As it was a Friday Christine was working from home again so I had a lazy day around Dee Why..unfortunately as it was still changeable weather I wasnt able to "top up my non existant tan" on the beach. Due to all the hype of the Royal Wedding coverage a decision was taken to have a Royal Wedding Party. The plan was that due to the time difference the build up started at 6 with the ceremony at 8 so this laid the ground perfectly for a fancy soiree involving sushi and champagne. My task for the afternoon was to get some tat so we could celebrate in style. I think I did well in locating a fancy dress shope where I located 2 plastic tiaras, some party poppers, crisps, sweets etc. The plan was also ... read more

As it was the end of the holidays and CP was back at work Im back on the tourist trail again. My holiday has been a bit of a tale of 2 parts in regard to the weather.- whilst last week was good and def beach weather, this week has been more typical of ur autumn weather. I was booked to do the bridge climb at 10 am and knew from reading all the stuff that it took roughly 3 hrs. However this isnt really the story, whilst the whole thing takes 3 hrs the actual climb itself only 2 hours. they are actually really safely conscious which i suppose is understandable. After watching the safety video u are then breathlaysed to make sure u are able to climb. Then u are made to strip into ... read more

Although I'm not a church goer, as it was Easter Sunday we decided to go to church, which turned out to b a different experience than at home. Because of the cost of buildings around Sydney many churches hire a room rather than having a building of their own over here. And this church hired a room in a golf club overlooking the beach. The experience was totally different than at home. There was a rock band playing tunes for the 1st 20 mins, then the message via a satellite link. The minister dude was also wearing jeans and a casual jacket. Afterwards we stayed for a coffee and a chat. People seem less judgemental and it was deemed Ok for christians to have a drink, go to pubs and b a normal person without the ... read more

This morning I woke up to the sound of heavy rain, which i suppose in the grand scheme of things was pretty good going, a week after I arrived. However, it scuppered a few of our plans to go rollerblading or kawakying around Manly. So Plan B - shopping around Manly, which is always a suitable alternative in my book. The unfortunate thing is that the exchange rate is very poor at the moment, for stirling so everything seems so expensive. Whilst the last time I was here $20 roughly changed £20 it is now closer to £16 which isnt so good. After that we headed up to North Head. This is an area high up at the top of the cliff at the opening to the harbour. It gives a fantastic view of the city which ... read more

Today, despite the weather forecast giving stormy weather, it was nice so as CP and Linc were both on holiday we decided to go out sailing for the afternoon. Christine did well not only getting engaged to a pilot but one who had his own boat - BINGO the girl done good! So CP made a picnic and ,being Christine as u girls know was more than sarnies and coke - it was a delux version of fajitas, baked potatoes and of cors the oblitatory bottle of champagne. (at this rate Im gonna b coming home with very expensive tastes!) Lincoln's boat is moored at Pittwater ,which is about 20 mins from Dee Way and although he considers it too be small (no cabin or toilets) it certainly did the job for me. Whilst CP and ... read more

To make the most of my time here I have decided to get up at the same time as Christine and travel with her into the city. So at 8 oclock (reluctantly) I found myself on the Manly ferry over to Circular Quay. For anyone who knows the Barclay Card Ads which on telly at the moment where commuters go to work in the most unusual ways this daily commute are an extension of that. Totally totally stunning. The fast ferry takes about 18 mins to arrive in downtown sydney past as what can only b described as the most breathtaking views of the Opera house on the left and harbour bridge on the right. It is the MUST see view of Sydney. After having a 'skinny decaf flat white"or a white coffee with skimmed milk ... read more

As most of u know I'm not overly a morning person so it was a slightly tired Paula who checked into Belfast International Airport on saturday morning. 'Are u excited ?' my chaffeur (read mother) had asked on the journey down. I guess I was a bit underwhelmed to her - possibly as I had been busy in work, possibly as i had been to the promised land twice before or possibly as I had only booked the trip six weeks ago so there wasn't the usual Big build up associated with such an adventure. Also I guess the thought of the connection at Heathrow was worrying me slightly. I had 2 1/2 hours to collect my luggage, race between terminals, check in and go through security before the next flight was due to leave. Thankfully ... read more

I think I was reasonably lucky arriving at night as I was able to keep myself up to around 10.30 then go to bed as normal without feeling too gluggy. So when I woke at 7.30 I felt relatively refreshed. There is also something to be said about staying with someone rather than at a youth hostel. It was so nice to be able to unpack my stuff into shelves but more importantly have a bathroom to myself. My lovely friend Christine lives in a beach suburb called "dee why". It is one of the Northern Beaches along with Palm Beach (Home n away) and Manly. In local terms if Manly is Bangor, Dee Why would be like Donaghadee. But saying this although its quiet its a pretty chilled but happening place too. Christine also lives ... read more
