i should have written yesterday but i didnt. the hostel is nice and gives a nice breakfast. they just need air conitioning or better air circulation. the workers here are nice though and the people here are too. just everyone i think more or less wants to do their own thing and dont really seem to want to meet other people. ate breakfast with a girl who was in my bunk. found out she lived in the area of london i liked. it sucks that she was switching hostels. i guess we could have made future plans but i dont think she liked me that much lol. anyway at breakfast overheard this girl saying she was going to daliland. its about a 2 hour ride from barcelona and was something i was going to do once ... read more
we continued our d-day theme here in Normandy. saw Juno beach which is the Canadian one. its a huge beach community nowadays with many french and British vacationers. it reminds me of ventura a bit. very nice. had some weird dish which was the only vegetarian thing there aside from an omelet. i thought it was a vegetable plate and i guess it was. it had fries, boiled potatoes, tomatoes, pasta, and a tiny thing of a few pieces of lettuce. all sampler size. because it was a seaside town, almost everything on the menu was seafood which is understandable. we asked if they could make me up a salad or a sandwich and they said no lol. anyway, got dessert and that's all that matters. got an ice cream cone.i guess a major reason why ... read more
today we spent a lot of time looking at d day stuff. we went to a couple of the beaches and a port that used to be used by the Germans. the bunkers were still there and everything and we were able to go inside. it was creepy going in there. i kinda expected there to be a swastika on the wall and low and behold, there was a giant one some kid must have made inside and someone else wrote a bunch of racist bullshit like "SS", "88", and some other neo nazi symbol with a cross inside a circle. its disgusting but like i said, i figured there would be something there. went to a couple cemeteries as well. first we saw the German one. we didn't want to spend much time there but ... read more
left paris today. i don't know if i said this earlier, but Paris started to grow on me the more i got used to it. i probably would never go back to Paris though because i pretty much saw everything i wanted to see. its pretty much just people watching and walking around here that's fun to me. the food is too of course. we got picked up by our driver for the next 3 days for Normandy. he is our driver tour guide there. he must think we are rich or something because it is a private tour. i think a tour for 3 people cost the same though if we were going to do 3 days individually with different people so it worked out. hes a nice man a bit younger than my parents. ... read more
had another uneventful day. walked at late and went to the catacombs. that was really kewl. i cannot believe people actually steal though the bones and skulls of dead people. i would be afraid of getting cursed lol. afterwards i just went with my dad to a few cheap stores to try to find some perfume to give someone and i needed some extra film. spent the rest of the day packing before i go to normandy. this was a short read.... read more
climed notre dame today. for once it cooled off and it drizzeled on and off all day. get to notre dame early. slept in longer than we should have. it took about an hour before we could enter. took pictures of all the kewl gargoyles. walked around most of the day and got lost a lot. we had at a famous cafe where lots of expats used to go. food sucked and someone's cig smoke went right into my mouth as i ate. appetizing. i wish people heard of filters lol. got ice cream at yet another famous food place called bervillions or something. it was pretty good but only really worth going to if you just happen to be nearby imo. i got the pineapple ice cream and the java ice cream. had a taste ... read more
today was a leisurely super hot day. heard it was 93 degrees. its so fricken hot even at nine am. we started the day off by taking a long bus ride to the piere lachoise cemetary where jim morrison, oscar wilde, and other famous people are buried. that cemetary is huge. you can easily spend all day in it and i wish we could have. i like being among the undead. we witnessed a priest spreading the ashes of someone. oscar wilde's tomb was kewl but sad. people put lipstick kisses all over it and on it was a depressing quote about how the outcasts always moarn and the moaners are always outcasts. so sad. took lots of pictures there. mostly of spooky looking statues. i was surprised with how many jews were buried there. oh ... read more
woke up early today to hit the louvre. we took the bus and used our museum passes to use the ''secret" fast entrance near the cafe there while other people waited in line. we got there at about 8:30 and only had about five people in front of us. we ran like maniacs to see of course, the mona lisa. it was much smaller then i thought it was going to be. i kept going back and forth looking at it thinking "what am i not seeing?". we then went to see the venus de milo. impressive but so many other sculptures were better imo. the louvre is huge. looked and many paintings which were beautiful. not as many jesus paintings as i thought there would be. so hammurabi's code obelisk which i took a picture ... read more
i had a nice day today. we heard on sundays that many things were closed in paris but because sundays are busy days for jews, we went to the marais section of paris which is the jewish and gay area. we waited for a bus which rick steves says runs everyday. well a kind french lady went to us and said it doesnt run on sundays. she told us a bus that does go there so we headed over there. when the bus arrived, we said to the bus driver the name of the section we wanted to go to in french. he just kept nodding his head and said no a lot so we took a cab. we later found out that the bus does take us to that section. the driver was just your ... read more
we all woke up late skipping the expensive non refundable versaille bike tour and paying a shitload of money buying a train package to take us there and grant us admission there. versaille is the palace of all palaces and not covered with paintings of jesus everywhere. i was impressed. my parents then got friendly with a couple they met that also grew up in queens in nyc. it was hot as hell today. my jeans started to stick to me and felt more like leggings. we ate a super late lunch that was expensive but still not as bad as england. our tiny awful salad had pate on the side so i just didnt eat it because i was so fricken hungry. i wish soda here wasnt a rip off and i wish they used ... read more
