Oh how I love Spain. The people, the food, the culture; it is all magical! I was so incredibly sad when it was time to leave (even though I was only here for five day), but I know better things are waiting for me. My first stop in Spain was Barcelona. It took all day to get there by train from Nice but it was so worth it. Because I got there so late, and I was so tired, I didn't do much my first night. A fellow traveller and I went for sangria at a lovely bar whose name I can't remember. It was goooood sangria I must say. I slept very very well that night. The next two days in Barcelona were spent on a hop-on/hop-off bus tour. I visited the Sagrada Familia, Park ... read more

My dearest friends and family, I am terribly sorry for not having written in a while. Truly, I have been having so much fun that I simply did not make the time. Which I guess is a really good thing, but now I just have so much to write! I believe the last I wrote, I had just left Greece for Croatia, so that is where I will begin. On the evening of August 15th into the morning of the 16th I took the night bus back to Athens from Corfu. From Athens I flew into Dubrovnik with Jay. This was a very full day of travel. I arrived in Athens at 6 am, but my flight didn't leave for Croatia until noon! What a boring wait indeed. I couldnt even go past security or anything ... read more

Continuing the road trip, from Innsbruck we drove to northern Italy through the Stelvio Pass. Boy was that a tough journey in a manual car. The pass consists of 45 hairpin turns up, and another 45 down the mountain, while gaining 2800 m in elevation. It is so scary because when youre making a turn you can't see who is coming your way, and the road is so narrow in some parts that only one car can go at a time. It was a very scary, and incredibly fun drive through the mountains of northern Italy. I can definitely say my skills as a driver of a manual car have greatly improved. It was the ultimate test for myself. That evening (the 25th) we stayed in Santa Caterina, which is just near the bottom of the ... read more

First of all I would like to apologize for the corny title, but I simply couldn't resist. Secondly, I know it's been a while since I posted, but I want to write about Greece all in one go! Our first stop in Greece was on the island of Rhodes at a hotel called Vivian studios. It was a decent hotel, made up of different kind of rooms. Privates, dorms, apartments etc... We stayed in a four bed dorm. The room were very plain, the kitchen was sparse and it was very very hot at night. But it was also quite cheap, so value for money it wasn't all that bad. Additionally, Vivian and her mother go to all lengths to accommodate you and make you feel welcome. They are very kind people. Every morning her mother ... read more

First of all I can't believe it's august. What the hell?! Where has the time gone? I guess that's a good thing though! This trip is going to fly by in the blink of an eye. Our first day in istanbul was spent mostly in transit. We flew from Budapest directly to turkey. The flight wasn't bad at all; it was petty smooth and comfortable but getting from the airport was a hassle. First we tried to take a shuttle directly to our hotel but for some reason they wouldn't transport the two of us, they needed at least four people. So we waited for about half an hour to see if they could find more people, no luck. So instead we took a bus to the Taksim area, which was still a half hour taxi ... read more

Between Prague and Budapest we did a quick stop over in vienna for two nights. It wasn't super exciting, but a good stop to have a coupe of slow days, which are necessary on a trip like this one. We saw the schönbrünn palace and the zoo in the palace gardens. We spent all day walking around the palace gardens, it's quite massive. The zoo was especially awesome because we got to see polar bears and panda bears, which I have never seen before. It was a bit expensive, but totally worth it. It's a great zoo. We had schnitzel for dinner both nights, as there was a schnitzel fast food joint down the street from our hotel. So good and so greasy and soooo cheap. The hotel we stayed in was the Austria Trend park ... read more

Prague has most definitely become my new favourite city. Part of this love comes from the volume and quality of extremely cheap beer the city has to offer, but mostly I just can't get over the absolute beauty and splendour that is prague. It is a city that was mostly untouched by the war, so many of yhe buildings are very old, but restored. The hostel that I stayed in (Jay stayed separately) was called Adam and Eva hostel. It is a small hostel geared towards backpackers who don't necessarily want to party. It was very tidy, quiet and definitely adequate kitchen space. The only downside was that it wasn't right in the center of the city, but it wasn't very far to walk to the old town. Plus it was close to the castle, and ... read more

Europe July 18th 2014

Where have the days gone! I can't believe it's nearly a month since we left. It's a miracle jay and I haven't killed each other yet! In fact, we haven't even had a serious disagreement! It's awesome. July 12 - July 18th was spent in the Netherlands and Berlin. The first night was in a town called Rotterdam. There really is nothing to do in Rotterdam, except a few buildings with interesting architecture. I have to say it was really nice to have a lazy day off. My feet were very grateful for it. July 13th we took the train to Amsterdam - probably one of my favourite European cities. I love it so much. All the people and the bikes and the canals and skinny houses; I can't get enough of it. I could see ... read more

I am so incredibly happy to be in Paris. To me, this city is the heart of Western Europe, I could come back here time and time again. It is an absolutely spectacular city with new adventures and old friends around every corner. The majority of my time in Paris was simply spent walking for hours around the city (in the rain most days) just to explore it. Unfortunately Paris did not start off on the best note. Our train in London ended up being delayed for two hours! We didn't get to our hostel until after midnight. What a long day! However, Eurostar was very kind and accommodating and even refunded half the price of our tickets. The hostel we stayed in was a chain of hostels called st. Christophers inns. It's not bad, very ... read more

What a fantastic trip this has been so far; I can't believe we are already done London. And what a beautiful city it was! I do have to mention there were major drawbacks due to the fact that we were there for the busiest weekend of the year. Tour de france, 3 music festivals and Wimbledon were all going on that weekend. Needless to say, the crowds were stupid. I have never seen anything quite like it. The hostel we stayed in was great. It does advertise as having no kitchen or common areas, but that didn't even matter. It's called destinations at the rose and crown, and it's in southwark (London bridge area) just of the beaten path. This meant that it was accessible but quiet. The beds were almost as comfy as my beds ... read more
