An Indian Army war veteran of 1965 & 1971Indo-Pak wars, Col mani Gahatraj, born and schooled in Kalimpong, Darjeeling Hills, is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington with Masters in Defence & Strategic Studies. Fatally wounded in the Battle of Chamb, Indo Pak War 1971, he is a Bronze Medalist from Army Cadet College and recipient of Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Medal. After 35 years of eventful military service across the Indian landscape, the veteran was a security advisor in the State Bank of India and a multinational corporation in Afghanistan.
During the last 10 years, he follows his passion of random travelling & writing travelogues.
Colonel's first travel book “Wandering in the Himalayan Foothills & Beyond” was published in 2015. The second publication was a co-authored military history coffee table book, “The Indomitable Rhino Warriors of India’s North East-History of the Assam Regiment” while “Wandering in the Mist of the East” published in 2019, is his second travel book. He regularly contributes travelogues to Ghumakkar.com, an online travel magazine based in India as also articles on contemporary issues in Spot Nepal, Kathmandu.
