It is Week 17 of 2021 already. We have slipped quietly through a miserable January of floods and snow . February a cold a dismal month and then March with the feeling of Spring in the air. April with its inclement weather and now May. The fifth month of the year . As I walk I feel that the months have become very blurred as they run seamlessly from one to the next without me even noticing . Is that because of Covid when all days and months have felt the same ? I am not sure . I feel that sort of sense of frustration that the first four months of the year have felt wasted. No trips out and not much sign of changes . Although there are changes . As with the seasons ... read more

"So what is your favourite garden then ?" I asked . The reply from the driver about the best garden he had ever seen was exactly the same as the one that was going round my head . "Ninfa" Glenn said. "Yes I agree " Our memory of our day in the Italian garden of Ninfa remained long in the memory. The sun had been shining and we had wandered around the beautiful garden . There was none like it . We had never seen one so awe inspiring and we picked the best time of the year to see it . Not too hot , Spring when all the flowers were in full swing. " Villa D'Este was good " I said . "but not as beautiful as Ninfa" "Anything in this country ?" We ... read more

Week 17 of 2021. Day 409 of Lockdown - one more week left before April ends and May begins. Feeling fed up with walking locally I got up this morning with the intention of suggesting to the driver that he might like to run me up to Marchwiel. The idea would be that I would have a wander around a different village , a different church and churchyard and have a slightly different walk home . It was sunny and the sun was breaking through the clouds that looked liked streaky bacon. I was dropped off in Marchwiel . Did you know that there is a Marchwiel in New Zealand ? No that is a fact that had passed me by too. Its seems the story goes that in the year 1879 the Marchwiel estate was ... read more

Whenever I end up in Wrexham I find myself using the word old . I guess that is because all my memories of the town are old ones. Ones that developed as a child and a schoolgirl . It was Day 407 of lockdown if you start to count from where I started counting . The spring weather was lovely. The trip into town was pleasant . I was in search of other parts of the town that I had missed on previous visits . Car parking was still free after 11am but cost £1 for an hour before 11. The town was deserted as it had been virtually every time I drove in and walked around. It takes about an hour to walk round the town and most of the walk is on the flat ... read more

"Are we there yet ?" Those words mean one thing to me . Sion knows he is off to meet his best friend Woolly. This meeting has been on the agenda for quite a few weeks . " Yes I knew that - I had been checking t he computer and had read that we were going to meet up. That would be me , my best friend Woolly Mammoth and his carer Jo" And there was me thinking I was keeping it secret . The best kept secret blown wide apart due to Sion peeking at the computer and working out what was happening . Of course Sion knowing what was afoot meant that for weeks he kept asking me if we were there yet , what he was going to wear and where we ... read more

Today was a day of change . The first day that we had the opportunity to drive across the border from Wales into England . The sun was shining it felt a little as if we were on holiday. We headed over the border and arrived in the small village of Calverhall and a walk with my daughter . I was looking foward to that walk . . It would make a change to walk somewhere different to Wingerworth or Bangor on Dee. It would be good to walk with someone rather than walk alone. We set off from Calverhall . A small rural village with an ancient history going back to the Domesday book. We walked past the Old Jack Pub and headed towards the village library which was housed inside a lyche gate . ... read more

It's April and I find myself looking back at last years blogs . I was asking myself then if Covid would be around for two years. I was describing Wingerworth to you. I was exploring its nooks and crannies and I should have been heading for Scandanavia . What has a year brought me to ? I woke up with the word old running round and round my head. Like an earworm it seemed to pop up everytime I opened my mouth . I was reading old blogs comparing last years weather with what we were experiencing now. We should have been heading down to Canterbury for an overnight stop before heading to France for a well deserved holiday . Somehow this April seemed exactly the same as last April . The only difference this was ... read more

Days 385,386,387 and 388 . I find myself as I walk as always thinking . Thinking back to last year . In a Steve Wright in the afternoon way I found myself thinking about what I was doing last year, the year before and the previous few years. So what was I doing this time last year? Not a lot. Special leave from work plus one week holiday when we could not go anywhere. It was not Easter this time last year . It was the weekend which included Palm Sunday . Easter would be a week later . Last year like this year we were going through a lovely Spring. A Spring of fantastic weather , sunshine , walking , sitting in the garden drinking wine. Well with time on our hands we had to ... read more

Looking back . That is something we seem to do a lot at the start of a year. We perhaps do it less as the year progresses. If you keep a diary you can look back at this time last year and see what you were doing and be reminded of what you were thinking. I don't keep a diary so the blog has to suffice. It comes in handy to be able to pick a date from a year ago and see exactly where I was walking , who I saw and what I thought . My thoughts were all over Covid. The same as everyone at the same time I guess. Covid was on the news. It was being rammed down our throats at every broadcast and Boris appeared almost nightly dealing out a ... read more

Today was going to be a special day. We were heading out to pick up our girl Gabby and go out for a ride in her. The first real trip out since last September when we took her to Northumbria. The sun was shining . It was the warmest March day for years. Gabby was locked away in her home for the winter. We felt a sense of real pleasure to be free to travel . Even if this was only in Wales . We felt pleased to be able to put the code into the lock on the gate and open up the gate. Gabby had lain forlorn for so long. We opened her up and stood inside her. The first thing I tried was the control for the lithium battery . The engine battery ... read more
