So we finally made out into the villages. As we said early we have run into Hmong out here, so we decided to go visit a village. It turned out to be pretty interesting, in fact one of the villagers mentioned thier daughter will be headed to california to go to school. What a small world. The trek into the mountains was fun, and full of scenary, despite it looked like the trail could and did disappear a few times. I huffed and puffed my way up the mountain and wondered why was I struggling to see Hmong when I could see them at home. ( I cursed a few times in between intakes of precious clean air). In the end it really was worth the time. Lang could communicate with the people there, although thier ... read more

Taking the night train, I learned really quickly, that although there was AC, and considered the upgrade car; the foot clearance was not built for someone my height! This made sleeping rather challenging, since I felt I was in a sardine can squirming around to get the most comfy position I could. Granted I couldn’t stay in a comfy position too long since inevitably some part of me would start to ache or fall asleep. My motion sickness pills helped immensely, since it has the nice effect of making me drowsy. I will say that service is much better on the Thai rails; there was juice and snack service, like on a airplane! Even gave us some nice blankets to use. Amtrak, eat your heart out! Chiang Mai is is the largest and most culturally significant ... read more

So we've been finding out a lot more about the people who visit thailand. Its certainly a unique thing to observe other people's perspective and how open they are. Not sure I approve of it all, but some of the foriengers make assumptions based entirely on stereotypes. This has made for them to make comments that could get you arrested right quick in the states. At the very least it makes for stares which can be disconcerting. Otherwise, met a lot of friendly people, we're recognized enough for some people to greet us at times, near the area where we are based from. Apparently Haven't realized how much walking we've been doing. Feet are killing us, so this afternoon we played cards at a local cafe and kept seeing our travel agent walk by. We're killing ... read more

Bangkok day 1! Realized I forgot my towel and blanket, I'm going to have to buy them when I get a chance. Spent the first night in a okay room, overly price for what it was, but we flew in about 2am so we weren't being really picky. We've moved on to other cheaper fair, not much of a room, but its really just for sleeping in, and it does have AC. We decided for convience sake to kick it in Kao San road, backpackers land. Today was taking it easy and recovering from 24 hours of travel. We were going to visit the Grand Palace, but as it turns out, the new Prime Minsiter is being installed. Thus the palace is closed for the ceremony. We went to a small temple with a really large ... read more

Thats right, back in Taipei, was almost tempted to splurge on those infamous $2 sodas again. But I held fast, after all, its free on the plane. The plane ride was a bit much on the legs, had to be creative with the stretching, definately not made for the vertical elite. LOL. Lang slept good chunks, I drifted in and out, but mostly was awake, I did get to see a lot of movies tho. We attracted attention, every where we went we got stares from people. I guess its not usual to see a Hispanic and Asian chatting it up. ... read more

So it almost seemed like a repeat of the past, couple weeks of fog, and today is the day the OUR plane can't land! Almost a exact repeat of last year's situation that caused so much havoc. This time I was prepared! 1) Lang & I decided to not check in luggage since we're using hiking backpacks, going as oversized carry on. The nice part about that, is that they don't weigh it, and I know for sure its on the plane with me. 2) Made sure our connecting flight out of LAX was far out enough in case we were delayed. We'll we killed time at having breakfast, but dang, they fed us a lot on the trans pacific flights. ... read more

Trying out the printed circuit board fabrication method before actually doing it in SEA. Biggest hurdle was getting the images to transfer to the board plates. I think this is mostly due to brand never used before. But otherwise the acid bath for the etching worked fine. And this method the acid doesnt have to be thrown away (environmental hazard of course) and can be re-used several times.... read more
