After we said our goodbyes at Chicago Airport with my brother and his girlfriend Brittany, we boarded our plane for what turned out to be the longest flight either of us had ever done......it ended up being around 20 hours (15 hours and 50 minutes from Chicago to Hong Kong and then another shorter flight of around 4 hours from Hong Kong to Singapore) and the secound part was spent with a screaming toddler sat just in front of us, thank god he wasn't like that on the first plane! The last couple of days in North America were spent with family and friends as we probably won't be seeing them for another year or so. The second to last day some news came through that a friend from my old regiment had died 4 years ... read more

With the main part of our travels pretty much over in North America, we're both now looking forward to flying out from chicago to Singapore and starting the next big part of our trip. Since Cleveland however we have managed to visit a few more places along the way before we ended up in Mattoon, Illinois, where we decided to chill out and spend some time with some of my family who live over this way, it just means aswel we don't have to worry about where we are staying every three to four days! So anyway, from cleveland we got yet another Greyhound bus down to Indianapolis in Indiana, where we stayed for three days, we ended up staying just outside of the main city, in what seemed like someone elses house. It probably was ... read more

We spent our last evening in Washington walking around the monuments and the white house , of a night all the Monuments are lit up and look really good , it was packed with people and school's and we managed to get some really nice pictures. Washington's been really enjoyable city with so much to do, I would say you could come back two or three times and still not see all their is to see here. One of the good things about Washington is that pretty much everything is free :) which is a bonus for us. So today we are off to Harpers ferry, West Virginia its a small place just an hour or so out side DC and its known for its hiking and civil war. We got the train from Washington to ... read more

We're now well into our travels in the good old US of A.......and we seem to have done so much in such a short space of time! Since our last blog we have moved on a bit and passed through a few more cities on the East Coast, everyone of them with their own vibe. From the main city of Boston we moved to the outskirts of the city, about 30 minutes away by train to a more rural hostel. It didn't actually turn out to be that great, we ended up at an old house, about 100 years old, but it had been a hostel since about 1947 (and that was probably the last time they brought new bedsheets into the place) it has been in the same family since it became a hostel and ... read more

Well the last week has certainly been a busy one as we seem to have been moving around a fair bit. We started our move across to the east side of Canada, after leaving Lake Louise, Banff, on Monday the 13th, and after a 4 hour coach journey on the Greyhound bus we arrived in Calgary later that evening. Calgary itself is a fairly large city, famous of course for the Stampeed which occurs every July, however because we turned up in May there wasnt a whole lot happening and there's not much else to see really. We had only planed on staying at the hostel there for one night as we were just there to catch a plane out of Calgary airport heading to Toronto on wendesday (we planed to stay at the airport the ... read more

We've moved again!!....We got back from Seattle last Tuesday and ended up back at the Hosteling International Hostel on Jericho Beach about 20 minutes from Downtown Vancouver, where we stayed just before we headed down to the US. Before we got there we imagined the place would be packed.....but we were the only ones in our dorm, aswel as a few others staying elsewhere in the hostel, it was pretty much deserted. Which was a suprise for us as the weather has been geting really good the last 2 weeks, and as the hostel is literally next to the beach, and is only a 20 minute bus ride to Downtown, we thought everyone would be trying to stay there. It makes me think no one actually knows about this place....not that we were complaining! But we ... read more

So Its Been a while since are last blog we spent a few days in a hostel in Vancouver right on the beach just chilling , Then we decided to head down to Seattle It's about a 3 hour coach trip across the boarder, as the coach headed towards the boarder the driver informed us that we could not bring any food across the boarder which resulted in us trying to down some bananas and packets of crisps as quickly as we could. Once we got to the boarder we had to get off the bus and go through passport control, as we where watching a guy from our coach infront of us when up to the desk and handed over his passport with that alarms went off and police came from every direction, he was ... read more

Be warned this is a long post!!...Since last week Jade and me have moved on again and we're now back in lively Downtown Vancouver. We left Victoria on friday morning and headed by coach, 2 hours a bit further up the coast on Vancouver Island to a small town called Nanaimo, now when i say small it was actually tiny and had very little to do. But as one of the main ferry points was not too far away we decided to stay a couple of nights. We ended up at the Hosteling International place, which i think was the only hostel there and pretty much just chilled out and thought we would try and get ourselves some veiwings for appartments for when we got back to main Vancouver. The Hostel itself was really nice (a lot ... read more

After A pretty Beautiful ferry ride to Victoria we arrived at Swartz bay, from there we jumped on the local bus for an hour plus and soon arrived in the heart of Victoria which is a beaut, then the hard work started finding our hostel, we walked up and down every other road, I must have asked 10 people, no one knew where it was, anyway we found it, turns out we passed it four time while looking and its nice enough, although I suspect there are some homely people living here too. Victoria's is a really lovely little city it feels more like a town, it has a harbor and loads of little shops selling amazing clothes and trinkets. The city has a real British/European Vibe, so far I've seen Three British sweet shops and ... read more
