Day 500 and counting since lockdown started for us . Who would have thought we would have to suffer such restrictions on life and travel for such a long time . I got out early this morning for a constitutional walk along the riverbank. It pays to get out early. It is high Summer in the UK and the weather is sweltering. Sunny from early morn to late evening . That oppressive heat we seem to suffer where it is uncomfortable to be outside and thunder storms are just around the corner . I walked my reverse walk this morning dropping the prescriptions into the box outside the dispensary on my way. The church clock struck 7.45. It is out of sync by a few minutes to my time piece . The village was quiet as ... read more

Ziggy the car found herself sitting on the promenade in Llandudno. The sun was shining down on us and it was a lovely day . We were eating icecreams . I had just walked over to the small shedlike shop on the beach and stood in the queue waiting to buy an icecream . That is what you do at the seaside . Covid restrictions were in place but I did not know what they were . I queued at one window which turned out to be the one where the icecreams were dispensed once you had purchased them from another window . Chocolate Chips and Vanilla what more could we want ? There is something about the seaside that is fascinating . . Watching the colours of the sea which reflected the grey of the ... read more

Week 26 - that is halfway through 2021. Day 482. In 26 weeks time we have been through Christmas and will be in the bit between Christmas and New Year . Not a thought I relish . Odd how the year is just drifting away and we are not even noticing . It us an awful thought that we are ticking the months away . Two Springs under Covid restrictions , Two Easters, Two Summers . We are heading for two Autumns but wait I hear you say - perhaps we will be lucky . Our Health Minister was sacked eventually last week and replaced by a more liberal/progressive one who wanted England open for busines. To mask or not to mask that is the corny question ? The choice will be ours . If I ... read more

Gabby the motorhome stayed home today . We were just travelling a fairly short distance on a mission . The mission to go out and buy a climbing rose . Not just any climbing rose but a red one that would grace on of our garden walls . We had found the best rose nursery on the doorstep and set off . The weather was unkind . It rained off and on throughout the one hour journey . The sun never put an appearance in all day. It was a wonderful feeling again to get out even if it was not in our girl Gabby. Roses - you either like them or loathe them . Many gardens in the 50's and 60's were full of standard roses with wonderful names . Peace a stalwart produced just ... read more

We left Rosslyn with the idea that we would drive halfway home . We had a place in mind to stop for the night . Not your usual motorway stop off mind. We crossed the border from Scotland into England. The landscape was gently sloping dotted with pine trees and dry stone walls dividing the fields . Gabby ate up the miles as we climbed up Shap and started to see the signs for the Lakes to one side of us and the Yorkshire Dales to the other. The roads were fairly empty which meant that Gabby had a good drive homewards. We always feel sad to be heading home but we had one more stop in mind . A motorway service station . Go on say it - you never stop at a motorway services. ... read more

Rosslyn reminded me of the Scrovegni Chapel in Italy . Take no photographs . It takes away the pleasure of others . The chapel is too small and you will cause a gridlock as you stand and take a photograph. The reality - buy a guidebook or a postcard. Sounds like a good ploy to make money doesnt it ? The car park was large and Gabby was not taking up too much of it . There was plenty of room for vans to stop overnight but yes you guessed it . No photos and no parking overnight . Move on you are not welcome . Just go up the road . There is a CL site . A small property where five vans can stay overnight. There were electric charging points on the park . ... read more

Gabby the motorhome was still parked up on the park and ride as we the driver and navigator were just about ready to walk into the castle grounds at Stirling . It was uphill all the way as you would expect with a castle and the sun was beating down on us. We were greeted at the gate . Masks on . Hands sterilized . The routine began as it always did. We told the guy in the wooden hut that we had tickets and were told to walk up and pick them up at the next gate . Masks off as we walked up . Masks on as we were approached . "Can you come with me " We were nudged towards a desk where our hands were sanitized again and our tickets were printed ... read more

Gabby the Motorhome was just arriving at the Park and Ride in Stirling. We had left the overnight stop at The Wheel and had to make the decision where to go next . It was not far to Stirling and it seemed to offer just what we were looking for . We had researched the Park and Ride and it seemed to be perfect . We could park Gabby up and get into the city easily . There was plenty of room and we had been able to source tickets on the internet for the castle . Another free entry as it was Historic Scotland which we could visit courtesy of our Cadw card. The sun was shining and there seemed a great deal to see and do. The car park did not have barriers and ... read more

It is difficult to be patient but to waste the rewards of patience is even worse - The words of an inspirational Muslim quotation ring true at the moment . We had left the shimmering silver of the Kelpies behind us . It is Day 472 of our Covid confinement and its restrictions on our travel . It was only a short drive to the Wheel. This was where we intended to stop the night . £15 for 24 hours . Toilets and Showers available . Ample parking and facilities from food outlets to boat trips . On our way we kept seeing more and more signs telling us that we were approaching a Level 1 Covid area . Plan ahead and stay safe . The alert level had moved from 1 to 2 as we ... read more

Mythical shape shifting horses - what is that all about ? A kelpie is a common water spirit in Scottish folklore. Sometimes the kelpie is a Celtic lakeside dwelling water horse . It can be described as a spirit living besides rivers . The kelpies also represent the heavy horses that once pulled the barges along the Scottish canals . We found ourselves on the car park at the Helix , Falkirk in Stirlingshire . We had not intended to be here this quickly but a combination of Hawick disappointing and then no parking at Melrose meant that we ended up at the Heliz rather early . Melrose had an abbey which was very similar to Jedburgh . Admission would have been free as it came under our membership of Cadw . Sadly the abbey looked ... read more
