We left for our Las Vegas trip on December 15th, leaving behind -44 with the wind chill. We arrived in LV around 11:30 pm. We checked into our hotel, The Flamingo!! The Flamingo is one of the oldest hotels that is still on the strip. It defines Las Vegas, washed in pink lighting and lots of neon lights flashing! It was first opened in 1946, and was by built by mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel. We walked around for an hour or so before going to bed. The next day we woke up reasonably early, when we opened our curtains on our 7th floor room we found we were over looking the lagoon and the back part of the hotel. We also could see some of the Mountain ranges that surround Las Vegas. Both Dave and I ... read more

Hey everyone sorry we've been slacking on whats been going on. We flew back to Canada on April 22 and are currently in Manitoba. Dave and I are staying with my sister Nadine, and helping my dad on the farm. We will be in Manitoba until the wedding. Before we left Europe we spent a week in Edinburgh Scotland, staying with a friend of my sisters. Edinburgh is a great city and we didn't get to see even half of it. We spent pretty much the entire week walking up and down the Royal Mile doing the touristy stuff along the way. The Royal Mile is the mile long road that connects Edinburgh Castle to the Queens Palace. There was lots of things to see and do, and with our pass that we bought we ... read more

On the 4th Dave and I borrowed the Land Rover and went for a drive to the Mourne Mountains. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day, the sun was shining and we only had to wear 1 layer instead of 3! The Mournes are Northern Ireland highest mountains and contain 12 mountains in total. Our first stop of the day was Newcastle, which is an hour south of where we’ve been staying and along the coast. We cruised around town for a bit checking out shops and finding information about the Mournes. After that we headed into the Mournes to Silent Valley, which is a dammed and is where Belfast gets its water from. The drive to Silent Valley was really pretty; all the fields were lined with the traditional stone walls that you ... read more

On the 31st Dave, Chris, Johnny and Neil and I went to Enniskillen for the weekend. Enniskillen is in the County of Fermanagh and was a couple hours from where we have been staying. The town of Enniskillen is actually an island and is between the Upper and Lower Lough Erne lakes. The town is connected with bridges to get from one side of the island to the other. We left Saturday afternoon and once arriving found us a place to stay, then headed to a Pub for drinks and supper. The next day we rented a boat for the afternoon to cruise around the Lower Lough Erne. There are 90 islands on the Lough Erne and most of them are ancient religious sites. Our little boat was no speed demon; it took us all ... read more

Northern Ireland We arrived in Belfast on March 18th after 30hrs of travelling and having Sunday the 18th happen twice. Since we crossed the International Date Line we arrived in LA 12 hrs before we left NZ! We finally made it to Ireland at 5pm on the 19th and we're met by Lyndsay and Jeff at the Belfast airport. We picked up our rental car and drove to our B&B for the night. Dave and I had great intentions of going out for supper with Lyndsay and Jeff, but after a shower and a lay down to watch The Simpsons we woke up 4 hrs later to Lyndsay at our door with food!! What a great friend! The next day (20th) after Dave and I had a good 14hrs sleep, we loaded up the car ... read more

We crossed back onto the North Island on March 2. We spent almost a week at Logan and Chloe’s not really doing anything! One day we went to Lindale, which is a farm that has NZ animals and does shows of shearing sheep ect. We took Logan and Chloe’s 1 ½ old daughter through the farm tour to check out all the animals, she thought that was pretty exciting and the adults enjoyed it too! On the 9th we went ocean fishing with Shawn and Jarrod (these are guys Dave worked with on harvest) off Wanganui. Between the 4 of us we caught 9 Blue Cod, 3 Snapper, 2 Barracuda, and 1 small shark. Not bad for a days work! Later that night we went to Jarrod’s place for a party, where both Dave and I ... read more

We drove back to Picton on the 24th and spent a couple days getting organized for the Queen Charlotte Track. The QCT is 71km long and takes most people 4 days do complete. This was our plan to walk the track in 4 days and camp along the way. It was a nice plan, but sometimes plans just don't work they way you think they will!! DAY 1 To get to the start of the track we were boated out to Ship Cove. Our boat left Picton at 9am and got us to Ship Cove in an hour. We decided to pay the extra money to get our packs transferred to the places we would be staying so we didn't have to carry them. Thank God we did this otherwise we'd still be sitting at Ship ... read more

We arrived in Kaikoura on the 21st for 3 days, to go whale watching. Kaikoura is not really a big town and the whale watching is its claim to fame. We stayed at another camping park in Kaikoura, but once we checked in we'd wish we'd gone somewhere else. The campground was really run down and not much effort was put into maintaining it. The garbage was collected and thrown in a trailor right beside the kitchen, so there was a nice collection of flies when we cooked. Our first day was spent waiting for the dryer to be free because the people how run the place used it all day. Its never taking me 5 hours to do 1 load of laundry before! On our second morning we got more excitement then we expected though, ... read more

On the 19th we left Dunedin and headed for Twizel for more views of Mt. Cook. We travelled up the East coast for a while, before heading inland through Mackenzie country. Along the coast we stopped at Shag Point, which is know for its seal and penguin colonies. Yes more seals and penguins is what we thought but it was a good thing we stopped. We got the closest to the seals here then in anyother place we saw them. They were all over the rocks below the cliffs we were walking along and in some places they were only 5m or less away from us. They're really not very active animals when they're on the rocks, one seal would move 2 hops then lie down again for 5 minutes then do the same thing again. ... read more

Unfortunately we let someone else take our pictures off our camera and they screwed it up, so we lost another 200+ pictures again. So we don't have any pictures for this blog. So let this be a lesson always do it yourself. We left Marianne and Geoff's today and headed to Dunedin, which is on the East Coast. We took the Southern Scenic Route around the bottom of the South Island following the coast, round the Catlins. Our first stop along the way was Porpoise Bay, where the world's rarest dolphins reside, the Hector Dolphin. We couldn't see them clearly but we did see quite a few of them swimming around in the Bay. The next stop was to check out a fossilized forest. It was pretty neat, you could actually see the trees that used ... read more
