So Steve and I decided to roll into Alice springs and use it as a jumping off point for our trip to Uluru, and after some 'careful' planning and number crunching we figured we could do this as our own roadtrip instead of going on a tour. We were hoping that it would cost roughly the same but we'd end up with a very different story than most tourists who went to Ayers rock and the Surrounding area, we were right. So to make this trip as cheap as possible we decided to only buy canned food, and instead of staying in a hostel or camp site we figured we could just sleep in our station wagon for three nights, I mean come on we're tough enough.......aren't we? Day 1 So we pick up our rental ... read more

Alice Springs, or 'The Alice' as it's called by the locals, is a tiny city in the middle of nowhere. It's claim to fame is that it's the jumping off point for tons of Uluru (Ayers Rock) tours. Most people roll into the Alice on Monday and head to Uluru for a few days and then they roll into Alice again the day before they leave, spending maybe two whole days here. Not me, I'll have been here for 10 days by the time I leave, and Add about 4 more days for my Uluru excursion (which is a must read if I do say so myself). Even though Alice is a tiny city with nothing around it for at least 500 kms, there's still a ton of cheap and free things to do around here. ... read more

So one thing I've learned through my travels is that getting from point A to point B can be really expensive and a bit of a pain. So when my buddy told me that he wanted to take a train from Darwin to Alice Springs I was kind of skeptical because I'd never ridden a train before. And after finding out that the train ride was 26 hours long, well I damn near had a heart attack. However once I got over the initial shock of it I realized that it was at least 100 bucks cheaper than flying and really was the only other option for getting to Alice, so we rode the train from Darwin to Alice. I'm not gonna lie the train ride was long and I didn't sleep very well on the ... read more

I can sum up Darwin in two words....Hot and humid! in the mornings at 6am the temp hovers around 25 and is accompanied by an 80-90% humidex, so it's more like 30 or so (after running in that running in the desert is going to be easy). Everytime you step out of your nice Air conditioned room you immediately begin to sweat. But once you get used to fact that you'll always be damp in Darwin it's not a bad place at all. Darwin is a quaint little city (actually the Capital of the NT) in Australia's Northern Territory. Darwin shows off some nice architecture to go with their rich history. In WW2 the Japs bombed Darwin until it was unrecognizeable as a city and before WW2 a cyclone came through and wiped Darwin off the ... read more

Hello Australia! It's been two weeks in Cairns now and I'm loving the weather. I don't want to rub anybody's face in it, but the coldest it's been here for the last 2 weeks has been +28 and let me you tell you, that's kinda chilly when every other day is over 30. Cairns is a nice little city that should be on everybodies itinerary when they visit Australia. From here I've been able to go snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, walk through the world's oldest rainforest, and chill at some nice beaches. The great barrier reef is everything I thought it would be. It teems with colourful fish, coral and other marine life. There's no doubt that the Great Barrier reef has been one of the biggest highlights of the trip. The rainforest also offered ... read more

Now onto the South Island. As with the Noth Island I won't be able to describe how cool it was so I will limit my words and just attach a bunch of photos so you can see for yourself why Nz is an awesome place to visit. The south Island has all the beauty the North Island does, but the south Island is a little more extreme. Driving from one city centre to another takes along time because of the whindy roads that track through the mountains, forests and avalanche prone areas of the South Island. Keeping with the extreme theme, the south island is home to a few more extreme activities than the North Island. On the South Island I was able to take a 4 hour hike through tropical forest and mountainous terrain to ... read more

Well My tour of Nz is almost over, in the next couple of days I will be relaxing on a beach in Australia, I can't wait! That being said, Nz is an amazing country with unbelievable sights and activities and I'm sure gonna miss it. I don't really think I can do New Zealnd much justice with my words so I will keep this short and just post alot of pics so everyone can have a peak at what I've been able to see and do here. My tour started with a trip from Auckalnd north to the Bay of Islands. This little tucked away part of Nz is amazing, the drive up was jsut as amazing as we winded our way through mountainous roads with dense forest and steep drops on either side. As we ... read more

Yayyyyy, I finally made it to NZ, and all I can say is WOW! Auckland has got to be my favorite city in Nz so far, okay so it's the only city I've seen so far, but it's still pretty cool. The whole city seems to be intertwined with the natural environment throughout, making it very scenic. From the large tree covered hills, to the islands that dot the harbour Auckland is just gorgeous. If that wasn't good enough the food here is delicious. I've tried to get as much variety as possible in the short amount of time that I'm here. From sandwiches at a cafe to sushi from the market and the pub grub in between everything has been so tasty. Although I have to admit I didn't know what I was ordering on ... read more
