Day 4 of the holiday . Market day in St Tropez. Cogolin very quiet . Having arrived yesterday we were hit with monsoon like rain which soon soaked everything in the garden . If there is something good about being in the South of France the slabs soon dried off. The thunder banged overhead and the lightening brightened up what had once been a blue sky. The swimming pool looked inviting as the raindrops fell. The owner had sensibly taken off all the covers from the sun loungers and left them in the small shed on site to be brought out when the weather was better . Which it is today. We have been slowly finding our way round the house. Two bathrooms with wet areas for the shower and a bath in one. Three toilets ... read more

Day 2 Sunday . A fitfull night sleep. The neighbours with their many children rocked up after dark. The children were like feral animals running up and down the corridors screaming and shouting . Doors were opening and slamming . The parents may have made a feeble attempt at shutting the children up but they seemed to fail miserably. Until such time as an angry voice rang out. I really don't know if it were a parent who had had enough of the appalling behaviour or it was another guest . We heard loud voices telling the children to be quiet, to stop shouting and stop being disrespectful . That put paid to the shouting and running about but then the TV went on. Rather loudly at first but that did not last long . Eventually ... read more

Goodmorning - It is early and I am lying in bed still feel rough from my recent infection . Another one . The third in three months . 2023 has not been a good one for health . Just small niggling infections, lots of coughing , sore throats and feeling under the weather . No swimming this week nor any walking . Hopefully the driver won't succomb to it this week or next or we could be in trouble . Thursday - preparations under way. Clothes packed, unpacked, checked and packed again . Tablets and medicines all put in boxes . Large suitcases in the boot of the car with no name . Preparations are slow for me with the infection leaving me thoroughly under the weather . The mood for a holiday has gone on ... read more

Somehow this week has been an old one . The weather is still somewhat cool for the time of year but when the sun does break through it can be pleasant and Springlike . Everywhere seems to bursting out in green . The trees that last week looked dead have burst into life . The hedgerows are full of the scent of onions as the Wild Garlic blossoms and the Bluebells carpet the woods in a haze of blue . We are trying to get out despite having yet another infection . A week of coughing, spluttering, sleepless nights and feeling under the weather . We have a holiday to sort out so no time to wallow in misery. According to a Japanese proverb "Trying to do two things at once will make you fail at ... read more

Gabby the motorhome - the car with no name was parked up on a rather full car park at Dudmaston Hall. We had decided to come out and drive one hour and fifteen minutes to see the hall owned by the National Trust and the galleries which were full of what I misread as Mattise paintings and Moore sculptures . We had taken a lot longer than one hour and fifteen minutes to get her as the car with no name was running on petrol fumes and we needed to call into a local garage to fill him up otherwise we were going nowhere . We also had to put in a little side trip to drop a birthday card off for daughter as her birthday falls whilst we on holiday . When we arrived after ... read more

The Buddha had this saying and it goes something like this " Just as a candle cannot burn without fire , men cannot live without a spiritual life " I found myself playing with words again . Changing a spiritual life to a travelling life . I wondered now with Gabby if I considered myself a holidaymaker, a tourist , a traveller or something else . Moving from place to place like a nomad had always left me feeling more a traveller. The new holiday regime this year was something of a strange one . What would we make of our first holiday back in hotels and in someone elses property for a week ? How would we feel staying in one place for a week ? Travelling back and forth down the same roads . ... read more

This mornings offering on the calendar was a message from the Buddha and it set off conversation for the day. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought". We were going to brave the cold and wet weather and head off for Broseley . Close to the Ironbridge Gorge the small village houses Benthall Hall a National Trust property . We had to go today as it only opened Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays . The hall has no restaurant just a shepards hut which sold coffee and cakes . So the plans had to revolve around how far it was, what was nearby in terms of eateries and how to work the two in without massive detours around Shropshire . In the end it was relatively easy to find a solution . ... read more

Well since the last trip out to the Ironworks to meet up with Woolly Mammoth, Alfie and carer Jo I have heard nothing but complaints from the sheep. " Well you did forget me last time and I cannot forgive you for that " True I could not deny it . I had indeed left Sion at home whilst I set off to Oswestry to catch up with Jo. I suppose I was never going to be forgiven despite offers of copious pistachio nuts , nut chocolate or visits to the seaside . It was never going to be good enough ." No bribery won't work . Most dark nights we look up to the night sky. We sometimes see the stars in the heavens and many nights we see the moon hanging there in dark space. Perhaps we are so used to looking at the same stars that we take the night sky for granted . I guess we look up at the moon and marvel at it as it changes shape throughout the season . We look at its surface and can at times see features that are millions of miles away. But we never consider the distance between us and the planets nor do we often think of ourselves floating in the same way as the moon does. Why is it that we don't see ourselves and our planet in the same way ? I have often asked myself that ... read more

Well Well what an odd experience . I had seen a photograph this morning of an empty sad looking town/city centre. I wondered if perhaps so early the shoppers decided not to come in and pay parking fees . If they waited until 11 am the parking was free. And of course the workers who did not work would not fill the spaces in the car parks and there would be plenty of for shoppers. And day visitors if we get such a thing. We left home at the usual time of 12.15 . Being creatures of habit we liked to go into Wrexham early, park up in Glyndwr University Car park before it filled up and pick up the pre-match burger and cup of coffee. We paid up our £3 to park and left my ... read more
