We have been very busy since the last blog. Unfortunately Anna and Amy were ill last weekend so weren’t able do much but there is still a lot to update you on. Last Saturday we went on a sponsored 10km walk in a place called Tachila. It is going to be a nature reserve when it opens officially and the walk was to raise money to be able to fence the land in so that they can introduce a variety of game and rhino. Hello everyone, Sorry it has been so long since we last wrote to you...time seems to have flown!! We are now feeling very at home in Francistown and even our room has become quite cosy. The hostel we are staying at is really lovely and the staff look after us loads! They were worrying so much when we went away this weekend, nice to know they are watching out for us!! What a week! After orientating ourselves to Francistown on Wednesday, we started our placements in the hospital on Thursday morning (at 7.30am! That was the first culture shock). Anna and I began in A&E, while Fiona and Jemma went to Obs and Gynae. The hospital wasn't quite what we were expecting. We thought it would be a lot better equipped and more Westernized than it really is. Well we made it safely to Francistown!! We spent yesterday just wandering in the centre of Gaborone and took some pictures of the Parliament building etc, but nothing too hardcore touristy as we were still recovering from travelling! It's a nice enough city, but we all got the impression it has been very quickly purpose built and is definitely not a top tourist destination! In fact we ended up in a government office for the Department of Tourism getting some information on buses to Francistown etc as the tourist board was too difficult to find! Hi everyone! We have finally made it to Gaborone (Capitol of Botswana) after a very long journey - over 12 hours on planes, 7 hours in a bus and a couple of interesting taxi rides! We're spending the day here today before moving on up to Francistown tomorrow morning. Our hostel here is lovely and exactly what you'd expect to see in Africa. We slept for about 12 hours last night, which the hostel owners found quite entertaining. Everyone's feeling refreshed today though.
