina’s father while in Costa Rica. Callista and Sofia were classmates at Desert Marigold, a Waldorf methods school in third grade. It was in conversations with friends at the school that the seed was planted for moving to Costa Rica. We’ve been anxious to travel again as we haven’t since our car trouble a month ago. Normal life caught up with us and we’ve been busy taking care of dental work and moving forward with things on the property. With our daughter’s guest Sophia visiting we decided to have a day of adventure. Wednesday was a rainy day so the girls got reacquainted playing all day in Callista’s room. Hola! The property really feels like it is our's now. Yesterday, Wednesday, was the first time we spent the entire day on the property. We were there from 7a.m. to 5:30p.m. What an exhausting, wonderful, exciting day. Our blood, sweat and tears are now part of the land. We hired a back hoe and dump truck to deliver 50 loads of rock and dirt to the property to begin leveling the mountain for the house and yard. While memorial day is traditionally a day for remembering those who've passed, today I'm remembering those we left in the states. Now that we have internet in the house I spent many hours browsing thru photos on the computer and uploading many onto our webshots site.
