Arusha National Park Africa » Tanzania » North » Moshi
It had been a long time since we've spent a day together as a family, so we decided that since Julia and Jacob had a few days off from school, we would go to Arusha National Park, which is just about an hour from Moshi. We got up early yesterday morning, and left the house at 6:30 am. After necessary paperwork to enter the partk, we started our adventure about 8:00 am. We drove all through the park, which including a very scenic meadow, where we watched cape buffalo munch on some grass, still wet from the dew of the morning, [View Full Entry]

Innocent serving tea to the ladies at the Ladies Seminar in Monduli
Yesterday began very early for the Jensens! We were up by 4:30 am, and were out the door at 5:40. We picked up a couple ladies from the congregation - Julia and Rachel , and then we headed for Kisongo. George dropped us off at the Staffords, and he headed on to the school, where he had a class to teach, and Lindsey and I caught a ride with Stephanie Stafford and Angie Baker to Monduli. Even though there is no door or covers on the windows, we were able to meet in their new building. When we got there, Innocent, [View Full Entry]

Teamwork - many helping hands
We've been very busy over the last couple of weeks, trying to catch up on various jobs that have been put on the "back burner." George has resumed his Wednesday night class on the Family, and he has also resumed teaching on Fridays at the Andrew Connally School of Preaching. This current quarter is shorter than most, and so his class consists of four Friday classes, taught from 8-5, minus breaks and 1 hour for lunch. One of the bigger undertakings here at home is a carport that George and Luke have been constructing. The garage here is not a [View Full Entry]

We are very happy to FINALLY have a vehicle of our own. We've been very thankful to the various missionaries who have allowed us the use of their vehicles, primarily the Gee family, who gave us the use of their van while they were in the States. The Richardsons and the Staffords have also helped us out a number of times in the vehicle department. We are, however, thrilled to be in possession of our own vehicle. We knew that Elly would be returning from Dar es Salaam with our vehicle sometime soon, but we didn't know exactly when. Saturday morning, [View Full Entry]

It's been another busy week in Moshi. Last Saturday, the 1st of September, we celebrated Lindsey's 15th birthday. The Richardsons, Charles, and John joined us for lunch, and we bbq'd burgers, and enjoyed chocoate cake and home made ice cream. On Tuesday, George taught his last class of this session at Kilimanjaro Bible School. Wednesday, I had my last class with bibi Joyce. She will be returning to her home around the end of this month, and since we will be starting language school next Monday, a three week course, I'll likely not have another opportunity to meet with her. It is sometimes mind boggling to think of all the work that goes on to help our family live in Tanzania. Our finances and personal business have to be looked after in the States, our monthly newsletter must be printed and mailed, thoughtful friends and family take time to send care packages, treasurers mail our support each month, caring individuals create displays about our work on a bulletin boards, etc. We want to introduce you to a few of the people who are great helpers in our work. Kipton and Gina Garrett are members of the church in Dyer, AR. Kipton, [View Full Entry]

The boxes of Bibles arrived, which were generously purchased by the Airport church of Christ, in South San Francisco
Sometimes it’s hard to put into words the thankfulness we feel for our good brethren. Such is the case with our dear brethren at the Airport church of Christ, in South San Francisco. Our family has been co-workers with this congregation since 1986. That was the year that George began his studies at the East Tennessee School of Preaching. The Airport church of Christ supported our family during this two year period of schooling. Upon graduation, George, Joy, and Julia moved to South San Francisco, and George began working side by side with Windell Fikes. Three of our children were b [View Full Entry]

Our First Visitation
Our First Visitation
The ladies' first visitation was a visit to bibi Joyce, who had been suffering from malaria. (Thanks to Julie Richardson for the photo)
First, I'd like to share with you some wonderful news! The lady with whom I've been studying with since June made the decision to be buried in baptism, and become a member of the New Testament church. I'll back up a little, and recount some recent events leading up to that day. As I wrote in a previous blog, bibi (grandmother) Joyce had been ill with malaria. The ladies of the congregation had just decided to start going together twice a month to visit the sick or those in need of encouragement. The ladies decided to visit bibi Joyce first, and [View Full Entry]

Taken on the property of Shaw's, the leather shop.
The beginning of the month began with telling Jenny goodbye. I think our girls have made a friend for life. :) A couple days before she left, we took her around town so that she could make some last minute purchases. Among the stops we made was at a local leather crafting shop, called Shaw's. The owner has been in business for many years. He hires a number of handicapped people, so that they can have an opportunity for employment. While we were there, he gave us a tour of his work area, and it really is fascinating. August 8 we [View Full Entry]

Hello Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the Travelblog site has very recently experienced a major crash, and as a result, many blog entries were lost. I am going to be giving some thought as to what we should do with our future blog efforts. In the mean time, you may be getting notices of a travelblog entry, when we are merely trying to repost lost entries. Thanks for your patience! Joy [View Full Entry]
