Sorry France, nothing personal, but I think I would rather be on team rosbif. This trip to London was even better than the first time, and it was already my favorite city in Europe! We accomplished our goal of going back to the British Museum (aka the best museum ever, in my mind). I had my first fish and chips, and actually enjoyed our traditional English breakfasts. One of the best highlights was going to see The Mousetrap. We stumbled upon St. Martin's theatre about five minutes before it started on Saturday night, and managed to still get good tickets. I had always wanted to see it, being an Agatha Christie play, and the longest running play in history. We made it to St James Square, where Dustin saw the Rio Tinto Headquarters. What a wonderful ... read more

We just returned from our little road trip to Barcelona. This was the largest tourist turnout we have seen in a European city since we have been here. It was also the most English speaking we had heard in awhile. We finally made it to the sea, even if it was too cold to enjoy it. We were not as brave as the crazy surfers we saw out there in the water. I really enjoyed the Barri Gothic and the Picasso Museum. The Gaudi works truly make Barcelona a unique city, I can only imagine the contrast of his design with times in which they were constructed. I will definitely have to make a trip back to Barcelona in fifty years for the completion of the Sagrada Familia. That is one fine piece of modern architecture. ... read more

After we got back from Paris, we decided to take a little day trip to Andorra. It was a nice drive through the Pyrenees, and we were able to get some decent pictures. We had booked a "spa" day at Caldea Spa. Unfortunately, we found it to be more like an amusement park. Nevertheless, it was still an interesting experience. Afterwards we helped ourselves to some delicious Andorra KFC! ... read more

Third times a charm

This was officially my third time to Paris, unofficially my fourth. My first time was before I could remember at two years old, so therefore, I do not count it. I must say that this was above and beyond my previous two trips. After my two visits last year, I left having written Paris off as "not that great". This was very disappointing to me as I had eagerly waited twenty years since my trip when I was two to return. So why this time, what made it different? First off I believe living in Toulouse for a month beforehand amply prepared me, meaning I was already in a "French" state of mind, already having been saturated in it for a month. I was also more confident in my French than before. The number of tourists ... read more

We visited Carcassonne last Sunday. I must say that is the best day to sightsee, there are never many people. It was nice, but a little too touristy for us. The town consists of La Cite and Ville Basse. La Cite is a walled medieval fortified town originally built in the 6th century BC by a Gaulish settlement. Today the walls are a result of two thousand and five hundred years of fortifications and occupations by the Gauls, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Franks. In the 19th century the walled town underwent a massive restoration. The Ville Basse; the city that flourishes down below La Cite, was established in the thirteenth century. As I said earlier, La Cite was very very touristy. I read somewhere that two thousand people visit a year, and it is obvious that ... read more

I am now half way through my second week and I am beginning to settle in. I am loving it, but it definitely hasn't been easy trying to cook, clean, shop, live in a new way. My biggest challenge, however, has probably been adjusting to my appliances. My oven is literally a toaster oven. I have managed to still cook dinner every night, although I cannot find many of my usual cooking ingredients. I have spent most my time sight seeing in Toulouse. I have gone to the movies, eaten lunch in the park several times, seen some of the museums, christmas shopped, and I even got a French cell phone. I am enjoying the food very much, and I must say I quite enjoy the way of life here. This past weekend Dustin and I ... read more
