After A pretty Beautiful ferry ride to Victoria we arrived at Swartz bay, from there we jumped on the local bus for an hour plus and soon arrived in the heart of Victoria which is a beaut, then the hard work started finding our hostel, we walked up and down every other road, I must have asked 10 people, no one knew where it was, anyway we found it, turns out we passed it four time while looking and its nice enough, although I suspect there are some homely people living here too.
Victoria's is a really lovely little city it feels more like a town, it has a harbor and loads of little shops selling amazing clothes and trinkets. The city has a real British/European Vibe, so far I've seen Three British sweet shops and quite a few tea shops. on our first day we went for a walk along the harbor and followed it all the way around till we came to a place called fisherman's wharf, which i loved its got loads of funky houseboats all decorated differently along the wharf there's also a few places to eat and a man busking. First before we got to
the wharf we saw a Otter woooo our first wild animal in Canada, and then on the Wharf there where some seals !!! which I have taken to calling sea puppies as they look so cute with big puppy eyes and are my new favorite animal. After the wharf we then we walked along the breakwater wall which basically consisted of climbing loads of rocks and gave you a really good view, but was quite physical, climbing back we cam across a Chinese couple, the lady was clinging on to a rock while her husband was tiring to push her up, we managed to grab her an pull her up she then told me she was 74 , and her husband was 76 as she was telling me this her husband was attempting to climb the rock unsuccessfully and kept falling back, grant managed to lift him and I pulled him and in the end we got him up, there really was no stopping them and I just hope they got back in one peace.
Are second day in Victoria we decided to to do something a bit different after spending our morning browsing the shops we headed down
to the harbor for some whale watching , we booked a zodiac boat which is one of them little orange dingy things, our guide was really nice he was from London and had the most tanned skin I'v ever seen, their was only us and two girls from the Netherlands on board, we had to get dressed up all in ones and have hats and gloves which was funny and off we went. It was a around 30 minutes drive out to sea before we got our first spotting, we saw a male killer whale on its own which was quite rare as they usually travel in packs we followed him for quite a while and got quite close. It was a really amazing experience being so close, as its not tourist season here yet there weren't too many other boats around either. We also saw some sea lions which where massive and we where able to get real close to and on our way back to the harbor we saw a bald head eagle so all in all it was a really cool day and were both so glad we did it. After Whale watching we headed back to
Fisherman's wharf for some fish and chips, grant said they where the best he'ed ever had and ate them with the seals swimming buy begging for food. All in all a few really good days xx
