Well my friends, I made it to the end of my journey around the world. As places to finish a year long trip go, Rio de Janeiro is just about as good as it gets. It really and truly is one of the most beautiful and scenic cities in the world, with beautiful beaches full of beautiful people, and skyscrapers jostling for position amongst densely forested hills and mountains. When I arrived in Rio the first thing I was confronted with was hot weather. It has been so long since I have felt seriously hot, I had totally forgotten the sensation! Coming out of the air-conditioned airport into 30 degrees heat and blue skies was a pleasant surprise. I got a taxi to my hostel - a place called The Wave a stones throw from Ipanema ... read more

Hola desne San Pedro de Atacama mi amigos!!! These blogs are coming thick and fast now - I only have 11 days before I fly back to London from Rio, and I reckon this will be the second to last blog before I go home. I have no intention of spending too long in a dingy internet cafe when I have Ipanema and Copacabana beach outside waiting for me in Rio! I have spent the last week travelling around of the most unusual landscapes I have ever seen, from Uyuni in Bolivia to San Padro de Atacama here in Chile. It really has been like spending time on another planet, the scenery has been so surreal. I read that NASA used this part of the world when they were testing their probes for their expeditions to ... read more

Hola chicos y chicas I hope this blog finds you in good form. I have certainly been keeping busy since Marnie left me last week, seeing some female wrestling and biking down the world's most dangerous road whilst in La Paz, and visiting the silver mine in Potosi in southern Bolivia. When I came down for breakfast at my hostel in La Paz, the girl at reception told me that they were organising a trip to watch some "Cholita wrestling" that evening if I fancied it. She told me that it was an experience I really should not miss, and with that kind of hard sell, I felt in no position to refuse! That afternoon I jumped into a minivan with some others from my hostel to watch my first live wrestling match! When we ... read more

Hola once again mi amigos Apologies for the gap in correspondence. The Travelblog website had to close down for a week because of a huge server problem - it reopened the other day, but had lost 11 of my most recent blogs in the internet ether (cue slight panic). Luckily I have been able to retrieve most of them via Google - I have lost all my Machu Picchu photos though - and also all of Marnie and I's first week or so in Peru. Could have been worse I guess! Also this blog you are reading was completely wiped, which is really annoying as I was about to publish it when everything crashed. Never mind - my memory is still good, even if Travelblog's server isn't, and I'll try and remember everything that happened for ... read more

Hola once again mi amigos. Would you believe I am still in Cuzco? After getting used to the air up here I don't want to leave! It has been a fun week and a half since my last blog. I managed to meet Marnie okay at Cuzco airport - it was great to see her again. It was quite funny as we starting gassing away in the taxi from the airport to the hostel - after around 5 minutes poor Marnie started gasping for air - the high altitude in Cuzco makes non-stop gossiping very difficult!! We had loads to catch up on though and spent the rest of the afternoon having a good old natter. We took it easy on the first day or so to give Marnie a chance to get used to the ... read more

Hello again everyone Well I finished my last blog worrying about whether I could go on the Inca Trail with diahorrea and nausea after my dogdy night out in Cuzco. Of course, nothing but a major problem would keep me away from doing the trek - I woke up on the morning of the trek at 4.45am feeling slightly better after all my medication. I got all my stuff I needed together in my rucksack and put everything else into storage at the hostal. I took a brisk 10 minute walk to Plaza Regocijo and our 5.45am bus to take us the start of the trek at Piscacucho, also known as Kilometre 82. Everybody on the bus was half asleep, and the hour and a half journey to the start of the trek gave everyone a ... read more

Hello everybody from Cuzco, which in the Inca Language translates at "the belly button of Mother Earth" (apparently!). It's been a manic couple of weeks for yours truly (no surprises there), involving a scenic bus journey through the Andes from Mendoza, a whistle stop return to Santiago, a 5 hour wait at an airport shrouded in fog, a quick visit to Lima, and finally arriving in Cuzco, where the air is so thin, it literally takes your breath away! The bus ride from Mendoza to Santiago was a real experience. I had been told that the mountain pass through the Andes to Santiago had been closed for a number of days due to heavy snow. I was beginning to panic slightly as my bus ride to Santiago was on 24th June, and my flight to Lima ... read more

Hola from Mendoza, the wine capital of Argentina! I've had a top week out here, with so much to see and do - Mendoza is awesome! The town itself is very pleasant, with giant sycamore trees lining the wide avenues, lots of nice plazas and a brilliant 420 hectare park. There are dozens of wineries in the surrounding area, and with it's close proximity to The Andes, day trips to the mountains and loads of outdoor pursuits are easy peasy. It was nice to arrive here suitably recovered from that nasty cold I had in Cordoba. I really wanted to make up for lost time in terms of getting out and doing things, so when I arrived at my hostel (nice place out of town called Chimbas), I immediately organised loads of trips through Claudio, the ... read more

Hola once again mi amigos! After a week in Cordoba I thought I would try and stay on top on my Travelblog for once and not wait two or three weeks to inundate you with too much information. Truth is my partying in Buenos Aires finally caught up with me and I've been struck down down with a heavy cold. Bound to happen eventually I guess - at least I wasn't in the middle of a six day trek! So your intrepid traveller has been dosed up with yucky medicine, Nuforen and the Argentine equivelant of Lemsip for a couple of days - tucked up in bed watching a very fuzzy CNN channel, dodgy Knight Rider repeats, and the French Open from Roland Garros! I must admit though, I think I needed a rest. The next ... read more

Hola from Buenos Aires everyone. What a fun city this is - the past two weeks have zoomed by since I arrived here from Ushuaia. I've just said goodbye to my old mate Terry, who came over to join me for 10 days from London. We squeezed in a lot in that time, including a three day jaunt to Iguazu Falls, but more on that later. It was good to see a familiar face. My first night in Buenos Aires (before Terry arrived) was quite eventful. I was on a 7.30pm flight on Saturday evening from Ushuaia that got me into BA for 12.00am. I had an email earlier from my Torres Del Paine buddies, Wayne and Danny saying that Saturday was their last night in BA before heading for Peru, and that we had to ... read more
