A snippet of wisdom from my daily dose of Eastern philosophy today told me that "The more I know , the less I need " I am definately sure I don't agree with one word of that. For me the more I know the more I want to know. It is never too late to stop learning or seeing things. Whether that is at home in the locality or further afield . When you think you know enough then it is rather a sad time . I wonder if what I have just written reminds you of the film Short Circuit where Robot number 5 also known as Johnnie 5 gains intelligence and demands input. I wake up each morning and need input. Whatever that input will be depends on so many things. Today it was ... read more

It was hard walking today not to think a lot as I walked . I had headed out of the village . The proposed Christmas scarecrow competition had died a death. The Village Hall Committee had ditched the treasure hunt this year and opted for a film themed scarecrow competition . However, either all the villagers forgot about it or could not be bothered . There were decorations on some houses. Christmas wreaths of holly and ivy on doors. Lights hanging from some of the houses, dangling in the wind. Trees draped with lights. It did not seem like Christmas much this year . The soldiers outside the Buck were missing . I guess that had something to do with the pub going bust again . The staff and the bills unpaid . The new tenants ... read more

Sion had been looking forward to going out today . It had been difficult to keep him happy when he was counting down the days hours until he met his best friend Woolly Mammoth . It had been a little difficult at this time of year to find somewhere that it is happy to accomodate a mammoth, a sheep and a dog and two humans. But The British Ironworks Centre came up trumps again as they allow dogs and we knew we could get a meal there quite easily . So plans were made . "Have you got me a woolly jumper, a woolly coat , my scarf and hat ?" Well I had to explain to Sion that once again sadly I had slipped up and not got round to getting him his winter clothing ... read more

Did Covid change the world ? Yes I think it did . Volunteers have dropped off volunteering since the pandemic. Many historical properties can no longer open their doors each and every week through the season. Some have closed for good as visitors stopped calling. Numbers have not returned to pre-pandemic levels . Perhaps we never should have shut down and just carried on. Things might have been very different . Today was one of those examples of places that were thriving pre- Covid but now is a pale shadow of its former self. We left Port Sunlight village after looking quickly at the museum . £16 entrance fee for both of us seemed a touch steep. We got into the car with no name and headed further up the Wirral. To our left the hills ... read more

Where shall we go today? How about a museum/an art gallery and a model village all rolled into one. It will be a warm space , interesting things to see with a cafe for lunch . What is there not to like ? It became one of those ideas that turned out rather well in the end. You know the sort of trips you think about doing but put off time and time again. We pulled out our extra warm coats, a scarf, a pair of gloves and a hat and set out in the car with no name . The weather had turned extremely wet some days yet on others it was surprisingly cold with overnight frosts and chilly air . We were heading 45 minutes up the road towards Port Sunlight on the Wirral ... read more

There was once an excellent comedian named Jasper Carrott . Jasper came from the Midlands and toured around the country on the comedy circuit . He visited towns here and there talking about his town of Dudley which he pronounced in a black country accent and made fun of anything and everything . Those were the days before woke made it difficult to make fun of anything without offending . He raised a laugh when he shouted out that the inhabitants of Mold were unfortunate living in a place called Mould . Who would want to live in a place called Mould ? Sadly of course Mold sounds like Mould so it invited the joke from him . Laughing at yourself is an art we have sadly lost . Actually Mold is a nice place to ... read more

Being on your own when walking gives you chance to remember things or ponder on them. The thought for the day was one from I think the Dalai Lama who suggested perhaps wisely that an eye for eye ended up with blindness . That was going round and round my head as it was counter intuitive from the Biblical idea of an eye for an eye. It was not revenge but something that was in the end a useless idea at times. My friend had popped something in the window for me to see and ponder upon . She knew I would be passing by . Todays message read Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Set out like an opticians reading chart. My walk feels all the better for seeing messages left for me . ... read more

I don't mind a trip to Shrewsbury now and again . It feels that there is always something to do and something new to see . I know eventually I will run out of small alleyways to explore , the museum will have nothing new to see but at the moment I still have a list of things to do . Places to see and things to tick of that list that makes up the county town of Shrewsbury . Today was going to be no different . I was not sure how long I would have to waste . Today was just a small service for the car . A biennual change of brake fluid which should take only an hour or so . The garage would do a car Health check and send me ... read more

There was not much going on to be honest. The weather has turned distinctly rainy nearly every single day. And Autumnal too. We wake up and hope for a dry day but it seems that it never comes . We all feel happier when the sun shines. With Autumn rumbling along we are all looking forward to Spring and better weather . We should really be grateful for what we have but we are always feeling extremely ungrateful when we look up to the overcast grey sky. Happiness is not something ready made . It comes from your own actions . The Dalai Lama uttered those words and as I walked I sent that thought through my head in an attempt to agree. Being happy is not a given. You have to work towards it. Sometimes ... read more

Sion did not sleep well last night . Before turning in he had got ready for his trip to Blists Hill Victorian Town. He had helped me set up the sav nav for the journey and was looking forward to seeing his best friend Woolly Mammoth. I had been to Blists Hill a number of times . The first in the early 1980's when the site was in its infancy . I don't remember much about it apart from it being on a hillside site with many industrial brick buildings . Sion had been to Blists Hill a few years ago when Suzy the motorhome required some work to Kathrein the satellite dish . I am sure we were driven there by the guy who repaired the dish and he gave us two complimentary tickets "Have ... read more
