After two long months of being apart, Guillaume and I had been planning a wonderful getaway to the southern island of Phu Quoc. We thought it would be the perfect setting for us to catch up and spend some much needed time together. Being quite popular with resort style tourism, and us being quite non-resort style tourists, we managed to find ourselves a small, brand new family run guesthouse. We got ourselves a really comfortable, clean room for a steal of a deal. The location was great too, a mere 5 minute walk from the beach and a 5 minute motorbike ride to the town. We were sure that our 10 days there would be relaxing and smooth. On our first day in Phu Quoc we rented a motorbike to drive around and explore the island ... read more

Sounds romantic, doesn't it? Well it sure was. I had made sure to give myself a bit of time before Guillaume would be coming to meet me in Saigon to prepare myself mentally. Lucky for me, the flight was fantastic (well done, Turkish Airlines) and went by quickly and comfortably. I was a wee bit nervous to arrive in Saigon all alone, since I usually have my partner in crime by my side. But I feel that I managed nicely. Found an honest taixi (not always easy) and even though I was still on my guard I found a way to relax and even offer a small peace offering throat lozenge to the driver who was hacking away the whole way to the hotel. I was so absoutely thrilled that all had gone so well up ... read more

It took a long time to finally arrive at this day. Day of Departure. So much emotion was poured into this ONE date on the calendar. And the same thing happens every time that we leave for a trip. We put so much thought, energy and emtion into getting ready to leave that once we do actually leave our home this HUGE sense of relief rushes over us and we end up being totally exhausted physically and mentally. And it was the first time that I went through that alone. I was just so happy to be on that plane, on my way. A big shout out to my friends who helped me through all of it and were with me til the very last minute. I had planned just under three days to stop over ... read more

Yes, I KNOW that we've been gone for over two months now and that all of you kind blog-followers have been waiting to hear some news from us. Would you forigve us if we told you that we've been having the BEST TIME EVER!?! Im pretty sure that you would. We've even got some HARD evidence to back ourselves up. Vietnam has truly swept us off of our feet, in every sense. Of all the countries that we have previously visited, Vietnam seems to have everything we could hope for (as travellers and lovers of South-East Asia) all wrapped up like a deep-fried Nem ready to go. The time we spent in Vietnam was nothing but PURE enjoyment of life. Truly. Nearly truly. The experiences we shared and the places we saw were all filled with ... read more

Thats pretty much all that was going on for us in Fort Kochin. We stayed in a cute little guesthouse in a cute little lane. It was a cute little room for a cute little price. But the cute little mamma who ran the place somehow forgot to mention to us that because of the cute little window in the room...THAT WE WERE GONNA BE COOKED ALIVE. We have NEVER been that hot in our lives. We were truly in a a desperate situation. The days were bleeding hot, walking around, in the sun, coming back to our room, our clothes dripping wet with sweat, taking a shower in the water that was SCORCHING hot since the water tank was ONTOP of the house being boiled by the sun. And then coming home after dinner to ... read more

Our first destination, sans Jasmine. It was hard to go on but we had to, for the memory of the team!! Yes, yes, it was brief encounter, our visit in Allepey. I do believe that we only stayed two nights. The main attraction is the "backwaters boat rides". There is a system of beautiful and calm canals and rivers that run throughout the countryside. And tourists have been MAJORLY taken care of here as there are hundreds of fantastically gorgeous house boats meant for cruising through the waters on multiple night excursions. With as many or as little amenities you desire. There is a full kitchen and staff ready to serve you anything you need on the boat. You choose the boat you want and you pay the price. You can share with other travellers, as ... read more

And so it was, the last stop on our fabulous journey with our beloved friend Jasmine. After Kannur we would be parting ways. Jasmine was on her way out of the country, infact. And we would be carrying on further south. We thought that Kannur would be a great place to end things off as it is famous for the traditional Hindu Theyyam ritual. We were really interested to check it out. It is, supposedly, performed every night either in Kannur or just outside of it. And it turned out that there was a temple RIGHT next to our hotel that was having a weekend Theyyam-a-thon. We were REALLY lucky for that one. Though, things turned out to be different than planned (as it usually is in life) but that just made it THAT much better. ... read more

What a fabulous little Garden of Eden that we found ourselves in. Oh boy. We surely enjoyed our time spent at the Honey Valley Estate. Not the easiest place to get to, but definately not the hardest either. Just a few bus transfers, a bit of waiting around in random small towns and then finally waiting at the junction at the bottom of the hill for the Honey Vally jeep to pick us up. Once we got there we knew that it was all most definately worth it. The owners, husband and wife team, are the most welcoming hosts you could imagine and made us feel very comfortable very quickly. The surrounding area is covered in coffee plantations soread out over large, green, rolling hills. The amount of greenery in the area is completely astounding coming ... read more

Yes, its true. And we were definately interested. So we went to Bylakuppe, not so far from Mysore. It's a bit of land that the Indian government gave to Tibetan exiles in 1959. Its an incredibly interesting place to visit and unfortunately we coudn't stay for very long. The village requires any tourist wishing to stay longer than 24 hours to have a permit. That we didn't have. So we arrived in the afternoon, a bit pooped from the trip there, and we relaxed oh-so much in the afternoon (wasn't it relaxing to have me do some henna on you, Jasmine?) and watched some movies on Jasmines laptop in our hotel room. It's such a quiet place and very relaxing, just full of monks and other people trying to be quite for the monks. It was ... read more

We liked Mysore, we really did. It's just unfortunate, the events that transpired during our visit. First and formost, we took a night train from Hampi to Bangalore. It was a most pleasant ride and seemed to pass in a jiffy. Lovely. Though, obviously, it wasn't a very deep or restful sleep. When we arrived in Bangalore at 6am we were a bit tired, but needed to find a bus to get to Mysore, since we weren't planning on sticking around. It wasn't hard to find a bus, almost every bus in the lot seemed to be going to Mysore. The ride took longer than expected (around four hours) when we thought it would be two hours, so we were more than ready to get off. We had a hotel in mind when we arrived in ... read more
