I have been asked quite a few times now about the political situation here in Thailand. Well, the basic thing seems to be that the "Yellows", consisting of some wealthy families and the Thai educated middle class, claims that the government party around prime minister Yingluck and her family are corrupt and buying votes. At least the first seems to be largely true. Yingluck is supported by the "Reds" - a group of protesters against the yellow protesters. Now the government has promised new elections on February, 2nd but the Yellows don't want that because Yingluck will most likely be re-elected. So the Yellows want the whole government to resign and a constitutional council should govern Thailand and make consitutional changes and reforms until there can be another election. But that in itself is not democratic. ... read more

There are many means of transport in Thailand. By aeroplane may be the safest, train the cheapest, public buses easy to use, public VIP buses comfortable and then there are still a lot – moto, organized tourist transports, Tuk Tuk and of course the one with the best money/speed ratio – the minibuses. They go from almost every bigger town and many small villages into all directions. They are fast, comfortable, got aircon (you may need trousers and a jacket) and will let you exit wherever you want on the way. I had the chance of taking one (again after a while) to do my visa-run to Malaysia (get there and get a new Thai visa). When I came to the minivan pickup place, all I wanted was not to sit in front – in the ... read more

After all I followed the Music and found this new year celebration right at the beach. I attended it, had some Food, sat on a chair and watched the Show. Kind of had to because it started raining and everybody moved in with the chairs and there was no more way to escape. But actually the Show was ok and I enjoyed it. For the rest - just enjoy Videos and pics below. Thx ... read more

Back... :-) I arrived at Khanom at the 25th as you know and planned to stay here until the 2nd of January. I had this booked in advance and after that I had planned to go to Ao nang, on the west side. However I like it here very much and the guy with the house in Ao Nang did not answer and since they offered me this Bungalow for 200 EUR/month, I have decided to stay here another month before I continue with my trip. The bungalow is paid for two people, just in case you feel like visiting for a week or two. I am doing a 50 - 70 km bicycle ride every 3rd day just to inform my muscles that this is not the end. Find some pictures at the end of ... read more

It was finally the day to continue. I had a fixed booking for a bungalow from the 25thin Khanom. The day before I had collected my big backpack, which I had sent to Koh Samui with Lomprayah ferry and cargo. It was only 12 kg more to carry on my back and I expected it to be no problem. I took the car ferry to Donsak pier because it was closest to Khanom and also the cheapest, it was 200 Baht with the bicycle and took about 70 minutes. I just don’t know why everybody has to start their engines 10 minutes before the ferry doors open, but I felt very polluted. But then again, why did I not wait with going down until the cars were all outside? This day’s trip should only be 21 ... read more

From Koh Tao I took the Ferry to Koh Samui directly. I had been on Koh Phangan two years ago and did not Need to see it again. I was a bit afraid before arriving at Koh Samui. I had heard that at this time of the year, everything would be booked and only expensive Resorts would be left. That was wrong. I just got off and at the end of the pier, I found an average room in Coffee Village for only 300 Baht/night. I rented it for three nights because it was perfect for me, next to the ferries where I would have to leave early 25th. I rented a scooter and went around the island that day. There were countless free rooms and Bungalows in every Price range and just everywhere. I must ... read more

I was just shocked of what had become of this island. Sairee beach is no longer existing. Buildings are built into the water, only when the water is low, a small strip of sand is left. Everything is so crowded, packed, small, busy and expensive. There are some smaller beaches left, yes. And for the 1000+ divers every day there may still be coral reefs. If you are below 25 and want to party, you are also right here. But for all others: RUN!... read more
