Spain: final leg
Spain: final leg
beween Tarifa and Algecirus: start of the final climb with wind wind wind and more wind
] Well what'dya know old Korn dog is gonna let me write a new blog.. here's hoping it doesn't get lost in another server failure. Bugger about that. So after hitching over the Pirennesnes and doing a little sunbathing in Barcelona we caught an overnight train to Seville where we bought some bikes and began to make good on our planned cycle adventure. Finding bikes in Seville turned out to be a little less straight forward than we had hoped mind. First out hostel room flooded and started raining water down onto the people in the street'-Who didn't mind I'd say [View Full Entry]

Ola; welcome to Spain. I thought that this blog had died a horrible death so we started making a new one- then thanks to Matt for recovering most of it! Hopefully travelblog will hold it together this time as I'm not really in the mood to look for a new server. Our time in Barcelona feels like centuries ago, like back in the days when it was Muslim run, but here we go: ] So after our hitchhiking trip through southern France, we decided to give Spain a shot and hitch to Barcelona. Our mate back in Le Fosset, who we'd [View Full Entry]

This blog has suddenly become a joint blog with my good old mate Dan. We are friends from way back. We jointly decided that there would be nothing better in the world to do than bike through the Sahara in the northern summer. So here we are getting closer. We´ll have turns about at writing up the blog, and I´m sure that Dan can spell better than me. ] Five days in Paris soon turned into three days in Lyon, again through couchsurfing. I finally met up with Dan, and we're now travelling together through wild southern France and into [View Full Entry]

Paris certainly has not disappointed. With one rainy day, with the other three sunny, no such complaints. I booked a last minute journey on the high-speed TCV train from Brussels so that meant €s, €s and more €s - 76 of them in fact! But with a hangover firmly in charge, my backpack weighing a tone and Brussels experiencing high 20s temps, I was in no mood to run around Brussels trying to find a cheaper way to get to Paris. And then again in 2hrs and at around 260km/h, I was in Paris; so who could complain? Upon arrival [View Full Entry]

As I headed along the Dutch coastline towards the highly militarised border with Belgium, my days in the Netherlands had come to an end. I left the Netherlands to it as I zoooooooooooooomed into the picturesque city of Brugge in northwest Flemish country to meet up with an 1pm SHARP/ON THE DOT appointment with Jean Genie- sorry in-joke there with that one. On the exciting journey in to the city, one of my sports shoes had the decency to fall out of my bag to find its place somewhere on the road a few ks back. Luckily a Flemish family [View Full Entry]

Part 4 of 4 in the Netherlands. I've been in this country for 6 weeks and was only in southeast Asia for 5- geographically that makes very little sense. I'm still on the bike, I rode from Utrecht to Den Haag. During my 5 hour ordeal it poured with rain about 10 times. I took shelter in all sorts of places from people's front porches, company workshops and shops to under trees, but I got there eventually . I took a little detour through the city of Leiden where I had a bit of a look around and recall purchasing [View Full Entry]

Rotterdam, on the old Mass

Well here I am again. This time in the fantastic city of Utrecht in Utrecht province in the Netherlands. I left Zwolle the other week and again rode my bicycle, for a bit longer this time, to Utrecht. The clouds looked threatening all morning, and it rained a bit but then I thought: plastic bags, they'll save me. After a few we splashes from the sky, the sun came out and I had a merry time. I rode across all different sorts of terrain, even some bits were hillyish, and through all sorts of different towns and communities- including a [View Full Entry]

Ah the camera has made a comeback. Welcome back I said. I'm still not up to a heck of a lot. I ran the half-marathon in Leeuwarden the other week where I finished third so was OK for a bit. However upon receiving my prize they called my name out as Kees Kuiper (or something). I mean, I'm in the Netherlands- I don't have to spell my name out or correct people a billion times a day- so I expect a bit bit better from the Leeuwarden marathon. But on the otherhand, Kuiper does sound pretty good. Now I'm in [View Full Entry]

Well it's been a while since my last update. I'm well aware of that. I've been in the Netherlands for about two and a half weeks and it's all been a bit of a family affair - obviously a big change from my previous expeditions, but it's all good. I'm not actually in Sexbierum (as above), but I just wanted to point out that it's a great great name for a town and if I was a town, I'd be pretty happy with such a name. Also, it's not too far from my current location. Well anyway, it's been pretty [View Full Entry]

Part two of my tour: deutschland. I arrived in Bankfurt (otherwise known as Main-hattan), just the other day. I unfortunately had to fly over London Heathrow and endure their stringent security measures at 7 in the morning after a 12 hour flight- not cool. Welcome to London? well no, luckily I was in transit. I had to remove my shoes on three occasions!- well actually two if you don't count me going to the wrong terminal. Prehaps a new foreign policy approach may save people having to remove their shoes? I should have brought my power point. They just aren't [View Full Entry]
