Ahhh, its been a long time...where do I start? Ok..well..we didnt get stung by scorpions in Maumere, thats a good thing. We left the island of Flores on the 19th of July, we caught a bus going to Larantuka, went to the harbour and left on the boat not too long after headed east for the island of Lembata. It was a beautiful boat trip and only about 3 hours long, so not long enough to get bored. When we got off the boat in the quaint little dusty town of Lewoleba. That night was a bizarre one, not much sleeping [View Full Entry]

Flores-Part one Asia » Indonesia » Flores
Sengiggi, it sure is crazy. After the hardship of Rinjani it actually was very nice to spend a few days in this weird deserted asian muslim version of Acapulco. We spent 5 days there eating mediocre banana pancakes, watching Indonesian soaps, saying no thank you to rupiah starved salesman and enjoying the cheapest happy hour( or "crazy time" as it is known here) that we have encountered on our travels. We also spent a lot of time on the old Inet and someone called me Elton John-Harry-Potter. Pretty acurate i would say. After 5 days, Sengiggi had given us the [View Full Entry]

SO...first i have to apologize for the lack of gusto in this entry, since im not quite feeling 100%, i got a bit sick after the trek (dirty mountain food, dodgy organizer..i should have heard the alarm bells ringing when we saw a dead bird in the organizers restaurant the day before....hmmmm...) we started the trek, all six of us, monday morning, from the little town of senaru. we bought the trip from an organizer, named Harry, that we were told about while we were in the Gili Islands through someone else, through someone else, through someone else...thats how it works [View Full Entry]

The public ferry to Lombok is a very interesting thing indeed. There we were, the 67 of us, packed into the ferry amongst the locals who were, as always, smoking like a bunch of little chimneys. Next to where we were sitting in the boat there were rows upon rows of huge communal mattresses. Indonesians, as Guillaumes described in the previous blog, have this amazing skills of being able to fall asleep anywhere at any time..its remarkable really. So we watched as they loaded up onto these mattresses, snuggled up with the stranger next to them, and slipped into a peaceful [View Full Entry]

Bali and Buddies. Asia » Indonesia » Bali
With New York and our friend Gianni's antics fimly behind us, we set forth for Bali, Indonesia. Out itinerary had us going from New York-Alaska-Taiwan-Bali. We made the most of our stop overs by amusing ourselves with the zainy products that we found in the various airport giftshops. The Anchorage giftshop won the cake in the hilarious souvenirs category; whiskey bottles as big as midgets, boxes that contained a lifetimes worth of cigarettes, game meat that had been transformed into strange snacks, fur hats that made Jenny look like a Russian spy, slippers made of bear parts, and frozen salm [View Full Entry]

Keeping it tight...
Stuck

So, after much anticipation, packing, goodbye partying, and then 12.5 hours on the train... we finally made it to... NEW YORK, NEW YORK!!!! (you have to sing it to have the full effect) It was a lovely train ride, nice and slow....perfect for sleeping. We arrived at Penn Station kind of late, around 10 and decided to just take the subway to get to our destination. Guillaumes friend, Gianni and his girlfriend Erica, live in New York and they so kindly invited us to stay with them. It took a while to figure out how to get INTO the subway and [View Full Entry]
