Day 37 Monday 4th May The farter also turned out to be a snorer, so another restless night... In our best effort to date, we were up and off by 7.30am. Ben and Lauren stopped for a coffee while Dav and I charged on, climbing back up over 1,000m and up amongst the mist. It was really cool being in the clouds, especially as the windmills were just off to our right and while we couldn’t see them through the mist, all we could hear was the eerie swooshing sound as they went round and round. Ben and Lauren caught [View Full Entry]

Day 38 Tuesday 5th May The morning didn’t start so well for Davin, Lauren and I... We were slightly ahead of Ben and so when the Camino took us around a building, we thought it would be hilarious to double back around to scare Ben as he walked past. So we waited there, crouched behind a wall, suppressing giggles and waiting patiently for Ben to walk into the trap. After a few minutes, and then another few minutes, Dav happened to look over to see Ben walking along the road in another direction. Turns out that all three of us [View Full Entry]

Day 26 Thursday 23rd April We woke to a very foggy morning, making the early walk very spectacular. After breakfast we hit the fork in the road where the caminos slpit into the Coastal and Primitivo, with the 5 of us heading left on the Primitivo, and Jose, a Spanish pilgrim we met the night before, being the solo traveller on the right Coastal route. Along the way, as a classic example of the generosity of the Spanish people we have met so far, Ben, who was walking sligthly behind the rest of us, was ushered over to have a [View Full Entry]

Day 27 Friday 24th April Up and out of the albergue early, we walked 10km into Pola de Siero where we stopped for some brerakfast, and so Dav could perform some surgery on his feet. He keeps getting blisters on the soles of his feet which are obviously very painful as he canīt really take the pressure of them when walking, plus they are really deep and extrememly hard to get to to drain with the needle and thread method. The walk today was not very scenic and mostly on roads so it was quite a tough day, especially for [View Full Entry]

Day 28 Saturday 25th April Today was a semi-rest day for us with no walking until the late afternoon. The morning was spent doing some chores, with my main goal for the day to buy a pair of new shoes. My 20 pound joggers are just not cutting it and so we have decided to do what we should have done earlier and buy some proper decent walking shoes. I was very successful, finding a great pair of Salomon shoes in one of the first stores I tried. On further discussion, we also decided to get a new pair for [View Full Entry]

Day 25 Wednesday 22nd April Our fantastic record on track, we were up and out of the albergue by 8am. We walked the first 4km through crazy muddy tracks, stopping to have some breakfast in Colunga. Elisabeth also caught up with us there, and she continued to walk with us for the remainder of the day, which was filled with muddy bushbashing, and very muddy shoes at the end of the day as a reminder. The albergue at Sebrayo was perhaps the most run-down we had experienced so far, but still provided us with a warm shower, a bed and [View Full Entry]

Day 24 Tuesday 21st April After a well-deserved sleep in until 9am, we made the short walk into Ribadiesella for breakfast. The weather was once again spectacular with sunny skies and warm temperatues. We stopped at a great paddock with lovely ocean views for lunch, then on again to join the beach, where Dav and Ben decided to have a dip in the freezing waters. The brave chaps made it in, but were also pretty quick at getting out again not surprisingly! (not that I can say much as I watched from the shore wrapped up in a jumper..) It [View Full Entry]

Day 23 Monday 20th April We were up and off early as we werenīt too keen on an early morning wake-up by an angry farmer... The walk into Llames took a little longer than expected as we accidently took a sligthly longer path (an extra 2km or so) that wrapped around a golf course... sounds a bit suspicious doesnīt it..! However, it did offer spectacular views of the ocean and we did eventually make it into town where we were finally able to satisfy our starving bellies. Past Llames we passed through a town called Poo, so the extreme [View Full Entry]

Day 22 Sunday 19th April Up and out of the hostel by 8am... we are getting good at the early starts! We walked throught town and then down a muddy hill to join up with the highway down the bottom. I got a surprise call from Dad and Dawn with was lovely - waas quite weird to imagine them sitting in the shed at home and here I was trapsing through muddy bushland in the middle of Spain! The day was really beautiful, with some lovely coastal views. We stopped for lunch in a field, lazily not moving for a [View Full Entry]

Day 21 Saturday 18th April With the knee brace, Dav was feeling a lot better so the plan this day was for Dav to catch a bus to Unquera, and then for all of us to walk the last 3km to our destination for the night in Colombres. This would mean that he could get a feel for how his knee was managing, without having to tackle a 25km day straight away. The walk out of San Vincente was really nice, through lots of green fields and baby animals. Our first animal encounter of the day was being able to [View Full Entry]
