Counting the Cost Africa » Tanzania » North » Moshi
When you decided to become a Christian, what did that decision cost you? Earlier this week I had another Bible study with an elderly woman that I've been studying with over the past several weeks. This woman lives several hours away, near the coast, but she has been staying with family here while having some medical needs addressed. This week we covered "Counting the Cost." One of the concerns that this woman has is her ability to worship once she returns home. You see, there is no New Testament church anywhere near her home. Also, this woman is not able [View Full Entry]

Children hanging around the area where the gospel meeting was held each evening
So much has happened since our last blog update, I hardly know where to begin. The campaign continued throughout the week, with many people working to make it a success. We are thankful to Greg Neill, who did a wonderful job preaching for our gospel meeting each evening. It was interesting to watch numerous people, hanging back in the shadows, yet listening to the gospel message each evening. The children’s classes, held every afternoon, Wednesday through Saturday, were a big hit with the kids. We are so proud of the ladies of the Moshi congregation, who, for the first time, [View Full Entry]

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind for the TZ2000 team. June 5-9 was the first campaign week - held in Arusha. Since we had just received our container, we did not help during this first week, but rather worked furiously at home, so that we'd be a bit more settled by the time of the campaign in Moshi. The Freed Hardeman campaigners returned to the States on June 10. June 12-16 was seminar week in Arusha. Tuesday - Friday there were classes every day. The men met at the Andrew Connally School of Preaching. The women met [View Full Entry]

Patiently waiting while paperwork is being processed
The last week and a half has been a flurry of activity. Tuesday, the 30th, John Baker took Elly, George and Luke to the border of Tanzania and Kenya to start the paperwork that was necessary for the release of our container. Wednesday morning they returned to the border to finish the process, which literally took all day. The actual inspection was done rather quickly, but then there was a long wait while the border officials took an afternoon break. Finally, the container was released to go, and wouldn’t you know it, the hired driver was not around. He had [View Full Entry]

Life in East Africa is always an adventure! I thought it was challenging to get things done in California at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) - with the waiting lines that formed early in the morning and snaked out into the parking lot. How simple that now seems. It was necessary for me to get some official paperwork processed, and that would require going in person to the country’s capital in Dar Es Salaam. Thankfully, there is a wonderful brother who helps the missionaries get such tasks completed - Elly Martin. Elly started his journey by bus on Monday [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone, It's been another good week here in Tanzania. George has been working hard at getting the rooms painted inside our house. Most of the walls had been painted with a type of whitewash that comes off if the wall is wiped, so we needed to get the walls painted with something more washable. We've got the living room/dining room painted, as well as three bedrooms, and George's study room. We want to get the painting done before our belongings arrive. I know that some of you are curious about life in Moshi - what does it look like, [View Full Entry]

Julia helping the ladies
Hello everyone, One of the main events of the past week was the first Teacher's Workshop for the ladies of the congregation in Moshi. This was the first time they experienced a program of this kind. Judy Hall, who has been visiting from the States, gave a lesson concerning the accountability that teachers have for what they teach. I gave a lesson on the purpose of Bible class. After our lessons, Julie Richardson divided the ladies into four groups. Each group was given a segment of Scripture, and the ladies were given the assignment to made a visual aid to [View Full Entry]

Baptism
One of the three baptisms on the 29th of April
It's hard to believe that we have been in Tanzania three weeks. By Tanzanian standards, we have gotten a lot accomplished. Here is a recap of the past week: On the 29th of April, our Lord's day began in a marvelous way. After Bible class, there were three women who desired to be baptized, and so they were baptized into Christ between Bible class and worship time. During the worship hour, George preached at Moshi for the first time - a lesson on the unfolding of the Kingdom. There is an interesting tradition in Tanzania. After each service time, the [View Full Entry]

Dear faithful supporters, We are so thankful for your prayers and financial support which sustain us as we work here in Tanzania. God continues to bless our family with health and amazing blessings unfolding in a fashion which seen to cry out for His providence. After being in the country for merely a week, we secured a house to rent at a very good price. Brent and Julie had done so much house hunting for themselves, that they were able to immediately point us to some choices. They have so graciously allowed six Jensens to live with them during our [View Full Entry]

Our First Week Africa » Tanzania » North » Moshi
It's hard to believe that we've been in Tanzania for a week. We have been warmly welcomed by the mission team. We are extremely grateful to the Richardson family who has so graciously opened their home to us, until such time that we are able to find a house to rent. Here is an overview of our first week in Tanzania: Tuesday, 17th: After arriving at the Kilimanjaro airport, we were driven to Moshi by Brent Richardson, John Hall, and Christopher Mwakabanji. During the trip, the rains came down and soaked our luggage. When we arrived at the Richardson's home, [View Full Entry]
