On Monday the 9th of February while Andrew was feeling extremely nervous, Jana thought it was just another ordinary day. We set off to go snowboarding for the day and hiked up to the summit of Blackcomb Mountain. It was a bluebird powder day, perfect for overlooking Whistler Mountain and the Village (little did Jana know that Andrew’s heart was jumping in and out as he felt the ring in his pocket while hiking up the summit!) As we sat on a rock and took in the views Andrew decided the moment was right. Andrew got down on one knee and shocked Jana with the “Big Question.” Of course Jana said yes with tears of happiness pouring out her eyes! To top it all off the newly engaged couple had a nice fresh powder run all ... read more

What happens in Vegas???????? No we didn't visit any 24hr Elvis Wedding chapels though we were tempted to take some photos outside to scare the parentals but lucky for their nerves we forgot! So yes Vegas is all about big lights, big hotels and of course Casinos galore. Although we were broke we couldn’t go to Vegas and let a little money slide down the slots. For those who are so keen you can even gamble when you arrive in the airport! So after joining a few Casinos to get some ‘free play’ and hitting the 1c slots while receiving free drinks from minimal clothed bar ‘ladies’ we ended up leaving Vegas unlike how most people do - with no less money! On our 1st bender of a night we ended up with the exact same ... read more

The famous California Coast You cant go to California and be in LA and not visit the famous Santa Monica beach where Bay Watch was filmed. So that’s exactly what we did! We also were lucky enough to stay with Jessica’s lovely mum at Long Beach (for those of you who are Sublime fans) and went to Jess’ local pub where skaters and surfers hang out in the evening. We spent a few hours down at Huntington Beach and also had a quick look at Laguna Beach. We later went down to visit Drews cousin who lives at Newport beach (Orange County) where the famous OC is filmed. It was so nice to meet some of Drews family and spend the night with some local people who were living in such a beautiful place. What we ... read more

We only has 2 weeks in America and it was defiantly not enough time to see much at all. Though we began our journey at our much loved friends house - Jessica (without her we would have been lost!) We were lucky to stay with a local in down town LA, Hollywood. Of course we did the tourist attractions like Disney Land, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood-the famous walk of fame and saw the Hollywood sign in the Hills. But the best was catching up with our friend Jess and seeing where she was living. We were mesmerised by the houses on Rodeo Drive and pretended we were rich for an hour as we walked down the famous strip of shops. Just three short blocks constitute the most famous shopping district in America, and probably the most expensive ... read more

Situated on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, Flor de la Amazonía Animal Rescue Centre is a volunteer based non-profit organization striving to help the native animals of South America and the indigenous communities of Ecuador. The Flor de la Amazonía Animal Rescue Centre, locally known as "Wayra Urku", was created out of necessity for a rehabilitation centre for a wide diversity of Amazonian wildlife. These animals have sadly been victims of trafficking, destruction of their natural habitat or mistreatment, still too common today in Ecuador and South America in general. The Flor de la Amazonía Animal Rescue Centre is responsible for rescuing these wild animals from captivity, commonly found tied up with ropes or chains or kept in tiny cages with no water or food. Once they arrive at our centre their rehabilitation process begins ... read more

Mancora, a place where sun and surf are plentiful year round. After 4 months of constant travel we needed somewhere to rest our tired bodies and somewhere that would give some colour back to our pasty bodies before 4 months of winter in Canada. On the coast of Peru we stumbled across this gorgeous surf beach - Mancora. We started our journey by arriving on a 17hr bus fully cama style (where the large leather seats recline back 180 degrees into beds and refreshments are served). It was the best bus ride in South America. We found a neat little place short distance away from the main crowded beach where we got to stay right on the beach in our own little private bungalow. Unfortunately Drew got to experience food poisoning (we think from chicken also) ... read more

The Inca Trail is Peru's best known hike, combining a stunning mix of Inca ruins, mountain scenery, lush cloud-forest and rich subtropical jungle. Over 250 species of orchid have been counted in the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, as well as numerous birds such as hummingbirds, waterfowl and the majestic Andean Condor. The trek itself was challenging in some parts, but was rewarding all the way through. There were defiantly times when we both wished hills were none existent in the world and our legs hurt and our lungs were screaming out for oxygen amongst the thinnest air at 4200m above sea level. Though here is some proof that despite all the pain we made it and loved it! For those who have time or are bludging at work, here is a lengthy over view about the ... read more

La Paz - Bolivia To get to LaPaz (Bolivia’s main capital) was a journey we will never forget. Imagine this: The bus journey was 12 hours long overnight. We hop on the bus at 8pm and remember the Semi-Cama and comfort buses don’t exist in this country. So we embrace the bus and its features and remind ourselves that we will be off in 12 hours. As the bus begins on the gravel road 7 hrs into the journey we have only just stopped bumping out of our seats and our chairs sitting back up right every so often as they never stay locked into place. We finally began to fear less for our lives as the bus stopped swaying and looking like it was going to tip over. Jana said a prayer as she remembered ... read more
