Il est Julien, je suis Mélanie. Deux étudiants francophones de l’est du Canada. Nous sommes partis pour plusieurs mois : Thaïlande pour deux semaines, et puis Japon.
Après avoir graduellement perdu l’intérêt d’écrire de gros textes dans mes anciens blogs de voyages (on s’en fout du 114e palais doré que je suis allé voir, pour ça les photos suffisent), j’ai eu l’idée d’offrir aux lecteurs nos impressions et réflexions diverses sur les places que nous visitons. Quelques chose qui se veut plus « anthropologique », mais sans prétention. Nous essaierons seulement d’être intelligents et respectueux dans nos commentaires.
Nous voulons aussi plaire aux usagers des deux langues française et anglaise, donc Mélanie écrira en français tandis que Julien écrira en anglais. Attention: les deux parties ne sont pas les mêmes! Il s'agit de nos interprétations et commentaires à chacun, mais sur la même période de notre voyage. Nous espérons que vous aimerez :)

She’s Melanie, I’m Julien. Two French speaking students from eastern Canada. We’re gone for many months: Thailand for two weeks, then Japan.
We decided to offer our impressions and comments about places we go. Something more “anthropological”, but without any pretention. We’ll only try to be intelligent and respectful in our comments.
As we want to please both our English and French readers, Melanie will write in French while Julien will do so in English. Note: the texts are not only a translation, they are our own interpretation and comments about the same part of our travel. We hope you'll enjoy!

...it’s also hope, overwhelming problems, determination, love, and lingering frustrations. All mixed together. Because some days it’s more of one feeling, and the next, it’s more of another. Everybody has to cling on something to not feel disouraged. When you pass by one of the too numerous mountains of garbage or cars or tires, the ones they still don’t know where they’ll get rid of, you can’t help but feel a bit hopeless. There are so many things here that you can’t do anything about just with your two arms and spirit. But. There is such a good energy, such love coming from all these people going through this all together, waking up every morning to do what is possible for them to do. La version française suit. Coming and going we forget how time flies. Not too long ago I was working on a mushroom farm. Now I am in Osaka working part time teaching English to Japanese children (with song and dance of all things). Our hosts were really kind to us and we will miss them greatly. Looking back at the three weeks I spent at the Iisaka residence it seems almost like a dream. It seems like a dream because it’s like we stepped in and out of a different world that I now keep only in memory. It was more than a glimpse into the lives of others. English follows Nous sommes au Japon depuis un peu plus de deux semaines. Nous les avons passé à Tokyo principalement. En tout et partout on a fait les touristes. On est entre autres allé au Musée National de Tokyo, que je recommande à tout le monde qui passe à Tokyo. C’est juste génial, on y est resté pendant cinq heures. Je dois avoir pris au moins 100 photos de la section archéologie. On était pour la première semaine dans un Guest House éloigné du centre-ville et ça nous coûtait 10$ aller-retour juste pour s’y rendre en train. Alors même si ça vous coûtait quelques dollars de plus pour un dormitoire en centre-ville, on a fait le déménagement. Koh Tao Although Koh Tao shares many characteristics with Florida/Cuba like resort locations, this island (which has been dubbed Thailand’s Mecca of diving) has maintained an informal charm that distinguishes it from the artificialities that some see in “all-included” vacation spots (same but different!). In spite that almost all economic activity on the island revolves around the tourism industry, Koh Tao imparts a sense of freedom and spontaneity that makes it feel almost like a commune. Many of the smaller bungalow resorts on Koh Tao are built in harmony with the natural environment. They meld with the stony shores or use bamboo and straw to fit with palm trees and the surrounding foliage. English follows Y’a la Thaïlande, le pays avec ses habitants, ses rues, ses façons de vivre, de manger, d’éduquer ses enfants, ses manières d’interagir avec ses compagnons. Et y’a la Thaï-land, avec sa façade de pays exotique, la seule qui puisse être aperçue par les touristes, du moins pour les touristes-touristes. Je dois admettre ici, même si je déteste ça, que c’est ce que nous sommes : des touristes. Il faut accepter notre rôle, car qu’on le veuille ou non, nous sommes pour la plupart des gens venus d’ailleurs pour visiter les beaux palais, prendre des photos, manger « local » et repartir.
