Goodbye Leaving our lovely apartment in Montreal, and heading out for an amazing adventure.
So, after much anticipation, packing, goodbye partying, and then 12.5 hours on the train...
we finally made it to...
NEW YORK, NEW YORK!!!! (you have to sing it to have the full effect)
It was a lovely train ride, nice and slow....perfect for sleeping.
We arrived at Penn Station kind of late, around 10 and decided to just take the subway to get to our destination.
Guillaumes friend, Gianni and his girlfriend Erica, live in New York and they so kindly invited us to stay with them.
It took a while to figure out how to get INTO the subway and wasted a few bucks trying to do so,
and then trying to figure out which way to go wasnt so easy either.
Lucky for us superman helped us find our way.
Im serious.
Guillaume was looking at the map with a very confused look...and then low and behold....
There was a handsome, burly man, wearing a superman t-shirt who walked over to Guillaume and he pointed us in the right direction.
When we showed up at their teeny New York apartment, they already had a few bottles of wine waiting there for us. Nice welcome.
The next day we got
Train FunTrying to get some sleep on the train...or just being plain silly?
up and found a street festival on 2nd street that seemed to go on forever and ever...we just kept walking, and the festival was always there.
Sort of like in the Flintstones, when they walk and the background just sort of loops and is always the same.
Thats what we felt like.
That night we drank a bit more wine with Erica, while Gianni was at work. Then when we were feeling nice and tipsy it was time to go out for dinner.
We found a lovely little mexican restaurant that had a special on margaritas...we were sold.
After that we went to meet Gianni and his friends from work at a bar across the street.
Thats where we were introduced to a little thing called the Irish Car Bomb...
i wont let out the secret ingredients....but it was one hell of a drink....
Giannis ears were peeled,
and we were all doomed if anyone said a word that even remotely sounded like
CAR or BOMB
or even any word, for that matter....
"ROUND OF CAR BOMBS!!!!"
Noooooooooooo!!!
We got back to Giannis apartment and completely crashed
and didnt wake up until very late the next day, with MASSIVE hangovers...all
Deep Fried WHAT?!?!?If you cant read the sign....
DEEP-FRIED OREOS!!
no..we didnt have the guts to try them...
three of us.
But we did manage to do a bit of sight seeing after a massive breakfast and more sleeping.
Gianni took us through Central Park and then onto Times Square where we think we saw a dead guy on the sidewalk.
We went to a great Indian restaurant, called Dawat, for dinner that night and feasted.
The next day we felt great and did some more walking around, because thats just a fun thing to do in New York City.
We walked through the East Village, West Village, Soho, meat packing and who knows where else.
It was great. New York has so many things to see.
I ate the BEST sandwich of my life at a little deli called Vesuvios.
When the afternoon was ending and the evening was coming around, we made our way back to Gianni's apartment and packed up our bags...
our short visit to New York was through....
it was time to start the next part of the journey....
onwards..to Indonesia....
Times SquareDoing the very predicable touristy thing...striking a pose at times square.
AndLovely us, also.
