Shawne and Jo say... Day 33 Mileage Today: 0 Flats Today: 0 DAY OFF Waking up in a bed, inside a warm home made it difficult to get going. We wanted to just lay there and snuggle for hours. We finally rose to find that Liz had already left to visit her man. We dressed and left the house, on the way to breakfast. Liz told us not to worry about locking the house because it wasn't necessary here. We heard that the locals can eaily identify tourists by noticing people who use their remote control to lock their cars, hearing [View Full Entry]

The coffee was serve yourself out of pump style Thermos containers. We talked with the owners (who were both artists) about the local scene. Jo backed into a cactus while taking the morning camp pictures, and Shawne had to pull a sharp needle out of her leg. We packed up and made it through the gate and onto the road without being noticed. The gas station was open now back in Kent. We backtracked about a mile and ventured inside the store to check what was on the menu for breakfast. Microwaved burritos and [View Full Entry]

The chipsealed pavement made for a rough ride, but there was no traffic. We rode side by side, taking up the whole lane for miles. We noticed a large amount of big rig traffic on I-10. Jo came up with a game...counting how many big rigs would pass by on the interstate without a car going by. Our record was 15. The frontage road ended at [View Full Entry]

A pipe spewed water into a pond, refilling what had been lost to evaoration. So much for the local water shortage. We ventured into a run down building used for restrooms. There were three doors labeled 'Women'. Shawne escorted Jo into one of the women's restrooms, as she often does in case something or someone tries to attack her. Shawne and Jo say... Day 27 Mileage Today: 0 Flats Today: 0 DAY OFF We slept in today...the curtains keeping the sunrise away from our eyes. Tony jumped on the city bus with us and headed for the Downtown Library. It's been a long time since either one of us have ridden on a city bus. After traveling by bicycle for so long, the speed of the bus seemed excessive, and the driver out of control. We zipped down city streets and cornered sharply, causing us to cling to the handrails. Instead of pulling a cord to signal the driver to [View Full Entry]
