These are things Ive discovered on my stay to Oz. They are observed by Me and they are my own thoughts about things that I thought were surprising. They are not all negative nor positive. They are not in any particular order, They just are :) • There are public toilets everywhere. You never have to look far for a toilet. Same thing goes for caravan parks. Every single town and area has one. • Everybody whose been in Australia and tells you about the people and the way they are, well, everybody says its an easygoing, relaxed bunch of people. So you come into Oz expecting it, and it still surprises you! It is SO true! As an example of this I remember living in Main Beach and going to the local bar alone, ... read more

It's cold. Very cold. Too cold. It's windy. And it makes it even more cold. To make things worse, one of the biggest snow storms of the year, supposedly, hits the country. Yippee! So it's cold here in Finland. And everybody is saying to us, it's been the so warm! And the sad thing about it is that they're right. I read in the Finnish weather forecast's webpage that it has been the warmest winter ever. The thing is, March, is supposed to be the beginning of Spring. Not the beginning of late winter... Oh well. One has to cope with whatever weather and this is what we've got now. Snow, cold winds and a very grey sky. The problem is, we got too used to the sunshine! Otherwise everythings fine! We had a hectic 2 ... read more

We arrived in Hong Kong a day later than thought thanks to a cancelled Cathay Pacific flight. No worries, we enjoyed a relaxed hotel room day with three full meals in their tab. I was expecting a lot from Hong Kong it being my first Asian destination. Carolina had prepped me to be prepared with lots and lots of people everywhere with her experience from Bangkok and Southeast Asia in general. We were still traveling on a budget so we didn’t take the fancy Airport Express to Kowloon where our guesthouse was. We took the bus which cost us $66 total which is about €6. The train would’ve cost us a whopping €17! ;) Our guesthouse was a pleasant surprise! It was in the budget travelers accommodation paradise, Chunking Mansions. Our host Simon was superb and ... read more

We stayed in a hostel in Wellington for two nights just to get a shower and wash our clothes. We’d been camping for nearly 2 weeks straight without a shower. Saying we were dirty was an understatement even if we had washed ourselves in the lakes on the South Island.  Wellington was a really nice city with cute little squares, parks and their National museum, Te Papa was well worth a visit. Our plan on the North Island was to: Do the Tongariro Crossing, the best one day hike in NZ (and maybe in the world) Visit the thermal areas south of Rotorua Spend time in Coromandel Peninsula Dig your own bath on the Hot Water Beach Visit Bay of Islands and take a cruise there Sell the car in Auckland What do you guys ... read more

Its been a very hectic two weeks. We left Dunedin and drove to the Fiordlands. We stayed in Te Anau and the next day drove to Milford Sound. The drive there was pretty amazing itself with stunning views but when we eventually got there that view Mitre Peak and the sound was priceless. We took a 2hour cruise in the sound and then drove back and camped somewhere in between the Sound and Te Anau. Next up was Queenstown, the home of all sorts of extreme activities. The drive there was quick as it turned out to be everywhere in NZ, atleast after Australia… We had big expectations of the town but it turned out to be just another real tourist trap. It was a tiny town cramped with overprized shops and way too many people. ... read more

5/2/08 Hey all, Last blog was written right before we left Sydney to the Gold Coast. We got a ride from a friend of ours from my work in the Gold Coast who just happened to be in Sydney and on his way back to home. On the way we stopped in Byron Bay but otherwise it was a pretty straight forward drive from Sydney. In Gold Coast we met all of our friends including part of the family Mitchell! We were so happy to meet up with him just this once more before we left Oz. And boy did we have fun in our last days there! It just happened to be Australia Day weekend and let me the one to tell you people outside of Oz, These people over here know how to party ... read more

Hey ya'll from Sydney! Yes, from Sydney. We met two Sydney siders Alex Brazil & Alex Colombia at the reception of the hostel we were staying in Melbourne and had drinks with them at the Crown Casino and as we were driving back to the hostel Alex B invited us to come with them to Sydney and stay with him there. We thought about it for about 10 seconds and said "Sure, why not!". So the next morning we started at 8am to Sydney again and how we havent regretted it at all! We have had a blast here! Alex B lives in Coogee, just blocks away from the beach, not that there's been any beach weather, but still its nice :D Also I met an old friend of mine from Turku, Pete, and his girlfriend ... read more

We loaded our 2007 Toyota Camry with all our gear and headed out of Sydney at 10am on Sat with our destination Melbourne. We had nine days to make the journey and it turned out to be just enough. On Sat we drove about 500kms to a border town called Albury. There we spent a hot night of 30+ degrees in a caravan park. We have a 2person tent so the smallest of us Mum made her bed in the car's backseat to which she became pretty accustomed to. The following day we went to a wildlife sanctuary for hurt animals and saw a lot of kangaroos, wallabies, emus, dingos, lizards, koalas, birds and tiny penguins. One of my mum's scariest and at the same time (atleast for me) funniest experiences are at this place. While ... read more

Secondly, Carolina has at the moment a food poisoning of some sort and cant get out of bed as Im writing this. If she doesnt feel better tomorrow, we have to bail out too and find some other way of travelling to Sydney and another place to stay as backpackers we are in at the moment is closing down for xmas. ... read more
