Howdy from USA, so we made it to Seattle to stay with Grace and Matt and the lovely Lillian. Phil has been teaching her lots of bad habits including the word "bum" !! We've been out and about but mostly chilling and eating!! Lovely wine tasting region and of course wine buying for diner tonight. We managed to meet up with Jessica and Mike and little Miles (well he's not that little!!). Mike showed us around his research boat which was interesting. Miles slept for most of the day including the Picasso exhibition. We're heading out Saturday morning for the longest day of traveling to get back to lovely London - at least the weather here is like the UK so we'll not have too much of a shock when we arrive See you all soon ... read more

Hello from San Francisco there was a slight delay in finishing this post so we're actually in the airport waiting to leave. So it poured with rain on both sat and sun, but undetered we donned our wet weather gear and did what tourists do. Alkatraz, sour dough factory, sealions, pier 39 etc etc Today was much better bright sunshine so an open top bus was in order around town and out to the golden gate bridge. One quick cable car ride later and we're waiting to go see Grace and Matt with hopefully a guest appearance from Jessica and Mike. Phil is just sad that we couldn't rent a black mustang and go chasing down the long San Fran streets. I think he hoped it would make him look like Steve Mcqueen!!! F and P ... read more

Kia ora for the last time so we made it back to Auckland and we've had a nice few days enjoying to last of the sunshine before we head back to october winter weather in the states. Our 4 and half star hotel was lovely and we managed to leave for long enough to do a few tourist things: minus 5 ice bar bridge climb and dinner in the revolving restaurant !! (which didn't revolve fast enough for phils liking !!!) So now we're heading to the airport to catch our flight to San Fran ........ F and P xx ... read more

Hello, for those of you still wondering we have only just stopped smelling of burnt matches! though some might say that's an improvement on phils usual smell!! From Rotorua we headed west to Waitomo. We stayed at a great place called Woodlyn Park, they have some rather interesting accomodation there including a converted boat, trains, hobbit holes and a Bristol bomber plane. Of course we had to stay in the plane in the cockpit section, and yes we did climb into the seats and play with the controls and steering wheel etc. The farm also hosts the Billy Black NZ culture show which entertained phil alot with a moon walking pig and live sheep sheering etc. Obveously the real reason for being there was to go caving in the glowworm caves which was excellent. We did ... read more

Kia ora, So after the long train journey we made it to National Park Tongariro. Oddly the train stopped for half an hour lunch break even though there was a buffet car? All became clear though when we stopped not long after in the middle of no where and the driver changed with the South bound train to go back to Wellington. That's Kiwi logic for you!! Our youth hostel then provided a few surprises with amassive climbing wall and a rather useful patio door in our room. Next day we set off to do the 19.4 km Tongariro crossing (those of you who have done it they have extended it by 2 kn if you think i've got the distance wrong!) The weather was poor to say the least and bloody windy up on the ... read more

Hello from the North Island. So we went on our wine tour which also included beer, cider and some fruit liquers. Not so keen on the boutique red wines quite a thin taste prob quite nice in the summer but not the belly warming that we're used to. We left Nelson in the pouring rain and just managed to get through to Picton before they closed the roads. We opted to avoid cycling on the first part of the Queen Charlotte Track and went on the water taxi straight to Punga grove the first hotel for us to stay at. It turned out to be a good idea as the trampers we met advised that the water was up to their knees across some parts of the track. Thankfully we woke to a lovely sunny day ... read more

Hello, slight break in the blog and alots been happening...... so the journey continues onto Franz Josef glacier. There was some poetic licence in the description of the 'rain forest canopy' !! but the tree hut was very nice and comfortable and the private spa was relaxing away from everyone else. The glacier was a full on days hiking - sunny in the morning turning to hailstones. Quite a few narrow gaps in the ice for Phil to squeeze through and the crampons meant i didn't end up on my arse on the slippery sections. How those guides do it everyday i'll never know. Off to Greymouth next - yes liz and pete it's a bit uninspiring there isn't it glad we jumped straight on the train. Lovely Tranz Alpine train ride lots of views and ... read more

Hello, hope all is well back on the other side of the world. It's obveously quite a small world as we've bumped into loads of people from xscape the Castleford snowdome here in Wanaka. Which was quite handy for getting discounts on hire gear etc!! So we left Dunedin behind us and escaped back into countryside in the Taieri Groge railway. Phil wa sa little disappointed that the light wasn't very good for his photos - not sure when he turned so arty?? The trip is nice and there are some amazing views off the edge of cliffs where they just let you get off the train - health and safety at home would have a heart attack if they saw what they let you do here!!! We arrive in Wanaka to some cloudy rainy weather ... read more

Dear all, so we've had an action packed few days.... We went on the TSS earnslaw steam boat and had dinner at walter peak high station. Phil was very much enjoying watching the engines but i thought they smelled funny. We didn't manage to go to the cow shed Liz but there's one somewhere else so we'll go to that. We found a microbrewary place instead and watched the new zealand rugby match in an Irish bar - yes all the way to New Zealand to go to an Irish bar!! Although it was necessary to support New Zealand i would not like to be associated with the massive cheating that took place in order for Richie McCaw to score that try - how he was unbound when the ball wasn't even out i'll never know?!?!?! ... read more

Hello from Queenstown So we're just about getting over our jetlag. Had a fab day yesterday went to the shotover canyon swing and got more than a little terrified!! Wow the adrenaline rush was amazing!! If you're on facebook take a look at the videos on there as it's being a pain to load on here. After that we went into town for a ferg burger and then went night snowboarding in the flood lights on coronet peak. The weather isn't so great today so we're not going snowboarding - think we'll watch the trinations match mmm who to support?? got to be the all blacks just can't bring myself to cheer for australia.
