Hello again!!

It has been a very action packed few days since the last blog entry.

The night encounter didn go so well...because of all of the heavy rains, we spent basically 2 hours getting stuck in the mud and trying to get the vechicles out and MAYBE an hour of watching the lions stalk and hunt. They didn even come close to catching anything, so that was a little disappointing...

We left Antelope park 2 days later and went to Bulawayo. This place was really cool. Brittney and I decided to treat ourselves to a little upgrade ($4 a night to sleep inside, in a bed rather than in a tent!) The first day we got there in the after noon and just hung out. The next day was absolutely amazing!
We did a "rhino trek" which was one of the coolest things Ive ever done! We had 7 of us in a safari vehicle (plus our guide, Bryan) and we went to Mtombo National Park looking for Rhino. We found 2 right off the bat and got out of the truck and started walking towards them, which made me a little nervous!
We ended up getting within like 20 meters of 2 massive rhino! It was honestly insane!!! They were so cool...

We found three others not long after them, a momma, a baby and a male who Bryan said was trying to mate with the female. This encounter was even better! We got out and got really close, and as we were standing there the female and baby started to walk towards us...they were SO CLOSE! The male followed, and the female and the male had a little fight...not even 10 meters away from us!! We had to crouch down and everything to show them that they didn need to be threatened...it was so scary though!

The Rhino trek was a full day event. We ate lunch by a beautiful lake with hippos in it, and went to a couple of look-out points as well. We never got to see a black rhino, but did see plenty of white rhino.

The next day we left really early from Bulawayo to get to Vic Falls in good time. We were on the road by 6 am, and were in Vic Falls by 1ish. We had a truck party on the way... which was pretty fun.

This place is wicked! We have been here 3 days now...and yesterday spent the entire day white water rafting on "The Mighty Zambezi" and today Brittney and I did a tandem gorge swing, and then we both went bungee jumping of the bridge that runs over the Zambezi!! It has been an action packed couple of days, and I am very happy to report I survived it all!!!
The white water rafting was unbelievable. There were 3 or 4 "class 5" rapids, which were so crazy! Our boat was the only one to never get flipped! Although I did get thrown out of the boat at one point which was really scary because it was right in the middle of the rapid and I couldn get any air because the waves just kept coming! I literally had no control and just had to wait until the water let me up to breathe, so that was pretty intense!

The gorge swing today was really fun as well. It was good to do with Brittney, especially to build up to the bungee jump! I bought the DVD of my bungee jump, which makes me look like a complete baby because I almost chickened out at the last minute...but I still wanted the DVD just so that I never have to do it again!

We are in Vic Falls for another 2 nights, however all of my adreneline activities are finished!

My foot has gotten really awful and painful! I am now taking anti-biotics (YET AGAIN) because my right foot - with the spider bite or whatever it was on the top of my foot has become infected. The bite itself is pretty gross, but what scares me even more is that my entire foot is swollen and really really in pain. I was really scared the first night I realized it was infected, but Annika (the Aussie nurse on the trip) has been taking care of it. We clean it each night with saline and then she treats it with an antiseptic cream and cover it up.
I don think the rafting yesterday was too good for it...but I do think the antibiotics seem to be helping.

Other than that everything is good. We are loosing 3 people off the truck tomorrow night, and getting a new 4. Weve already met the new guys and they seem pretty fun as well. Vic Falls is definitely a party place!

It is officially 1 month today and I will be home!!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again!!

Happy Birthday
Hi Denise, Just wanted to check in and say Hi from all the Wilkers (and Waltons)! We really missed you yesterday at the Wilker Christmas. Mom let me know that your birthday was coming up (she's so good about that sort of stuff), and she asked me to send you a note wishing you a Happy Birthday from all of us. Hope you're staying safe and your foot is getting better. Sounds like you're having the adventure of a lifetime. You'll be able to write a book about it when you get home! Take care of yourself and have a great birthday and a wonderful Christmas. Love, Lori (and the rest of our clan)

sore foot and Rhino"s
Dearest Denise I did not know that "Danger" was your middle name! While I am pleased to hear of your exhilerating experiences in the wilds of Africa. I would like to point out, that being in close proximity of wild Rhino's while enduring the discomfort of an infected foot is not the best combination from a safety perspective. While I do believe that adrenalin would allow you over-ride the pain in the event of a quick exit being required, I'm glad it wasn't. I hear they have some beautiful flowers over there. Isn't there a botanical garden you could be spending some time at??? Love Dad

Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday, Neicee!!! I remember 23 years ago when my little Neicee came into this world. Probably cause she was missing the presents at the family Christmas we were having at the time. Your Uncle Mark was sooooo glad you weren't born in his bathroom. Anyhow, hope you have a wonderful day and that the crew there do something special to mark the day. Looking forward to seeing you soon. I am starting to count the "sleeps until Neicee comes home". Love Momma

Hello My Dear!!!
I've been enjoying reading all about your trip but am very glad to hear you are coming home. I hope if you aren't too burned out, you come in for a visit soon. Everyone misses you very much here. I can hear Mark right now chuckling while he's reading your blog. Anyway, we are in the process of planning a choir practice so I hope you can make it. I'll let you know when the date is confirmed...probably January and I'm hoping it's Karaoke. We miss your singing. You have such a lovely voice. The office hasn't been the same without you. Linda XOXO
