This morning we woke up at 8:30 and after a full day yesterday we decided to sleep in a bit longer. Of course we no longer had an alarm to go off and wake us up so we slept in a little longer than we really wanted to. We did get up for lunch though! We went to to Tesco and bought some fruit and sandwiches and water. After lunch we went to the Parliament Building and Westminster Abbey. When we went to Westminster Abbey it was after having seen some clips of Queen Elizabeth's coronation. It was interesting to see where the coronation actually took place 59 years ago, along with the coronation chair that has been used for every coronation since it was first made by Edward I. The chair was made in 1300 ... read more

So after waking up insanely early (3 am) - thanks jet lag - I finally gotaback to bed only to discover that 8:15 comes pretty quick. We got up and had a smashing English breakfast at our hotel before rushing out to start our first proper day in London. Our first stop was the Tower of London. We went on a very nice guided tour and heard all about the Towers gruesome history, the murder, the torture and the traitors! We spent most of the day there, we had a late lunch and decided to head off to St. Paul's Cathedral. We arrived there at about quarter to 4 and decided that £14 was a little pricey to see a cathedral, especially considering that they were closing in just over 30 minutes. We decided to do ... read more

We have arrived in London! It was a fairly uneventful flight, a bit of turbulence but I managed to sleep most of the way through the flight. We got in a bit earlier than expected to London Heathrow but we had to wait in line to get through passport control for over an hour and a half so we didn't leave the airport until 3pm (local time). We managed to find our hotel, although it took a bit of walking! The map we had cut off the streets that we wanted so we finally found a travel lodge and got a map from them. Our room is, as most are in London, quite small. We went out for a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant, Thyme. After a quick stop at Tesco's for some water we ... read more

I am going back to Europe in less than a week. I still have to finish packing, it seems that every time you think you have everything there is another thing that you need to remember. My friend Sydony and I have a great and full trip planned, first to London then Sweden, Geermany, Austria, Netherlands, Dublin and Scotland! It is going to involve a fair bit of train and plane travel so we are trying to pack light! We are getting really excited. We are taking along our new iPads and I will try to recount our journey as we go along!... read more

I am going back to Europe!! My friend and I have been planning a trip to Europe for some time now. It has hit a bit of a road block with the Olympics in London. Hopefully we will get it resolved soon so that we can finalize our flights and hostels. Once that is done it will feel like our trip is really going to happen.... read more

Got up early this morning (UK time) to get to the airport. I was a little worried at the weight of my bags. I had crammed as much as I could into my carry-on and purse but my checked bag still weighed more than I was allowed. At least I though so since the scale I was using to weigh with it was hard to actually see the numbers when the bag was fully on it, so it was a bit of a guess at the actual weight. I did manage to get it from around 25kg to 23kg although that was still 3 kg too heavy. British Midland International (which is what I was flying to London on) has a limit of 20kg and charge £10 per kilo over 20kg. My bags weighed in at ... read more

One more day here and then I get to fly for over 9 hours but I will be home for Christmas. On the one hand it will be sad to leave all ove the people that I have gotten to know over here. On the other though it will be nice to get home and see many familiar faces that I have missed while over here. Merry Christmas!!... read more

Today was mainly a travel day. I left Cardiff and took a train to Manchester. I had only 12 minutes to swtich trains in Manchester! I got off the train, and finally found the departures board but there were two trains leaving at 2:47 and I was not sure which one was mine! My ticket said Huddersfield, but that was a stop in the middle, not the final destination, which is what the boards show. The lady who sold me the tickets on my other one that was a middle destination she wrote the end destination for me, but not for this one. I had to go ask at the information desk. Luckily they were not too busy, and as luck would have it I had gotton dropped off on platform 3 and the train I ... read more

I didn’t get up to much today. The weather started off alright and I walked over to Mary Ann Street. There is really nothing interesting or exciting on that street but I felt since I was here I should go see it. After that I continued my walk and went to the Cardiff Bay area. I stopped at a coffee shop and had a nice brunch there. By this time the weather had turned and it was windy and starting to rain. I dashed to the Red Dragon Centre to go see the Doctor Who Exhibition. I was very excited to see it since I have gotten hooked on Doctor Who and Torchwood. However it was not there! They closed it down and there was nothing to see. I debated going to a movie while I ... read more

After a bit of a restless night, not because of the accommodations, but because of my sore throat, which tends to bother me most at night. I slept in and didn’t get up until almost 10! It being the weekend things don’t really start to open until 10 anyway so it wasn’t too bad. My first stop was the information centre, but because I already had a list of things to do, and a map from the hostel, I didn’t stay there long. I went next door to The Cardiff Story Museum. It was not a very large museum but it had a lot of interesting and interactive displays about the ancient, and more modern history of Cardiff. There was a collection of items, donated by people who used to live in Cardiff and there was ... read more
