Hello My Dear!!!
I've been enjoying reading all about your trip but am very glad to hear you are coming home. I hope if you aren't too burned out, you come in for a visit soon. Everyone misses you very much here. I can hear Mark right now chuckling while he's reading your blog. Anyway, we are in the process of planning a choir practice so I hope you can make it. I'll let you know when the date is confirmed...probably January and I'm hoping it's Karaoke. We miss your singing. You have such a lovely voice. The office hasn't been the same without you. Linda XOXO

character building
Hi Denise Thanks for the blog update. This has been quite a character building trip!! Lots of extremes, starting with the extreme poverty you witnessed in the Lenana slum, to the extreme beauty of the African wilderness, the extreme heat, and the extreme thrills, etc, etc etc. I'm sure that in some way this trip will have changed you, and that you will see the world from a different perspective. My perspective is still that of a parent. Your Mother and I are very proud of the investment you have made in yourself, by setting this goal and saving the money for your African experience. We have been surprised (sometimes shocked) to learn of your adventures, and of course we are very anxious for your return to Canada. Denise - you had lot's of character before, but now you have built upon that even more! We are really looking forward to seeing you soon - Love Dad

Scary!
Jumping from a plane, reckless driving in the sandunes of the cape, and going in a shark cage... that is nothing! We have to come into work 5 days a week and listen to Joe Arsenault NOW THAT IS FRIGHTNING!!!!!!!! It must be also scary that you are coming home soon, but we all miss you. Mark has been trying to find you in Google Earth without much success. Hope to see you soon. P.S. Just as an update, was speaking with Angelina the other day and baby is doing fine. PPS. Say Hi to Brittney (Blush) sorry to hear about her mishap: be sure to tell her about your young friend Dennis. ( and GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!) See you soon Denise. Deno.

German Christmas in Africa
Well this is definitely a first! Being in Canadian, in a German town, on the continent of Africa, in the country of Naimbia, located near the South Pole, celebrating a holiday that is based on a major historic event that ocurred in the middle east, which has evolved to have a North Pole association - wow! We are thinking of you, and saving your gifts, plus leaving the tree up until you get home. Merry Christmas to you and Brittany! We will revive Christmas celebrations when you get home. Love Dad and Mom

no HO
Denise ain't a HO Pia!!!!! Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas! Just an update on our office jungle. Lots and lots of CHOCOLATE and cookies every day!(Lawyers trying to butter us up). You picked a fine time to go to Africa. Your 1:30 "I feel like some chocolate" would be easily gratified this time of year. Swakopmund... that was a song by the Guess Who wasn't it? 'Running Back to Swakopmund'. Mark wishes you a Merry Christmas (He told us yesterday he is going Christmas shopping the afternoon of the 24th). From all of us, especially ME have a VERY Merry Christmas Denise! Take care.

Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday, Neicee!!! I remember 23 years ago when my little Neicee came into this world. Probably cause she was missing the presents at the family Christmas we were having at the time. Your Uncle Mark was sooooo glad you weren't born in his bathroom. Anyhow, hope you have a wonderful day and that the crew there do something special to mark the day. Looking forward to seeing you soon. I am starting to count the "sleeps until Neicee comes home". Love Momma

sore foot and Rhino"s
Dearest Denise I did not know that "Danger" was your middle name! While I am pleased to hear of your exhilerating experiences in the wilds of Africa. I would like to point out, that being in close proximity of wild Rhino's while enduring the discomfort of an infected foot is not the best combination from a safety perspective. While I do believe that adrenalin would allow you over-ride the pain in the event of a quick exit being required, I'm glad it wasn't. I hear they have some beautiful flowers over there. Isn't there a botanical garden you could be spending some time at??? Love Dad

Happy Birthday
Hi Denise, Just wanted to check in and say Hi from all the Wilkers (and Waltons)! We really missed you yesterday at the Wilker Christmas. Mom let me know that your birthday was coming up (she's so good about that sort of stuff), and she asked me to send you a note wishing you a Happy Birthday from all of us. Hope you're staying safe and your foot is getting better. Sounds like you're having the adventure of a lifetime. You'll be able to write a book about it when you get home! Take care of yourself and have a great birthday and a wonderful Christmas. Love, Lori (and the rest of our clan)

2 at a time
Hi Denise I was working on a comment, took a break came back, and it was gone. So if you have 2 from me that's why. I was wondering if you had been on the site, as it stated "last updated" on Nov 30th, with comments from Nov 25th accepted and yet no new entry. It was nice to read 2 at a time this morning. Sounds like you are getting a chance to get up close with lions. I can just picture my beautiful Hakunna conversing with the big cats. I just hope you and Matatta spend your time with them AFTER they have eaten not before. So how is that foot of yours? Did the swelling from the bug bite resolve? And how did the "night encounter" go? Did you get to see a kill, or was the lion in training given "smelly cow" instead to eat? Not too much new back here. The new kitchen sink is being hooked up this morning. We had to go 2 days without one, as the glue must set. Ev's hockey game went into overtime last night so that was good, however they lost, so that was not so good. Brodie had a jaunt in the dog park this morning so she is having a good day. We did wake up to a snow covered world yesterday, however it warmed up and the snow is all gone. Don't worry, I'm sure there will be some cold weather for you by the time you get home. Bye for now Love Dad I hope

Hi Yeah
What an experience! Too bad your camera quit. Haven't heard how your Dad got along in Australia. We loved it there. Hope to hear about it on Dec. 12th. I'm sure you will be the topic of conversation though. So take care and Love ya

Shistosomaisis
Hey Neece! I'm back from "down under" and really glad to get caught up on your blogs. The comment title is the name of the fresh water parasite that they were concerned about when you showered with lake Malawi water. I have heard of it before and it's quite common. It is not however, only a concern in Malawi. The medication is apparently both safe and effective - so take it. Did the Amoxicillin work okay for your cold? I didn't read anymore about the cough and stuffed up head, so I figured it must have helped. The weather is pretty mild back here, no ice on the bay. We are going to try to co-ordinate another call, hopefully you can get cell coverage. Evan plays hockey tonight and Lisa is home for the weekend, hopefully we can connect by phone when everyone is here. Bye for now - Love Dad

Safari on!
I have seen the Canadian ballet at the Zanzibar Pia! 2 for one happy hours (not drinks!) ... but that is not my purpose here. Sounds like all is well for you. You may or may not of heard about Sallinger with the H1N1 and his recovery and subsequent rumour of his retiring. We got him a Minnesota Viking football helmet autographed by 1970's Purple People Eater defensive line. I think his reaction will be GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. We have our office Pot Luck next Tuesday. Tons of food (too many dead animals for you). Usually a good time had by all with a few belt loops loosened. Don't tell Mark about the Bungee! As always... be careful. P.S. I spent two weeks in Lilongwe one night!

Hi Hon I'll be anxious to hear about the dress-up night - sounds like a hoot. Tell us more about the scenery and especially the people as you travel from country to country. You know I love hearing about the children. Glad you guys didn't venture out for that swim in rough water - sounds a little too dangerous. Remember my reoccurring advice to "STAY SAFE"! LOVE Momma

Mango Rice Salad!!!mmm
Den, Not a day goes by that i do not think of you and britt. And every blog i read from you makes my hair spike and sends goosebumps all over. I can only imagine how much more intense it is for you both being there on the ground. By the way, I am only reading your Blogs, cause i cant find Brits? Im technologically impaired! The sarengeti, beaches, safaris, and good folk; in my head i have constructed an image of how that all must look and feel like, so reading your blogs takes me a little into your world, and the great journeys you must be encountering every day. I would love to get political with you, and pose questions about the social conditions; political corruption; warfare; military conflicts; rising pandemics and more important matters, so many questions, but i think in order for you to engage in these conversations you will need to come home, and discuss them in a more relaxed setting. Im sure there is so much for you to digest right now from what you are seeing and hearing, that you will only really feel the weight and power of your experience when you leave. Give britt a great BIG kiss for me, and one for u thanks for keeping me inspired and moved everyday :) love u guys salsxoxo

Hey Denise This is good stuff. You must be sooo excited!!!! We just read Britt's updated blog and have some questions. Were you able to get your stuff dried out after the rain came in your tent? Bet you won't forget that flap after that! And, did a hawk's wing really hit you in the head? You must have been hysterical. I know I would have been. Really missed you at the family Christmas on Sat. Lexi liked the picture of you and the cheetah. Dad scanned and sent you her poem to you. Keep your distance from those lions, eh. As always, stay safe. Love Mom and Dad

Helloooooo
Denise: Hey sorry about the early morning phone call. Just had to call! Sounds like camping suits you and Brittney just fine. Loved all the pics of you and the kids in Kenya. sounds like a great idea sponsoring a child. I am sure the snakes will stay away! Everyone is fine here- really warm weather this week- up to 19 degrees in a few parts of Ontario. Doesn't feel like November at all. It was nice talking to Brittney the other day- you sounded really sleepy- sounds like you have not had many good nite sleeps- sorry about that. enjoy your excursions and keep up posted. Joan
