One thing I’ve forgotten to tell you about: Sunday night three buses pulled in, full of high school students. They had a band camp from Monday through Thursday. There’s a curling rink~~which apparently is a sport here, not something you do to your hair (hi, Pastor Dave!) about a block from here, and that’s where the band practices were, although many times they practiced in the streets. We went down every afternoon to watch them…they’re preparing for the Calgary Stampeded parade, as well as several marching band competitions. On Monday when I watched them ( [View Full Entry]

Happy 4th!! North America » Canada » Alberta
Happy 4th of July! It feels very strange to not have the red, white and blue decorations everywhere, and to not be in Lambert, Montana. I have thought of their parade, and know that it’s as fun this year as every year, and my mouth waters at the thought of their bbq lunch! We went to Troschu~~a small town about 20 minutes from here. They have a gorgeous arboretum, and all of us took sandwiches and ate dinner there. There wasn’t anyone else there, so we ate on the deck, surrounded by the incredible flowers and birds and butterflies…and very few [View Full Entry]

First off, I have to let you know we’re having tiny problems with our WIFI signal. Always before we could get it from our motor home, which was very convienent, but the last few days it’s too weak to run anything (can you say S L O W…..) so we have to move the laptop to another building, and hope for a stronger signal there. Inconvientent. I’m hoping when the tech people get back from holiday (pronounced with a long o) they’ll get it running again. Please hope with me! Also, this website is not accepting my pictures, which is [View Full Entry]

Drumheller North America » Canada » Alberta
Today was tour day for RVICS. We went to Drumheller (an hour south east of Three Hills) where we walked across a very looooong swinging bridge made of metal grate, so you could see through it to the river. (Red Deer River~~see how well you’re doing with your geography?!) Then we saw the World’s Largest Dinosaur (even bigger than the cow in New Salem, ND!) There are lots of dinosaur fossils around that area, as well as other fossils. It was interesting, but we have seen dinosaur activity around Montana. Touring is not a requirement, but I can't imagine why [View Full Entry]

It looks like we're thinking, doesn't it?!

We got off work early today because the premier (think: governor) is coming. The guys had to get the auditorium cleaned up, and we sure can’t work if they’re not! He’s coming for graduation (more commonly known as grad up here...grad is not the person, but the ceremony), but also to check up on some grant requests. It’s interesting to see all the preparations that are made for this. Bob and I went golfing this afternoon, and then drove to Red Deer to look around. [View Full Entry]

Country view.

Tonight we went to a small Bible camp about 45 minutes from here (not unlike the one in Lambert.) The couple that runs it works with RVICS in the winter. We had a hotdog roast, and then toured the camp….they have farm animals, as well as miniature horses and goats. The mini goats had babies about a month old, and they were smaller than the barn cats! They played around like baby lambs, but they’re colored, and I can’t even explain how cute they were! Then we hiked to a point overlooking the Red Deer River that had a breathtaking [View Full Entry]

Give us a view...
Not the green green grass of home,
Lookout point.

The sun is shining today, with the weather guesser saying it may happen again tomorrow! Lawnmowers are going all over town. There are big mosquitoes up here, so I’m guessing they like the cool weather. They’re BIG. The men started on their carpentry project today…they’re expandinging the stage in the auditorium, as well as making it handicap accessible. They had to remove several rows of seats to make the extra room, and when I asked Bob what they’re going to do with the seats, he said he doesn’t know~~he doesn’t need to know! We’re not [View Full Entry]

Our first work day! We began with group devotionals, and then the women went to the library, and the men went to run big, covered lawn mowers. Bob thought it was a great time, and at noon he said it was going to be very hard to stop working at 3:30. They’ve had lots of rain here too, and between all the grass they have to mow, and a shortage of workers and non-raining hours, the grass is out of control. As it turned out, the men stopped mowing at 2:00 because of the downpour, as well as thunder and [View Full Entry]

We're HERE!! North America » Canada » Alberta
We got to Three Hills, Alberta this afternoon. The other two couples are already here, and are very welcoming. They’ve been with RVICS for several years, so they’re able to answer our questions about RVICS, as well as questions about the motor home. We will be working at Prairie Bible Institute…a high school as well as a two year college. The college kids have gone home, and the high school will be dismissed the end of next week. (The elementary kids are still in school in Canada too!) The women will be working in the library, and the men will [View Full Entry]

Calgary North America » Canada » Alberta » Calgary
We left Cardston this morning, and I just want to tell a bit about going through Calgary. Calgary is a LARGE city, and traveling through it in a motor home doesn’t make it any smaller. I think the Calgary Stampeded starts this weekend, and just like in the states, they’re doing a lot of road construction right now: Lots of cars traveling fast + miles and miles to get through this huge city + road construction = the scariest time we’ve had so far. What we learned is that it’s worth the time to stop before you enter the city [View Full Entry]
